Oprah for President?

The country is suffering under serial disasters from our first celebrity president.

One of the characteristics of Third World countries is the election of popular entertainers over solid politicians. Leading to even more misery as the woefully underprepared singer/actor/media type struggles not only with how the country’s government works – but the far more complex world of international relations and finance. Saw that in Haiti, and it is one of the big reasons the rebuilding effort and flow of international money into the country stopped.

There isn’t any need to go into the long term and possibly catastrophic damage of the Chumph.

To fix that is going to take an experienced and steady hand. And it will take years if not a decade.

Yeah the Stock Market is at 25,000. What are you going to do when the inevitable “reset” comes and it drops to 12,000? A number of folks I have talked to in finance and investment think that is on the short term horizon.

So… What is Oprah bringing to the party? She is undoubtedly a very intelligent person with communications skill non pareil. But she knows absolutely nothing (just like the current POS in office) about the more complex international and strategic issues.

So, in my view – Oprah, please don’t run!

‘The Boondocks’ predicted an ‘Oprah 2020’ presidency more than a decade ago

Oprah Winfrey’s speech on Sunday night at the Golden Globes pitched the worlds of politics, entertainment and media into fits of hysterical speculation. The television host and media titan delivered fist-pumping remarks after accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award — the first African American woman honored with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s top laurel.

The comments, while straying away from outright political terrain, focused on changing the world order controlled by “brutally powerful men,” a reference to the sexual harassment scandals that have upset so many industries. “A new day is on the horizon,” she concluded to applause.

Almost immediately rallying cries spread online for a “Oprah 2020” presidential campaign. Winfrey’s longtime partner, Stedman Graham, told a Los Angeles Times reporter that “it’s up to the people,” adding “she would absolutely do it.”

But in a fictional way, an Oprah Winfrey White House has already happened. In 2006, the edgy cartoon “The Boondocks” predicted a Winfrey 2020 presidency.

“The Boondocks,” the brainchild of artist and University of Maryland graduate Aaron McGruder, began as a syndicated comic strip in 1996 before jumping onto Cartoon Network as an animated show on the network’s lineup in 2005. Following the life of a young black family in a white neighborhood, McGruder’s work constantly bucked norms and pushed sensitive buttons.

The season one episode “Return of the King” was especially controversial. The program imagined an alternative history in which the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. was not assassinated in 1968. Instead, he had fallen into a coma. In the episode he wakes up in 2000. King’s nonviolent views become so unpopular following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks that he leaves to live in Canada.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, a civil rights activist and political commentator, was incensed by the program. “Cartoon Network must apologize and also commit to pulling episodes that desecrate black historic figures,” he said, USA Today reported at the time.

The episode later won a 2006 Peabody Award.

In the show’s final frames, a newspaper headline from November 8, 2020, shows Oprah Winfrey has just been elected president.

McGruder’s premise was likely not intended as a complete farce. In the past, the artist has talked about Winfrey’s real power. “Oprah has the power to lay waste to entire industries with a mere utterance,” he told the New York Times in 2005. “That’s a power that you have to respect. And ultimately I respect it.”

Oddly, there is a precedent of edgy cable cartoons successfully forecasting future political events. In 2000, “The Simpsons” broadcast an episode entitled “Bart to the Future.” The plot involved a President Trump.

Oprah Walks the Walk – $6 Million in Grants to Schools

Think I had a discussion with a certain verbose black conservative a few days ago about walking the walk – instead of constantly suffering from diarrhea of the mouth. The fundamental difference between progressives and conservatives isn’t in “giving” – one can argue that some conservatives certainly stand up when it’s time to write a check for a good cause…

It’s in doing.

Oprah’s Angel Network Grants $6 Million to U.S. Charter School Programs

On Monday, September 20, Oprah Winfrey announced six surprise Oprah’s Angel Network grants to high-performing U.S. charter school programs on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The grants from the public charity were announced during the show, which featured the gripping new documentary,Waiting For “Superman”, as well as a candid discussion about why some of America’s public schools are failing and the potential movement to revolutionize them.

“I value nothing more in the world than education. It is the reason why I can stand here today. It is an open door to freedom. And we wanted to be able to, on behalf of the viewers, give you something to go back to your schools and make life better for the children in your schools,” Winfrey said as she handed the representatives from each of the six designated charter school programs an Angel Network check for $1 million.

The grants were distributed to the following charter school programs:

 • Aspire Public Schools (California)
 • Denver School of Science & Technology (Colorado)
 • LEARN Charter School Network (Chicago, Illinois)
 • Mastery Charter Schools (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania)
 • Sci Academy / New Orleans Charter Science and Math Academy (Louisiana)
 • YES Prep Public Schools (Houston, Texas)

These charitable donations will support and enhance operations for these successful charter school programs. The six groundbreaking programs are leaders in providing quality public education.

Winfrey then acknowledged the home viewing audience, “I’ve been honored to have your trust over the years and I have kept my promise to spend your money on projects and programs that I deeply believe—that you believe also—can make a difference???I’m so proud of what we’ve all accomplished together.”

Oprah’s Angel Network has funded more than 200 grants and projects in more than 30 countries around the world in order to improve access to education, protect basic rights, create communities of support and develop leaders of tomorrow. The Angel Network was born from The Oprah Winfrey Show and its viewers’ desire to make a difference in the lives of others. As the funding part of the charity has drawn to a close, the spirit of the Angel Network will live on through the stories on its website. To learn more about the history of Oprah’s Angel Network,

Drugbo Takes on Oprah!

Limbaugh Takes Racial Swipe at Obama, Oprah

Rush Limbaugh has taken on his most powerful opponent yet. No, not the president: Oprah. Limbaugh went on a reverse-racism rant on his Tuesday show, declaring that both Oprah and President Obama were only successful because they were black. “Somebody asked me over the weekend, why does somebody earn a lot of money? Because she’s black. It was Oprah,” Rush said. “There’s a lot of guilt out there, show we’re not racists, we’ll make this person wealthy and big and famous.”

Likewise, in Limbaugh’s mind, Obama wouldn’t have been elected if not for his race. “If Obama weren’t black, he’d be a tour guide in Honolulu or he’d be teaching Saul Alinsky constitutional law.” You can read the full transcript here.

PETA and Michelle Obama

Seems that PETA has a new ad running which features 4 of the best known women in America (well – at least 2)…

Hat Tip – Daily FLOTUS

Peta's New Ad features Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Tyra Banks, and Carrie Underwood

PETA Features Michelle Obama in Ad Without Her Consent

PETA, the animal rights group, is featuring Michelle Obama in an ad with Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Underwood and Tyra Banks without the first lady’s permission. PETA’s position is that it is honoring her — and the other stars — for not wearing fur.

“We did not consent to it,” Semonti M. Stephens, a spokesman for Mrs. Obama, told Politics Daily on Wednesday. // <![CDATA[//

The banners, posted at the Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights subway stations in Washington, are headlined “Fur-Free and Fabulous!” There are also two vans driving around Washington with a similar message, and serving hot soy cocoa.

Stephens has said Mrs. Obama does not wear fur.

PETA President Ingrid Newkirk told Politics Daily on Wednesday that using Mrs. Obama’s image is “fair game” because the organization is “reporting a fact . . . that she is fur-free” — as any news organization would.

“So we are reporting that she is fur-free, which is a fact and our opinion is that makes her pretty fabulous.”

The East Wing, she said, “could never give their permission for something like that. It is a compliment to her. We are honoring her, by making her a prime figure with women who have sworn off fur.”

The ad campaign will remain up as long as it is cold; that should be awhile.

Oprah’s Interview of Mike Tyson

Here are the soundbyte versions of this –

The entire interview is much more involved, and goes through various stages of Tyson’s life, including his metamorphosis. Unfortunately, this clip was the only one I could find which wasn’t obviously pirated off the air…
