Busted again: Fox caught using ‘militant Nazi’ collaborator as expert on Swedish violence

Fox Business Network reportedly used a neo-Nazi collaborator to bolster President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Sweden was experiencing an uptick in violence due to Muslim immigrants.

Just days after Fox News host Bill O’Reilly admitted that his show falsely billed Nils Bildt as a Swedish national security adviser, the Swedish magazine Expo has uncovered a guest on the Fox Business Network who may be even more troubling.

On Feb. 21, Fox Business host Cheryl Casone asked “Swedish columnist Ingrid Carlqvist” to push back on the president’s critics without mentioning her guest’s right-wing extremist views or ties to the Swedish neo-Nazi movement, according to Expo.

“What the viewers are never told is that Ingrid Carlqvist has been a central player in the anti-Muslim counter-jihad movement,” the magazine reports on Thursday. “Nor are the viewers made aware that she recently accused ‘representatives of the ethnic group of Jews’ in Sweden of being behind Sweden’s cultural diversity, a conspiracy theory that Swedish nazis have long promoted.”

In recent years, Ingrid Carlqvist has moved closer to the openly racist, white supremacist milieu in Sweden. She recently declared her willingness to collaborate with the Nordic Resistance Movement, a militant nazi group.

Last year she was one of the speakers at Stockholm’s annual fascist conference “Identitarian Ideas”. She also attended this year’s conference, where a new alliance between the organizers and the American Alt-Right movement and Richard Spencer of the National Policy Institute was announced. Spencer gained international notoriety after giving a speech in praise of Donald Trump in which he yelled “Hail Trump!”, while large sections of the audience stretched out their right arms in a Hitler salute

All it takes is one brave soul to stand up against hate.

An image going viral around the world shows 42-year-old Tess Asplund standing defiant, with a fist raised, against hundreds of neo-Nazis marching through the streets of Borlänge, Sweden, on Sunday.

“It was an impulse. I was so angry, I just went out into the street,” Asplund told the Guardian. “I was thinking: ‘hell no, they can’t march here!’ I had this adrenaline. No Nazi is going to march here, it’s not okay.”

The paper reported that Asplund stands just 5’2” and weighs about 110 pounds — yet she stood in the path of some 300 marching neo-Nazis, one of whom shoved her out of the way.

She’s being praised across social media for her courage.

Sweden school attack: police treat killing of pupil and teacher as racist hate crime

Suspect chose his victims at Kronan school in Trollhättan based on the colour of their skin, say police

The suspect in the double murder in a school in Sweden on Thursday picked out his victims by their skin colour, according to video evidence seen by police.

“He chose dark skinned people, not white. We are convinced it was a hate crime with a racist perspective,” said Niclas Hallgren, the chief of police in Trollhättan.

“He was dressed in a way that suggested a racist background [and] video at the scene showed he acted in a military fashion. His actions and the way he looked draws the mind to the Nazis,” Hallgren told journalists.

The victims were a 15-year-old male pupil and a teacher, both of whom died of stab wounds. A 14-year-old boy and a 41-year-old teacher remain in hospital in critical condition. The suspect, who was armed with a large knife and a sword, was shot dead by police.

Police declined to name the suspect, saying only that he was 21 years old and local to the area. Media reports have named him as Anton Lundin Pettersson.

A handwritten letter was found during a search of the suspect’s apartment – “a sort of suicide note” – which showed he had planned the attack and said he expected it would be his final act.

Authorities were looking at his activity on internet forums, but could find no evidence of links to far-right organisations, or evidence of accomplices. He had no apparent links to Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian far-right terrorist who killed 69 people on Utøya island in Norway in 2011.

Police would not say if the suspect said anything to them after he was shot and before he died in hospital several hours later.

Kronan school in Trollhättan, an industrial city near Gothenburg, has a high proportion of pupils with an immigrant background.
