Hang ‘Em High! Republicans and Sedition

Yeah – I think this would be fitting…Line up all 200 or so Tea Baggers… And treat them as the traitors they are.

MoveOn.org Petition Calls For Arrest Of Republican Leaders For Sedition

The 16-day shutdown of the federal government has finally come to an end, but many Americans are still furious about what they perceive as a GOP-sponsored gambit to defund the Affordable Care Act.

One outlet for that fury is a petition from the progressive MoveOn.org that calls for the U.S. Department of Justice to arrest and try Republican leaders, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (Va.) and House Speaker John Boehner (Ohio), for “the crime of seditious conspiracy against the United States of America.”

The petition argues that “the House GOP leadership’s use of the Hastert Rule and H. Res 368 to shut down the government and threaten the US economy with default is an attempt to extort the United States government into altering or abolishing the Affordable Care Act, and thus, is self-evidently a seditious conspiracy.” (The U.S. Codedefines “seditious conspiracy” in part as any conspiracy “to oppose by force the authority [of the U.S. government], or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States.”)

With more than 21,000 signatures to date, the petition reflects a wider revulsion over the government’s costly political meltdown — which, among other consequences, resulted in furloughs for 800,000 federal workers, the shuttering of some Head Start programs, the suspension of federal health and safety inspections, and the loss of $24 billion in economic activity.

At the end of the standoff, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) was among those still angered by the shutdown, although not so angry as to accuse anyone of being an enemy of the state.

“I’m glad that the government shutdown has ended, and I’m relieved that we didn’t default on our debt. But I want to be clear: I am NOT celebrating tonight,” the senator wrote in an email Wednesday night. “So I’m relieved, but I’m also pretty angry.”

Obama – “Fox News Destructive to America”

The newly combative President Obama is pulling no punches…

At Last!

Faux News is nothing more than a propaganda outlet for the far right. It has fully supported, and actively promoted the formation and continuance of the Tea Party. It has given platform to right-wing whack jobs, and actively promoted outright lies and distortions.

If Obama had anyone on his staff with cajones larger than pinheads… The FCC would have either shut down, or fined Faux into compliance a long time ago.

Obama: Fox News is ‘destructive’ to America

President Obama is pulling no punches when it comes to Fox News, declaring the cable news outlet to be “destructive to [America’s] long-term growth.”

In a more than 8,000-word interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, Obama compared the cable news channel to papers owned by William Randolph Hearst at the turn of the 20th century that unabashedly pushed the media titan’s own political views.

“You had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition – it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view,” Obama told the magazine.

Officials in the Obama White House have long made Fox News a punchingbag, launching a full blown offensive last year when aides declared the network to be “opinion journalism masquerading as news.” Then-White House Communications Director Anita Dunn said the cable outlet “operates almost as either the research arm or the communications arm of the Republican Party,” and top aide Valerie Jarret called Fox “clearly biased.”

But the new comments from Obama constitute the president’s most direct attack yet on the network owned by business mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Fox News pushes “a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world,” Obama said.

“But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.”

Governor Deval Patrick – Republican Sedition

Patrick is not the first one to say this. Some Republicans are attempting to break the US Government such that it will fail. In particular, some of the the Tea Baggers, especially Beck and his cohorts are seeking to foment violent revolution. I don’t feel “almost” is an apt description…

It is Treason.

Patrick says Obama critics are ‘almost at the level of sedition’

Governor Deval Patrick, even as he decried partisanship in Washington, said today that Republican opposition to President Obama’s agenda has become so obstinate that it “is almost at the level of sedition.”

The Democratic governor, who is close to the president, made the comments at a forum at Suffolk Law School’s Rappaport Center, where he was asked by an audience member about partisan battling in Congress.

Patrick said that even “on my worst day, when I’m most frustrated about folks who seem to rooting for failure,” he doesn’t face anything like the opposition faced by the president.

“It seems like child’s play compared to what is going on in Washington, where it is almost at the level of sedition, it feels to like me,” Patrick said.

Merriam-Webster.com, the dictionary site, defines sedition as “incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.”

Some Indeed Call it Treason!

The Times Joe Klein says the “S” word relative to some of the right wing media activity. He isn’t the only person saying that, as this article over at HuffPo by Andrew Reinbach points out:

Meanwhile, the Right-Wing media has been doing everything it can to whip up anger and hatred against government at every level, and the Republican Party has been pandering to the Tea Party movement by steadily moving to the Right, hoping thereby to be able to count on those votes come November.

Some of that whipping up is dangerously close to sedition — incitement to revolt against established government — even if it is cloaked in calls to defend the people’s government from Socialism, and similar fantasies.

The resulting hysteria has intensified since the 2008 election. In that one-year period, the number of Right-Wing militias has mushroomed–according to the Southern Poverty Legal Center, from 42 in 2008, to 127 in 2009.

The issue here is that the Faux News Media personalities have crossed the line from dissent into the realm of Treason and Sedition. As much as I hate the idea of repressing Free Speech, there comes a time to ask some serious questions.

I disagree with Joe Klein only based on the fact that Beck and Limbaugh are on the public airwaves – and as such, when lying or deliberately providing flase information over the public airwaves in an attempt to incite insurrection…

Are committing Sedition. Sarah Palin doesn’t have that publicly provided soap box. What she says in front of a froth mouth group of Tea Bagger idiots speaking before the nimrods…

As such, short of actually calling for and inciting violent acts – is protected.

Tea Bagger Treason

This Tea Bagger who is running in the Republican Primary to run against Democrat Sen. Bayh in Illinois threatens to get his guns if he doesn’t win…

Vodpod videos no longer available.

With the number of mass killings by whack jobs with guns in this country, what we need is an Andy Griffith – Barney Fife Law for Whackjobs. Not going to take away your “right to bear arms” – but anyplace outside your home, if you make the “Whackjob Alert List” by threatening violent overthrow of the government or mass murder…

You only get to have one bullet… In your pocket – not your gun.

Beck’s Wreck

The Beck-wreck continues…

Going to be an interesting two weeks. With Obama finally figuring out that the Republicans aren’t interested in bipartisanship, the Dems – if they develop the cajones – can move into steamroller mode.

The attempt at working with these rabid dogs has given them a platform completely out of proportion with their importance and numbers, and provided undeserved traction for Rethugs in the mid-term election cycle.

Way past time to drop the hammer, and move forward without them.

Once President and the Democrats do that, the public howling recedes back down to the background noise level.
