Women of Color Tell White Sisters – “What took you so long on Twitter!”

WOMEN OF COLOR HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT TWITTER LONG BEFORE WHITE WOMEN

Thousands of women across Twitter boycotted the platform in solidarity with actress Rose McGowan on Friday, leaving many women of color with a troubling question: What took so long?

#WomenBoycottTwitter began trending Thursday night, when Twitter temporarily suspended McGowan’s account amid a string of tweets from the actress speaking out against her alleged rapist, Harvey Weinstein, and actor Ben Affleck, whom she told to “fuck off.” McGowan and other women argued the platform had been silencing a survivor of alleged sexual assault — so on Friday, women said they would abstain from Twitter.

But others, mostly women of color, asked where those women had been when Jemele Hill was suspended from ESPN for her tweets about President Donald Trump, or when alt-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos sicced his internet trolls on Leslie Jones.

“Calling white women allies to recognize conflict of #WomenBoycottTwitter for women of color who haven’t received support on similar issues,” director Ava DuVernay tweeted Thursday night.

“What happened with Rose McGowan being suspended was wrong,” writer and sociologist Eve Ewing added. “Unequivocally wrong. But if that’s what activated your awareness, I don’t especially trust you.”

Calling white women allies to recognize conflict of  for women of color who haven’t received support on similar issues.

Some women of color on the platform took advantage of an alternative to #WomenBoycottTwitter, using the hashtag #AmplifyWomen to uplift women and give their stories of sexual assault and trauma broader reach.

“As a queer WoC and a survivor of sexual assault, you’re not gonna shut me up,” wrote one Twitter user who used the hashtag. “You’re not gonna shut any of us up.”

Twitter did eventually restore McGowan’s account midday Thursday. The company claimed that it is “proud to empower and support the voices on our platform, especially those that speak truth to power.”

In the meantime, Twitter remains under fire for not suspending the account of President Donald Trump amid charges that he has violated the social media’s rules with his demeaning and insulting tweets.

Most recently, the president retweeted a GIF of him firing a golf ball at former rival Hillary Clinton, which some said advocated violence, a Twitter no-no.

Alabama Chief Justice Learns 11th Commandment

Thou shall not screw with the law of the land!

This guy has been trying to jam his religion down everyone’s throat since he was selected to office. Long past time for him to go.

Anti-Gay Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore Suspended for Gross Judicial Misconduct

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended without pay from the state supreme court on Friday—a suspension that will last through the remainder of his term, which ends in 2018. The Alabama Judicial Inquiry Committee found that Moore violated ethics laws and judicial canons by repeatedly attempting to block same-sex marriage in Alabama long after the federal judiciary required it.

Moore’s misconduct regarding same-sex marriage litigation was sweeping and extensive. In January of 2015, a federal judge invalidated the state’s same-sex marriage ban. Moore promptly wrote letters to probate judges insisting that they remained legally prohibited from marrying gay people—in effect, demanding that they violate a federal court order. In May of that year, the judge explicitly held that probate judges must issue marriage licenses to all couples, same-sex or opposite-sex. The next month, the Supreme Court held that same-sex marriage bans violate the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.

Yet in January of 2016, Moore issued yet another letter ordering probate judges to stop issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Then, in March, Moore penned a bizarre opinion calling the Supreme Court’s decision “immoral,” “tyrannical,” and “unconstitutional.” He declared that he would refuse to follow it and urged all other state judges to follow suit. In response to Moore’s repeated defiance of federal court orders, the Southern Poverty Law Center filed a judicial ethics complaint against him. Moore secured Mat Staver, Kim Davis’ attorney, to defend him.

Alabama’s judicial ethics committee is not a beacon of progressivism. Its judgment in the Moore case begins with a declaration that many members of the committee do not “personally agree” with the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling or think it was “well reasoned.” But the committee unanimously concluded that Moore had abused his position, violated the integrity of the judiciary, failed to comply with the law and perform his duties impartially, and brought “the judicial office into disrepute.” In addition to suspending Moore, the committee ordered him to pay “the costs of this proceeding.”

Moore has already been removed from the bench once, in 2003, for refusing to comply with a federal court order to remove a massive granite monument of the Ten Commandments from the Alabama State Judicial Building. Alabama voters, however, reelected him in 2012. In response to the Moore proceedings, the Alabama Republican Party is attempting to diminish the ethics’ committee’s independence.

High School Suspends Student For “Smelling Like Drugs”

This one is pretty sick. A black teen was suspended from High School, because a teacher though her hand smelled of Marijuana. The School is supporting the suspension even though the girl tested clean on a Drug Test, and had no drugs in her possession!

High school suspends drug-free black teen for ‘drug possession’ — after sniffing her hand

A High school in Wake County, North Carolina has suspended a student for “drug possession”—even though she did not have any drugs on her and passed a drug test.

The reason given by Garner Magnet High School for suspending 15-year-old Jakaya Johnson was that a school resource officer smelled marijuana in the hallway and followed her into a classroom. An assistant principal then determined that her hand smelled like marijuana. How these two officials acquired their expertise in the scent is unclear. Johnson subsequently took a drug test which determined that she had no drugs whatsoever in her system

Johnson has been suspended and compelled to participate in a counseling program—to counsel her, presumably, for her lack of drug use.

While the school has stuck by its arbitrary decision, it has informed Johnson and her understandably furious mother that she can appeal the suspension through an incredibly complex process which places the burden of proof on her, even though she has already proved her innocence.

Like most other manifestations of bad drug policy, people of color are disproportionately affected by school suspensions and expulsions.

Alabama Chief Justice Suspended

The 10 Commandments Judge is at it again! Now, he says he rejects same sex marriage as legal. Since that is already decided Federal Law, in the Supreme Court…

Judge is out of work. It is being decided whether that will be permanent and he will be dismissed from the Alabama Supreme Court entirely.

Alabama Chief Justice Moore suspended for rejecting legalization of same-sex marriage

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore was suspended on Friday for defying the legalization of marriage equality, AL.com reported.

Moore was suspended after the Alabama Judicial Inquiry Commission filed ethics charges against him. Moore will now be tried by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary, and could be removed from the bench if found guilty.

The commission’s move was spurred by complaints by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which released a statement saying Moore had “disgraced” his position.

“He’s such a religious zealot, such an egomaniac that he thinks he doesn’t have to follow federal court rulings he disagrees with,” said the group’s president, Richard Cohen. “For the good of the state, he should be kicked out of office.”

Moore, who stated last year he would “not be bound” by the Supreme Court’s ruling legalizing same-sex marriages because they change the “organic law” of God, was dismissive of the accusations against him.

“The Judicial Inquiry Commission has no authority over the administrative orders of the chief justice of Alabama or the legal injunctions of the Alabama Supreme Court prohibiting probate judges from issuing same-sex marriage licenses,” he said. “The Judicial Inquiry Commission has chosen to listen to people like Ambrosia Starling, a professed transvestite and other gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals, as well as organizations that support their agenda.”

The SPLC’s accusations, in part, concerned Moore’s February 2015 order instructing state probate judges not to follow the high court’s decision, as well as what it described as an undermining of public confidence in his office by doing so.

Moore also faced possible removal from his office in 2003, following his move to install a Ten Commandments monument inside the in the state judicial building. He later refused to follow a federal court order to remove it.

How Stupid Are Conservatives? This Stupid…

Fresh on the heels of the Faux News “Search for a white Trayvon”, the “Santa is white” debacle (parts 1 & 2), we have yet another conservative – who obviously due to a dramatic lowering of standards in order to recruit teachers …

Got a job as a teacher.

Encouraged by the race baiting tactics of the right, the KKK is indeed back…here…and here, and here.

Which gets us to the most recent conservative with “foot in mouth” disease.

Looking at the guys work history, it makes you wonder what a background investigation would show up…

Teacher suspended for alleged comment

A Fairfield Freshman School teacher has been suspended without pay and faces the prospect of dismissal after allegedly making racially insensitive statements to a student earlier this month.

Monday, the Fairfield Board of Education suspended science teacher Gil Voigt. He has 10 days to request a hearing before the school board or a referee.

Voigt, who is white, is accused of telling an African-American male student, “We do not need another black president” after the student said he would like to become president.

The incident occurred on Dec. 3, with several other students present,

according to a report from Assistant Superintendent Roger Martin, who conducted a disciplinary hearing on the matter.

It isn’t the first time the 14-year Fairfield teacher has been disciplined. He received a verbal warning for making an inappropriate racial comment in 2008. That year he also received a verbal warning for improper use of school technology.

Last year he received a verbal warning after allegedly calling a student “stupid” and belittling him. He received a written warning last month for failure to use the adopted curriculum.

“This is a rare occurrence. This is the first time I’ve faced it since being named assistant superintendent (in 2011),” Martin said.

In his report, Martin said he believed four students were interviewed who corroborated the student Voigt was speaking to.

Following a complaint by the student’s parents, the teen was removed from Voigt’s class, Martin said.

“We intend to uphold board policies and to hold teachers accountable for the essential functions of the teacher job description,” Martin said.

Voigt is accused of violating board policies related to staff ethics, staff-student relations and harassment.

Voigt was not present at the meeting and could not be reached on Monday for comment.

According to the report, Voigt said his statement was misquoted by the student, who he said was not a very good student and was troublesome in class.

Voigt has been a Fairfield teacher since 2000. Before that he taught seven years in North Carolina, two years in Florida and six years in the Cincinnati Public Schools.

More of That Meghan Kelly “White Santa” Racism

This is how racism makes you stupid. A High School in New Mexico allowed the kids to come dressed one day as “Santa, elves, or a Reindeer”. A black kid shows up in a Santa outfit, and is criticised for dressing as Santa…

Because “Santa is white”.

Now never mind the fact that none of the Kids dressed as elves…Are the fictitious creatures…

Or the fact that any of the kids with their little antlers on are remotely related to genus Rangifer…

There is no “black Santa”.

This guy must have got his teaching certificate from on of those conservative Voucher schools.

Teacher Disciplined For ‘Santa Is White’ Remark

A New Mexico high school teacher has been disciplined after a parent says the man told his black son that Santa Claus is white.

Officials at the school in Rio Rancho, about 15 miles north of Albuquerque, announced Friday that the teacher recently was disciplined for his comments to the student, but they declined to say how, KOB-TV reported (http://goo.gl/GYqcJr).

The move came after students at Cleveland High School were told they could come to class dressed as Santa, an elf or a reindeer.

Michael Rougier said his ninth-grade son, Christopher, arrived wearing a Santa hat and beard, and the teacher asked the boy: “Don’t you know Santa Clause is white? Why are you wearing that?”

The teacher’s name was not released, and attempts by The Associated Press to reach school officials Saturday were unsuccessful.

Michael Rougier said the teacher’s comments enraged him.

“There’s no room for that in the classroom,” he said. “Whether this teacher felt Christopher may have been wearing this out of context, there’s no room for it. There’s just no room for it.”

The incident happened the same week that Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly said on the air that both Santa Claus and Jesus were white. Her comments drew national attention and prompted a slew of heated comments on blogs and social media sites.

A spokesman for Rio Rancho Public Schools said the Cleveland High School teacher knows he made a “dumb” mistake and has since apologized to the Rougier family.

Michael Rougier said he still has concerns. “If he has that attitude, how is it affecting students, studies, grading habits, trending toward Caucasian kids?” Rougier said of the teacher.

The teacher still works at Cleveland, but Christopher has been removed from his class, KOB-TV reported.

Seattle Superhero Loses His Day Job

Can you imagine the Daily Planet firing Clark Kent?

Well – that is just what happened to Seattle “Superhero” Phoenix Jones…

Phoenix Jones AKA Ben Fodor Has Been Cut From His Day Job Working With Autistic Children

Superhero Phoenix Jones out of work

Seattle’s self-proclaimed crime-fighting super hero is out of work Wednesday night.

He’s still fighting crime, but Phoenix Jones is no longer working for the state and he says kids are the ones who will be suffering.
Most of us know Phoenix Jones on the street, fighting crime and in the dark.  But his day job shows a much different character.
“I teach basic life skills to autistic children,” said Jones.  “Stuff like balancing a checkbook, if you want to go shopping at the mall, how to figure out how much money to spend, how to balance money for the entire month, how to survive with your autism that you have.”
Phoenix Jones has worked for DSHS for the past five years, until last week, when he got a letter from the state.
“It basically just said that effectively immediately, I was no longer able to work with disabled or autistic children,” said Jones.  ‘The reason is because I was put on a list of people who interject themselves into dangerous situations and some government agency put me on that list.”
It all stemmed from this incident last month when the masked superhero tried to break up a fight by dispersing a can of pepper spray on a crowd.  He was arrested for assault.  But no charges have been filed against him and Phoenix Jones says losing his job isn’t fair.
“I feel like it’s an unjust characterization of me. In five years I haven’t had one complaint from any of the people I’ve worked with,” said Jones.
Phoenix Jones says he’ll be patrolling the streets as a superhero during the day, until he can find a new job.  And he hopes that will be soon because he says he has a family to support.

NCAA Basketball Player Cut From Team For Premarital Sex…

This isn’t the NBA… It’s not even the “usual” in terms of NCAA bad behavior.

Brigham Young University has cut their starting Center, on their #3 ranked team…

For admitting to having sex with his girlfriend.

Now, I understand the Honor Code, and a desire to instill morals and fortitude in young folks but…

Wasn’t Brigham Young the guy who brought America polygamy?

NCAA Star Bounced for Having Sex

Dropping from a 1 or 2 Seed to a 7 or 8 In the Big Dance...

Provo • BYU center Brandon Davies was suspended from the Cougars’ nationally ranked team for the remainder of the season because he violated the school’s honor code provision that prohibits premarital sex, The Salt Lake Tribune has learned.

Davies, a sophomore from Provo High School, acknowledged his transgression to BYU officials on Monday, according to multiple sources.

After BYU’s stunning 82-64 loss to New Mexico on Wednesday night, Cougars coach Dave Rose addressed Davies’ dismissal for the first time, saying, “I think it was a surprise to everyone.”

Asked whether he believes Davies will play basketball for BYU again, Rose said, “yeah, I do.”

On Tuesday, the school owned and operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Davies had been dismissed from the team but was being allowed to remain in school while his situation was under review by the Honor Code Office.

BYU spokeswoman Carri Jenkins said Davies’ suspension from the team was for the remainder of the season and that his future at the school has yet to be determined.

Two of Davies’ teammates, Jimmer Fredette and Charles Abouo, said Wednesday night after the loss that they stand behind their former teammate and have no resentment toward him, saying they consider him a brother.

“Everyone makes mistakes in their life,” Abouo said. “We are reaching out and trying to help him get through this.”

Major Hit For Beltway Bandit

This is a first for a major Government contracting company, euphemistically known in the DC area as a Beltway Bandit. This sort of underhanded dealing isn’t that uncommon. Indeed, during the Bushit Administration it was found that several of the major contractors had filed for contracts as Small Businesses and won millions of dollars of contracts illegitimately. A not that uncommon ruse is to set up “minority owned” companies as front companies, where the major contractor does all the work. This steals hundreds of millions of dollars in work from legitimate minority owned, and other small business contractors trying to get a start.

SBA Suspends Government Work For Major Contractor

This is great. I’m always happy to see government contractors held to the same letter of the law as everyone else. Actual consequences are still all too rare for them:

Federal officials on Friday suspended one of the nation’s largest government contractors from receiving new work, alleging that the Northern Virginia company inappropriately went through other firms to gain access to contracts set aside for small companies.

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s action imperils hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for GTSI Corp., a top-50 contractor that has relied on the Pentagon and the rest of the federal government for more than 90 percent of its sales in recent years.

At issue is work GTSI did as a subcontractor for small businesses serving as the prime contractors on government contracts.

“There is evidence that GTSI’s prime contractors had little to no involvement in the performance of contracts, in direct contravention of all applicable laws and regulations regarding the award of small business contracts,” an SBA official wrote in a letter to GTSI’s chief executive, Scott W. Friedlander. “The evidence shows that GTSI was an active participant in a scheme that resulted in contracts set-aside for small businesses being awarded to ineligible contractors.”

[…] “It’s the first time in decades that the government has completely suspended a significant player, a legitimate top-tier contractor,” said Steven Schooner, a contracting law professor at George Washington University. “It puts everybody on notice.”

Aces and 8’s Dead Man’s Phone…

Aces and 8’s…Indeed!

File:Dead man's hand.jpg

A mobile phone company has suspended the number 0888 888 888 – after every single person assigned to it died in the last 10 years.

he first owner Vladimir Grashnov – the former CEO of Bulgarian mobile phone company Mobitel which issued the number – died of cancer in 2001 aged just 48.

The number then passed to Bulgarian mafia boss, Konstantin Dimitrov, who was gunned down in 2003 by a lone assassin in the Netherlands during a trip to inspect his £500 million drug smuggling empire.

Dimitrov, who died aged 31, had the mobile with him when he was shot while eating out with a model.

Russian mafia bosses – jealous of his drug smuggling operation – were said to have been behind the killing.

The phone number then passed to Konstantin Dishliev, a crooked businessman, who was gunned down outside an Indian restaurant in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia after taking over the jinxed line.

Dishliev, an estate agent, had secretly been running a massive cocaine trafficking operation before his assassination in 2005.

He died after £130 million of the drug was intercepted by police on its way into the country from Colombia.

Since then, the number is understood to have been dormant while police maintained an open file on Dishliev’s killing and his smuggling ring.

Now phone bosses are said to have suspended the number for good. Callers now get a recorded message saying the phone is “outside network coverage.”

A Mobitel spokesman would only say: “We have no comment to make. We won’t discuss individual numbers.”

Not Just Black Folks…

Police heavy handedness tends to get a lot of attention when the victims are minorities – not the least reason of which that such heavy handedness all to often results in the death of innocent people.

This kid was acting silly (who doesn’t at some point in College?) – but was hardly posing any threat to the Police. Indeed, he seems to be responding to Police commands to back up, and stop – before he is struck in the face by a charging Police Officer…

Vodpod videos no longer available.

A Prince George’s County, Maryland, police officer has been suspended, and prosecutors are investigating an incident — caught on video — in which officers wielding nightsticks beat a University of Maryland student, officials said Tuesday.

Authorities also are looking into documents filed by police in the case that appear to contradict the video, Prince George’s County police Lt. Andy Ellis said. Read the rest of this entry »
