White Baton Rouge man arrested in deaths of two black men

Authorities say a 23-year-old white Baton Rouge man has been arrested and will be charged with murder in the fatal shootings of two black men.

Interim Police Chief Jonny Dunnam said Tuesday that Kenneth James Gleason was accused of killing a homeless man and a dishwasher. Bruce Cofield, 59, was killed last Tuesday. Two nights later, Donald Smart, 49, was fatally shot as he was walking to his job at Louie’s Cafe.

Gleason is expected to be charged with two counts of first-degree murder, officials announced Tuesday. He’s also accused of firing on a black family’s home. Gleason was led away from the police department in handcuffs just before authorities there held a news conference.

In both shootings, the gunman fired from his car, then walked up to the victims as they were lying on the ground and fired again multiple times. Neither victim had any prior relationship with Gleason. Police have said there was a “strong possibility” the shootings were racially motivated but in the press conference Tuesday didn’t detail Gleason’s alleged motive.

“Had there not been a swift conclusion in this case, I feel confident this killer probably would have killed again, and could have potentially created a tear in the fabric that holds this community together,” Dunnam said Tuesday.

A law enforcement official who spoke to the Associated Press on the condition of anonymity said a copy of an Adolf Hitler speech was found at Gleason’s home.

Gleason’s attorney, J. Christopher Alexander, said his client “vehemently denies guilt, and we look forward to complete vindication.” Alexander declined to say anything else.

Officials had been searching for a red car linked to the investigation when they spotted Gleason driving the vehicle and pulled him over Saturday, East Baton Rouge Parish District Attorney Hillar Moore said in a press conference. Gleason was arrested on drug charges, but he was bailed out of jail late Sunday even though authorities considered him a “person of interest” in the murders.

Gleason was arrested again on Monday by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office on a charge of stealing a book — “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” — from a Baton Rouge bookstore as authorities awaited test results from the state crime lab. Those results linked DNA on shell casings found at one of the scenes to Gleason, Moore said.

The ATF’s National Integrated Ballistic Information Network determined on Friday that shell casings found at both scenes were fired from the same weapon, Moore said.

Moore said it was highly unusual for DNA to be found on spent shell casings and praised the work of local law enforcement and the quick turnaround from federal and state forensic investigators that helped them secure the arrest warrant.

Gleason is also expected to be charged by the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office with firing at his neighbor’s home Sept. 11. The home was occupied, but no one was injured. Moore said an African-American family lived in the home, but did not say whether he believed hate was a motive.

It’s not clear if Gleason knew the family.

Moore said Gleason “made statements” to investigators but wouldn’t detail what he said.  Moore said his office could seek the death penalty.

“It appears to be cold, calculated, planned (against) people who were unarmed and defenseless,” he said. “We don’t need to prove motive. There are a lot of things that are unanswered.”

Sgt. L’Jean McKneely, a spokesman with Baton Rouge police, told CBS affiliate WAFB detectives still believe the crimes were racially motivated, but the investigation is ongoing to determine for sure.

Authorities are still searching for the weapon used in the crime.

A man who walked around Seattle wearing a Nazi armband got punched in the face after he allegedly harassed a black passenger on a bus.

BuzzFeed reports that the unidentified Nazi was first spotted riding on a bus, where witnesses say he was harassing a black passenger. From there, anti-fascist activists used social media to track the man’s whereabouts, and he was eventually spotted on a street corner in the downtown area.

While there, he got into a confrontation with unidentified people who objected to him walking around wearing a Nazi arm band. At one point, one man punched the neo-Nazi directly in the face, which knocked him onto the sidewalk.

In an interview with BuzzFeed, one of the anonymous social media users who helped track the Seattle Nazi applauded the unidentified man who knocked the Nazi to the ground.

“I would say that we successfully identified, tracked and coordinated to neutralize a clear and present danger to Seattle,” said the user. “Whether we coordinated the actual punch or not… I, for one, applaud the anonymous hero.”

Sebastian Gorka out of White House after controversies over neo-Nazi connections and phony Ph.D.

Controversial White House adviser Sebastian Gorka is stepping down from his role in the Trump administration to take an unspecified position in “the war of ideas,” said TheHill.com on Sunday.

The announcement comes after Gorka’s Ph.D. was revealed to be fraudulently awarded and his connections to a Hungarian neo-Nazi group were exposed by the Jewish Daily Forward.

The Washington Examiner said, “Gorka’s new role will deal with the ‘war of ideas’ involved in countering radical Islamic extremism, a senior administration official said, and will entail an appointment to a federal agency.”

Rumors swirled this week that Gorka was on his way out, that White House personnel were attempting to find him a new position, but that the situation was proving to be “a pain in the ass.”

The Hungarian-English self-styled “expert” in Islamic terrorism came to the Trump administration by way of Breitbart.com, where he and his wife were both editors writing about the threat purportedly posed to western society by radical Muslims.

However, University of North Carolina professor Andrew Reynolds found upon doing a bit of research on Gorka’s credentials that Gorka fudged his way through a correspondence course at a Hungarian university that “did not rank among the top 1,000 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.”

Gorka’s Ph.D., said Reynolds, “is about as legitimate as if he had been awarded it by Trump University.”

Even more troubling are Gorka’s links to far-right Hungarian extremists and anti-Semites. At President Donald Trump’s inauguration, Gorka wore the medal awarded to his father by “a knightly order of merit founded in 1920 by Admiral Miklos Horthy, Hungary’s longtime anti-Semitic ruler and Hitler’s ally during World War II,” said the Jewish Daily Forward.

Top Trump adviser Sebastian Gorka is a ‘sworn member’ of Nazi-linked group: report

Controversial Trump counter-terrorism aide Sebastian Gorka is facing fresh scrutiny for his ties to far-right political organizations in Hungary.

Forward.com reports that Hungarian group Vitézi Rend, a far-right organization that the United States State Department claims was “under the direction of the Nazi Government of Germany” during World War II, is claiming that Gorka is one of its “sworn members” who took a “life-long oath of loyalty.”

What makes this particularly interesting, notes Forward, is that Gorka’s immigration status in the United States could be jeopardized if he failed to disclose his relationship with the group.

“The State Department’s Foreign Affairs Manual specifies that members of the Vitézi Rend ‘are presumed to be inadmissible’ to the country under the Immigration and Nationality Act,” the website writes.

Gorka’s ties to Vitézi Rend were first revealed earlier this year when a photograph emerged of him wearing one of the group’s medals.

Gorka, who is of Hungarian descent and was born in the United Kingdom, did not respond to Forward’s request for comment, although he has denied in the past that he has any ties to neo-Nazis or anti-Semitic organizations.

Fox Business Network reportedly used a neo-Nazi collaborator to bolster President Donald Trump’s suggestion that Sweden was experiencing an uptick in violence due to Muslim immigrants.

Just days after Fox News host Bill O’Reilly admitted that his show falsely billed Nils Bildt as a Swedish national security adviser, the Swedish magazine Expo has uncovered a guest on the Fox Business Network who may be even more troubling.

On Feb. 21, Fox Business host Cheryl Casone asked “Swedish columnist Ingrid Carlqvist” to push back on the president’s critics without mentioning her guest’s right-wing extremist views or ties to the Swedish neo-Nazi movement, according to Expo.

“What the viewers are never told is that Ingrid Carlqvist has been a central player in the anti-Muslim counter-jihad movement,” the magazine reports on Thursday. “Nor are the viewers made aware that she recently accused ‘representatives of the ethnic group of Jews’ in Sweden of being behind Sweden’s cultural diversity, a conspiracy theory that Swedish nazis have long promoted.”

Neo-Nazi gets punched in the face while handing out racist fliers at California campus

A white nationalist was punched in the face last week while handing out neo-Nazi literature on a California campus.

The man, who police have not identified, went Wednesday to the campus of California Polytechnic State University and passed out fliers in front of the Robert E. Kennedy Library, reported Mustang News.

The fliers promoting the American Nazi Party showed a swastika, which the papers identify as “a symbol of white power.”

Campus police were called to the scene and spoke to the man, but officers found no laws were broken and allowed him to remain outside the library.

The man returned Thursday to the San Luis Obispo campus to pass out fliers.

Another man, whose face was covered, approached the neo-Nazi and punched him in the face before running away.

The neo-Nazi declined to file a police report or give officers his name.

Another neo-Nazi, Richard Spencer, was famously punched in the face during inaugural festivities for Donald Trump last month in Washington, D.C.

Video of that incident were widely shared.

White nationalist Richard Spencer was reportedly sucker-punched in his face during the inaugural festivities for President Donald Trump today.

A video shared on Twitter shows Spencer discussing the “White lives matter” movement while he’s being harassed and heckled by onlookers. One person called Spencer a Nazi and Spencer corrected the person, claiming that Nazis actually hate him.

While Spencer was talking about the impact Pepe the Frog had during the election, an unidentified white man dressed in a black hoodie with a black cloth over his face approached Spencer and punched him in the face. Spencer collapsed to the side and quickly ran away while fixing his hair. Claims that this occurred during the inaugural festivities are unverified, however.

The attacker fled the scene in the opposite direction.

Spencer, a leader of the so-called “alt-right” movement, has come under political attack for his white nationalism and his targeting of professors. He notoriously held a gathering of neo-Nazis and white nationalists shortly after the election not far from the White House. Spencer’s final remarks led the crowd in a chant of “Hail Trump!” in which audience members raised their hands in a Nazi salute. Spencer’s mother has also come under fire in her Montana town and white nationalists have tried to organize a rally in support.

Steve Bannon, the Breitbart News Network executive chairman known for having white nationalist views ― and who has himself been accused of anti-Semitism ― was named chief strategist and senior counselor to President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday.

Bannon, 62, was taking time off from Breitbart to serve as CEO of the Trump campaign before Sunday’s announcement giving him a senior leadership role in the incoming administration.

Trump also announced Sunday that Republican National Committee Chair Reince Priebus would serve as his chief of staff.

“Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory,” Trump said in a press release announcing the appointments. “Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again.”

David Axelrod, who served as senior advisor to President Barack Obama during his first term, said via Twitter Sunday that picking Priebus over Bannon as chief of staff could signal Trump taking a more “conventional” approach, but later said that having Bannon in the White House at all was “deeply troubling.”

Bannon’s name appeared above Priebus’ in the release, suggesting his significance in the Trump administration could rival that of the chief of staff. A president’s top strategist and senior counselor typically control access to the president and help set and carry out his agenda.

At Breitbart, Bannon helped make the hardline populist website a go-to resource for white nationalists and the alt-right, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups.

Breitbart served as a mouthpiece for the Trump campaign and an attack dogagainst conservatives like House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) who were critical of Trump.

Breitbart has propagated conspiracy theories, like Planned Parenthood having Nazi ties or Clinton aide Huma Abedin being a spy for Saudi Arabia. The website traffics in misogynist and racist stories; it frames women who push back against harassment or gender bias as weak and incompetent and portrays people of color and immigrants as inherently criminal.

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) spokesman Adam Jentleson said Trump’s choice of Bannon “signals that White Supremacists will be represented at the highest levels in Trump’s White House. “

“It is easy to see why the KKK views Trump as their champion,” he added.

The SPLC and the Anti-Defamation League expressed concern over the appointment as well, with the ADL saying Bannon and “his alt-right are so hostile to core American values.”

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he has chosen Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus as his White House chief of staff, putting his trust in an establishment figure after railing against the political establishment from the start of his candidacy.

Steve Bannon, a Breitbart News executive and leader of the so-called “alt-right” movement, will serve as Trump’s chief strategist and senior counselor.

 “I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country,” Trump said in a statement. “Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again.”

The announcement caps days of speculation about which aides will oversee the White House, roles that will be particularly important because the president-elect lacks Washington experience. In picking Priebus, Trump appears to be trying to allay concerns of congressional Republicans, many of whom have relationships with the RNC chairman. Some of them view Bannon, whose incendiary Breitbart website has aggressively targeted Ryan and the Republican establishment, with suspicion.

Donald Trump tweeted a meme Saturday that used dog-whistle anti-Semitism to announce that his political rival, “Crooked Hillary,” had “made history.” The meme Trump tweeted prominently featured the Star of David — a holy symbol of the Jewish religion that Nazis attempted to pervert by forcing Jews over the age of 6 to sew it onto their clothing during Hitler’s reign.

Emblazoned onto the Star of David in Trump’s meme are the words “Most Corrupt Candidate Ever!”

Mic discovered Sunday that Donald Trump’s Twitter wasn’t the first place the meme appeared. The image was previously featured on /pol/ — an Internet message board for the alt-right, a digital movement of neo-Nazis, anti-Semites and white supremacists newly emboldened by the success of Donald Trump’s rhetoric — as early as June 22, over a week before Trump’s team tweeted it.         

Though the thread where the meme was featured no longer exists, you can find it by searching the URL in Archive.is, a “time capsule of the internet” that saves unalterable text and graphic of webpages. Doing so allows you to see the thread on /pol/ as it originally existed.

Of note is the file name of the photo, HillHistory.jpg, potentially a nod to the Neo-Nazi code for “HH,” or “Heil Hitler,” which the alt-right is fond of hiding in plain sight.

The image also appeared on a Twitter account that regularly tweets violent, racist memes commenting on the state of geopolitical politics.

Why Violence at Trump Rallies Matters

It has been extensively noted in the press that Drumph rallies are increasingly becoming more like Nazi Party rallies in the early 30’s. Drumph himself is promoting and encouraging violence against protesters, the press, and even innocent visitor of color at his rallies.

Yasmeen Alamiri was standing in the press pen at a Donald Trump rally in Radford, Virginia, late last month when a man in the crowd called her a terrorist.

The slur didn’t register, perhaps because Alamiri, a 31-year-old Arab-American, had heard it before, or more likely because she was focused on her work as a reporter for RarePolitics.com. It was another reporter who told her about the epithet.

Forty-five minutes later, as Alamiri walked to the edges of the press pen to get a good angle for her Facebook Live feed, it happened again. Another man in the crowd walked by and motioned to a nearby police officer. “Are you there for this terrorist?” he asked, gesturing to Alamiri.

She said she was spooked. Though she enjoys a good relationship with Trump’s staff, the rally was tense. “It felt like something could happen,” she told The Huffington Post.

At one point, Alamiri left to find a bathroom and approached a student from Radford University — where the rally was being held — to ask for directions. The young woman refused to help. “You are a member of the media,” she said, “and you are disgusting and sleazy.”

Alamiri was struck not just by the unprompted vitriol, but by the word choice. Trump had used the same adjectives to describe the press corps during his speech. “I was like, these supporters are just mimicking what he is saying and his anger, however staged it is, is resonating,” she recalled thinking.

After she finished covering the event and began walking to her car a few miles away, Alamir noticed herself moving briskly and not making eye contact with people in the crowd.

“I’m a foreign policy reporter. My family lives in Iraq and I go to Iraq every year,” she said. “For me to be scared of something says a lot, since I’m going to active war zones.”

Alamiri, in a perverse way, is one of the lucky among those who find themselves on the receiving end of Trump supporters’ abuse. Her incident in Virginia didn’t end in a physical altercation.

But another reporter’s did. At that same event, a Secret Service staffer grabbed a Time magazine photographer by the neck and slammed him into a table. The veteran White House photographer, Christopher Morris, had stepped out of the press pen to get a better shot of protesters. He later said he regretted his role in the confrontation, but called the agent’s response “unnecessarily violent.”

Racial slurs, nasty rhetoric and violence at Trump rallies have become commonplace against protesters, bystanders, and reporters. Assaults are committed not only by rowdy Trump fans, but by the staff he employs to keep the events safe. But rather than denounce these incidents, Trump is making them part of his brand, and uses them to rev up crowds.

“There may be somebody with tomatoes in the audience,” Trump warned people at a rally in Iowa last month. “If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously. Okay? Just knock the hell — I promise you, I will pay for the legal fees.”

Trump has even threatened to personally get in on the action. “I’d like to punch him in the face, I’ll tell ya,” he said of a protester on Feb. 22.

Threats against reporters have become so pervasive at Trump rallies that many of those who cover the Republican front-runner seem to have a personal story. As Katy Tur, the Trump embed for NBC News, described in a Tweet, “Trump trashes press. Crowd jeers. Guy by press ‘pen’ looks at us & screams “you’re a bitch!” Other gentleman gives cameras the double bird.”

As Trump moves closer to winning the Republican nomination, the tension at his events has grown….More Here…

French RIght Wing Terrorist Not Much Different From American Counterparts

French Nazis aren’t any different than their American counterparts… Now unlike the US where drive-bys and school shootings enabled by our out of control gun culture are an everyday occurance – this level of violence is something drastic for France, as it is in most of the world.

Sarkozy: Gunman in French shootings driven by racism

French President Nicolas Sarkozy said that the same gunman who shot dead a teacher and three children at a Jewish school in Toulouse on Monday was also responsible for the killing of three soldiers last week, apparently motivated by racism.

“We know that it is the same person and the same weapon that killed the soldiers, the children and the teacher,” Sarkozy said in a televised address, saying the terrorism alert level in France had been raised.

“This act is odious and cannot remain unpunished.”

Sarkozy also said he would suspend his campaign for France’s April-May presidential election until Wednesday.

French paper Le Point reported that French police are searching for three former paratroopers in connection with the Toulouse Jewish school shooting that left four dead.

According to the report, the paratroopers were dismissed over suspicion of being neo-Nazis in 2008. The Jerusalem Post could not confirm the report.

French police said earlier Monday that forensic evidence revealed the gun used to kill four people — a teacher, his two children and another child — at the Ozar Hatorah school was the same used to slay three French soldiers on two separate occasions nearby.

The victims in the shootings were all members of minority groups but the exact motivation of the killer is yet unknown.

The first murder linked to the gun took place on March 11. Police found the body of Imad Ibn-Ziaten, a 30-year-old staff sergeant of North African descent, dead behind a school in Toulouse. Investigators suspect the off duty serviceman was lured there by his murderer.

Last Thursday a gunman riding a scooter and wearing a black helmet opened fire on three French soldiers in uniform at a shopping mall in Montauban, a city 50 kilometers north of Toulouse. Abel Chennouf, 24, and Mohamed Legouad, 26, both of North African descent, were killed. Loic Liber, 28, of Afro-Caribbean descent, was left in a coma.

On Monday morning a motorcyclist similar in description to the gunman involved in the second attack drove up to the entrance of Ozar Hatorah in Toulouse and opened fire on a group of parents and children that gathered outside on the start of the school day.

Yonathan Sandler, a 30-year-old teacher from Jerusalem; his two children Aryeh, 6, and Gavriel, 3; and 8-year-old Miriam Monstango, the daughter of the school’s principal, died in the attack and several others were wounded.

“We are struck by the similarities between the modus operandi of today’s drama and those last week even if we have to wait to have more elements from the police to confirm this hypothesis,” said French President Nicolas Sarkozy at a press conference.

French police have launched a massive manhunt for the suspect while French Interior Minister Claude Gueant has ordered increased security at Jewish schools throughout the country.

The Racism in Russia – Ultra-Nationalist White Supremacists Gangs

Racism has been a historical issue in Russia. Stalin murdered near as many Jews as Hitler, and even before the Communists took control, anti-minority sentiment caused any number of pogroms. Even under communism, it was extremely rare to see a USSR athlete in the Olympics or International competitions who wasn’t white, despite the fact that the USSR was a very diverse nation.

Racism in Russia took a decidedly neo-Nazi slant before the fall of communism when Russian special forces troops, every bit as proud and patriotic as their American counterparts,  first were bogged down in Angola, and later in Afghanistan getting their heads handed to them by the locals. After the fall of communism, these groups began to form para-military uber-nationalist organizations on the lines of the Hitler era SS and Skinheads. These gangs have wreaked violence all over the country – typically attacking Asian and other minority students and people in and around the major cities. Slain Moscow Judge is a Lesson for Russian Gov’t

Moscow City Judge Eduard Chuvashov, famous for presiding over a series of high-profile murder cases blamed on skinhead groups, was shot dead in his apartment building earlier this week. His death is only the latest in a wave of ultranationalist and neo-Nazi violence that has been steadily growing in Russia over the past decade. The hate crime watchdog Sova estimates that 71 people were murdered and more than 300 were wounded in such crimes in Russia last year alone.

The surge in Russian nationalism has been endorsed in no small part by a variety of government representatives. At the same time, Russian rights activists and oppositionists have been repeatedly targeted by ultranationalist groups, and accuse the government for turning a blind eye. The editorial team at Gazeta.ru points out that with Chuvashov’s murder, they’re going to have to either start make some changes or start watching their backs.

Attempts by the Russian authorities to use nationalist organizations to further their own goals, in particular the battle against the democratic opposition that exists outside of the political system, are dangerous to the authorities themselves.

 

Tea Baggers Shagged By Neo-Nazis, White Supremacists, and Neo-McVeighs

Neo-Cons, Neo-Nazis And Neo-McVeighs Crash Ron Paul’s Tea Party

The Tea Party, which started off as a Libertarian protest against taxes and government, has turned into a right wing, corporate sponsored,  racist hate-fest. Three groups have joined the Libertarian founders of the Tea Party movement to add money, racism, hatred and conspiracy theory based paranoia to the Tea Pot.

The first group is the Neo-Cons. The same people behind the Bush administration have decided to use the Tea Party movement to put the Republicans back in power. They are doing this, using the former mouthpieces for the Bush White House, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh and conservative radio.

Ron Paul: Republicans Want A Neo-Con Influence in the Tea Party

Neo-Cons like Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin have had prominent roles speaking at Tea Party events, and Neo-Con pundits, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck have been prominent cheerleaders for the movement.

Tea Parties are funded by FreedomWorks, which is run by Dick Armey. Armey is the author for the contract for America and was house majority leader for the Republicans during the nineties. He worked closely with Tom Delay and Newt Gingrich in congress.

The Neo-Con infiltration of the Tea Party is also known as astro-turfing. When well-funded political insiders try and pass off a well-orchestrated political movement funded by lobbyists as a grass roots, people’s movement it is called “astro-turing” (fake grass-roots).

The next group that has managed to infiltrate the tea party has been the Neo-Nazis. The white nationalists have seen the anger over a Black President and the mostly white make up of the tea party protesters and have decided to use the Tea Parties as a vehicle to spout their racist views and recruit new members.
