Louisiana Deputy Gets 40 Years In Prison For Killing Boy

Derrick Stafford was convicted in the 2015 killing of a 6-year-old boy who died in a volley of gunfire after the officer chased his father’s car.

A Louisiana deputy marshal was sentenced on Friday to 40 years in prison for the 2015 killing of a 6-year-old boy who died in a volley of gunfire after the officer chased his father’s car.

Derrick Stafford, 33, was convicted by a jury last week of manslaughter and attempted manslaughter in the death of Jeremy Mardis and wounding of his father, Chris Few.

The incident was a “senseless tragedy,” Judge William Bennett said on Friday at the Avoyelles Parish Courthouse here. “The shooting simply should never have occurred.”

The boy’s grandmother, Cathy Mardis, told the court Jeremy “didn’t just die. He died a brutal, miserable, lonely death filled with pain.”

Prosecutors had charged Stafford with second-degree murder in the boy’s death, but a jury by a 10-2 vote convicted him of the lesser charge.

Bennett also sentenced Stafford to 15 years in prison for wounding Few, but ordered those sentences to run concurrently.

At least four bullets ripped through Jeremy when Stafford and another officer, Norris Greenhouse Jr., opened fire on Few’s car at the end of a chase through the small central Louisiana town of Marksville on Nov. 3, 2015.

Body camera footage of the shooting captured by a third officer shows Few, 26, raising his hands through the window as Stafford and Greenhouse opened fire.

Greenhouse was also charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder and is scheduled to go on trial in June.

White Murderer Released After Pulling Unarmed Black Man From Car and Shooting Him

I haven’t carried my guns in a long time…I do now. First Trumpazoid who crosses me with some off the wall shit…Is a dead man.

White man who gunned down black ex-NFL player in road rage case released without charges

Ronald Gasser (Nick M./Twitter)

A man who shot and killed a former NFL player during an apparent road rage incident has been released without charges.

Joe McKnight, a former New Orleans high school star, was shot dead about 3 p.m. Thursday during an argument at an intersection in Terrytown, reported The Times-Picayune.

A witness said she saw a man, later identified as 54-year-old Ronald Gasser, yelling at the 28-year-old McKnight, who was attempting to apologize.

Witnesses said Gasser, who is white, pulled McKnight, who is black, from his Audi, argued with him and then shot him more than once as he stood over him.

“I told you not to f*ck with me,” Gasser said, before firing once more at McKnight as he lay on the ground.

McKnight, who last played in the NFL in 2014, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gasser was taken to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for questioning but was released overnight without charges, reported The Advocate.

Deputies said the fatal shooting remains under investigation.

Investigators said McKnight, who was named the Times-Picayune’s male athlete of the decade in 2009 after a standout career at John Curtis Christian School, was not armed at the time of his death.

No other guns were found outside his vehicle.

Witnesses said Gasser and McKnight had exchanged words before the confrontation at the intersection of Behrman Highway and Holmes Boulevard.

Louisiana’s “stand your ground” law permits deadly force if the shooter believes they’re in imminent danger of death or great bodily harm.

Cardell Hayes, who fatally shot NFL player Will Smith earlier in April in another New Orleans road rage case, is expected to claim self-defense under that statute, which was passed in 2005.

8-year-old hospitalized after beating by white bullies who told his sister ‘go back to the cotton farm’

Jordan and J’Niaha Jackson -- via Facebook

An 8-year-old African American boy was hospitalized after bullies attacked him and his younger sister on November 14, the Atlanta Black Star reports. The incident occurred at the Spanish Lake Primary School in Geismar, Louisiana. Now, the family is seeking help with medical expenses.

Jordan Jackson was defending his 4-year-old sister from a group of older children — all of whom were white, and one of whom was 13 — who were throwing mulch at them. The two Jacksons appear to be victims of a racially-motivated attack.

When Jordan asked the kids to stop, one of the kids told him, “You need to go back to the cotton farm.” He was then pushed to the ground and body slammed.

Jordan was hospitalized with a broken arm and a concussion that later led to “post-concussion syndrome,” which includes symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, and insomnia, among others.

Jordan’s uncle, Cris Colbert created a GoFundMe page to help pay for Jackson’s medical expenses. He wrote on behalf of his sister Alana, that Jordan “understands the connotation of that statement [made my the bullies] because we’ve had those conversations before.”

The school reportedly informed the Jackson family that they were sorry but were not liable because the incident occurred after official school hours and also involved at least one person who was not a student of the school.

The page also notes that Jordan has made three trips to the emergency room since the incident due to his post-concussion syndrome.

The page initially sought to raise $5,000 for Jackson’s hospital bills, but raised just over $18,300 in only three days. One person shared, “I am so deeply saddened that these kinds of things still happen and that there is such hate and prejudice in the world.”

Another person who donated to the page wrote, “Get better soon little boy and know that there are millions of Americans that are NOT racist and that you deserve to have the best life possible.”

The New Jim Crow – Louisiana Makes It Illegal for Immigrants to Marry

If you are wondering about the sort of America the alt-right and Trumpazoids would put in place – look no further than Louisiana’s new Jim Crow Marriage law.

Louisiana isn’t letting immigrants get married

For an illustration of how cruel the country’s latest wave of nativism has grown, look to Louisiana.

Here, a little-noticed new state law has effectively made it illegal for thousands of refugees to get married.

It all started last year. Having lost the fight over gay marriage, the state’s religious right decided that the sacred institution of wedlock was once again under attack — this time, by devious immigrants. Undocumented workers and even terrorists had newly discovered they could exploit Louisiana’s marriage laws to gain citizenship, legislators claimed, leading to a supposed epidemic of “marriage fraud.”

The response? Make it more difficult for immigrants to get married, of course.

So, as of this year, any foreign-born person wanting to get married in Louisiana must produce both an unexpired visa (even though a federal court has ruled that marriage licenses cannot be denied based on immigration status), as well as, somewhat inexplicably, a birth certificate.

No birth certificate, no marriage, no excuses.

The law has indeed placed marriage off-limits to immigrants in the country illegally, as intended. But it’s hurt plenty of legal immigrants, too. Louisiana is home to thousands of refugees, predominantly Vietnamese and Laotians who received asylum in the 1970s and 1980s after fleeing war and communism in their homelands.

Today these Louisianans often have green cards and even U.S. citizenship, but no access to their original birth documents, if such documents even exist.

The law received little attention when it went into effect in January. Which means people such as Out Xanamane often learn about it only when they get turned away at the courthouse.

Xanamane was born in a village near Savannakhet, Laos, in 1975, the year the country fell to communism. Born at home, he never received a birth certificate.

He remembers little of his early childhood, except that there were bombs and land mines everywhere. In the decade before his birth, the U.S. military dropped 2 million tons of explosives on the tiny nation, making the country one of the most heavily bombed per capita in history.

Xanamane’s family arrived in Louisiana in 1986, after spending time in refugee camps in Thailand and the Philippines. He has lived in the United States ever since and is now a U.S. permanent resident in the process of applying for citizenship.

It wasn’t until he got sick this summer that his lack of birth certificate was ever an issue.

In July, he was diagnosed with liver cancer, the same illness that claimed his brother’s life two years ago. The diagnosis meant a lot of changes for his family, the most pressing of which was he really, really needed the state to recognize his marriage.

Xanamane and his significant other, U.S.-born citizen Marilyn Cheng, were married in a Buddhist temple in 1997. But like many in the local Laotian community, they never sought an official marriage license, and never felt they needed to. They have called each other “husband” and “wife” for two decades, have four children and assumed they probably had a common-law marriage at the very least.

They didn’t; Louisiana doesn’t recognize common-law marriage.

The couple discovered this when Cheng’s employer, under whose health-insurance plan Xanamane was covered for the past two years, abruptly asked for a copy of their marriage license after bills for his cancer treatments came in. Suddenly all the marriage-related legal protections they’d taken for granted — health coverage, hospital visitation rights, Social Security survivor benefits — vanished.

Within days they went to the courthouse, armed with Xanamane’s green card, refugee documents and driver’s license. Twice they were turned away.

“They told me I have to go back to Laos and get my birth certificate,” said Xanamane, who has never returned to his country of birth. “But there isn’t any birth certificate there, either.”… Read the rest Here

Louisiana Cops Chump Out On Their Duty In Response to HS Protest

I don’t think the oath of office cops take in Louisiana says they only get to protect those people they like.

Chickenshit.

All of the Cops who refuse…Should be fired. They don’t deserve to wear the uniform.

Bonnabel High School players kneel during national anthem (Facebook)

Louisiana deputies throw tantrum after teen football players protest national anthem

Sheriff’s deputies in Louisiana have determined a high school football team isn’t worthy of their protection after many players protested police brutality by kneeling during “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

A majority of the players from Bonnabel High School’s varsity football team declined to participate in the national anthem before last week’s game, and a photograph of their protest gained widespread attention, reported WVUE-TV.

The superintendent of Jefferson Parish Schools said he was “taken aback at first,” but he understands the students are acting within their legal rights to refrain from standing during the national anthem.

“They do have a right, and legally we do not have any right to punish or offer any sanctions against the team or team members,” said Isaac Joseph, the superintendent.

But sheriff’s deputies disagree and are refusing to provide security at the school’s games to punish the team for their expression.

“My understanding is, we’ve had some officers that said they will not work the Bonnabel High football games,” said Sheriff Newell Normand. “I understand why, in light of Colin Kaepernick’s comments, specifically when he says, ‘Cops are getting paid leave for killing people.’ That’s not right, that’s not right by anyone’s standards. The fact of the matter is we risk our lives each and every day for the safety and security of our constituency throughout this country.”

Normand said some of his deputies are refusing to sign up for the voluntary security detail.

“The same way that the Bonnabel players have every right to kneel during the national anthem, my officers have every right not to volunteer to work the Bonnabel high school football game,” said the Jefferson Parish sheriff.

He’s sure there will be enough deputies to work the extra security detail and he won’t allow the school to go without protection, but Normand won’t force deputies to work if they feel disrespected by the students’ protest.

“That fuels the disappointment in my officers when they see this happen, and I can fully understand their disappointment and frustration,” Normand said. “When they’re on the clock and they’re working for me, they’ve got to do what they’ve got to do, because that’s what they’re hired to do. That’s not what this is – this is a voluntary detail where they volunteer to work this extra detail separate and apart from what they’re hired to do.”

He said the refusal is no different than when deputies decline to work security details for concerts or events if they disagree with the artist or message.

Bill Maher – Democrat State Economies vs Republican States

This is truly funny…And true.  Republican controlled states  which have implemented the tax cut, destroy public services mantra are in free fall economically. The two most prominent examples of which are Kansas and Louisiana. Even in those states which have good economies such as North Carolina, Republicans rip the wheels off, passing one stupid law after another like the anti-LGBT laws which still may cost North Carolina billions more.

Painting Injustice in Louisiana

This one starts with the case of Mac Phipps, jailed in a state, Louisiana,  that incarcerates more of it’s citizens than any country in the world since Pol Pot’s Cambodia.

Her Son Is In Prison, And She Paints The Faces Of A Broken Justice System

The brushstrokes in Sheila Phipps‘ paintings tell the story of a broken criminal justice system in Louisiana — a state notorious for having the highest incarceration rate in the world.

It’s a mission that Phipps, a visual artist who’s been painting since the 1980s, took up after her son, McKinley “Mac” Phipps, a former No Limit hip-hop artist, wassentenced to 30 years in prison for a 2000 nightclub shooting.

“My son was wrongfully convicted in 2001 and is now serving time for a crime he didn’t commit,” Sheila Phipps said.

The visual artist said that in the beginning she could barely face the pain of her son spending such a large portion of his life behind bars. To cope, she went to her art room, took a brush in hand, and in a series of meticulous strokes captured the element missing from her life — her son — on canvas.

“I was frustrated, and it helped me deal with the stress of everything,” Phipps told The Huffington Post.

When Phipps finished the painting of her son, she initially viewed it as a personal accomplishment. After all, it was intended to be therapeutic — a brief escape from the harsh reality of the situation. However, an emptiness remained. It prompted her to capture not only her son’s story but also those of other inmates in Louisiana who are in similar situations.

“I knew my son was not the only one who was a victim of the criminal justice system,” she said. “So I started to research other cases where individuals were convicted with questionable evidence or received excessive sentences.”

Phipps said her son ultimately became the inspiration behind her series of portraits of incarcerated men. Although she never intended her personal expression for public view, she gradually began showing her paintings as they emerged, gathering them in a series titled “Injustice Xhibition.”

The exhibit features seven incarcerated men: McKinley “Mac” Phipps Jr., Warren Scott III, Jerome “Skee” Smith, Earl Truvia, Stanley Stirgus, Rogers LaCaze Sr., and Jamil Joyner. …Read More Here

Louisiana May Have to Close State Universities Due to Republican Deficit Disaster

Republicans signing the Grover Norquest tax reduction plan have now failed utterly and disastriously in at least 3 States. Republican Governor Bobby Jindal took a state budget surplus to deficit levels never seen before. Things got so bad under Jindal and his Republican led legislature, they had to pawn the state owned vehicles at auction to keep the lights on.

Faced with a cash flow issue as the legislature tries desperately to recover funds through tax increases and revenue proposals back to the level required for basic services – the current proposal to cover the massive shortfall includes the decision to close the State Colleges and Universities, the largest of which is Louisiana Tech. Further – shutting down some hospitals in the state.

This sort of tax-slashing myopia and adherence to Republican Orthodoxy has now had serious impacts in 3 states, including Kansas, which had to shut down the Public School System last year, and Michigan where thousands were poisoned by the water in Flint.

Watch Rachel Maddow’s summary below – and the emergency speech by Louisiana’s new Democrat Governor, who has been in office less than a month.

Governor John Bel Edwards who has an uphill battle to get his Republican led legislature to see the light…

Cracks in the Wall – Louisiana Sheriff Schools Fellow Republicans…Bats**t Crazy!

This is the Sheriff of Jefferson Parish, Louisiana – a Republican. Ran across him post-Katrina when working on trying to get the systems back up, when he worked for Harry Lee, the former Sheriff. He is a bright guy, and at least to my limited impression of him – a straight shooter. He is well educated and intelligent.

What Sheriff Newell Normand represents is the growing faction of the Republican Party who is getting tired of the same old tired answers, and massive tax cuts leading to debt resulting in massive cutting of community services run up in just about every state where there is a Republican majority in the legislature…And hobbling his state, Louisiana after Bobby Jindal’s disastrous governorship. What Jindal and his fellow Republicans have done to the state following bankrupt Republican orthodoxy are in some ways worse than Katrina.

Yet another sign that the poisoned Kool-Aid isn’t going down anymore.

GOP sheriff unleashes a stunning take down of Republicans—a party of ‘cult leaders’ and ‘idiots’

Republican Sheriff Newell Normand might be a good ol’ boy from Jefferson Parish in Louisiana, but that didn’t stop him from lobbing a dose of reality at the Metropolitan Crime Commission’s annual awards luncheon on Tuesday. According to a video of the speech posted by WUVE, Normand bad-mouthed the GOP’s Beltway establishment and elected officials, notorious tax cutter Grover Norquist and called former Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal an “idiot,” equating him to cult leader Jim Jones.

Normand fully admits that he endorsed and supported Jindal when he ran for governor, but that Jindal’s leadership destroyed the state that Normand holds dear. “What a mess. Bobby Jindal was a better cult leader than Jim Jones,” he said to laughter and applause from the audience. “We drank the elixir for eight years. We remained in a conscious state. We walked to the edge of the cliff and we jumped off and he watched us and guess what? Unlike Jim Jones he did not swallow the poison. What a shame.”

Normand accused Jindal of working after his reign to rewrite history when the rest of the state doesn’t “even know what history is.” Much like other states with Republican governors like Kansas and Oklahoma, Louisiana faces a substantial budget shortfall, to the tune of $2.5 billion. Jindal is telling the world that he did a phenomenal job as governor and Normand is furious about it.

“We have to just say no!” Normand said. “I’m a Republican but I’m not a hypocrite. We have to look at ourselves critically as a party and figure out where we are and what we’re going to be about.” He admitted to the audience that he was partly at fault because he “endorsed that idiot,” but said that it was time to move toward solutions. Due to the budget problems, Normand says that the state will be cutting funding to mental health which causes more problems for law enforcement officers. The state also plans to close five state prisons that houses 8,000 inmates.

He even denounced following the policy recommendations of Grover Norquist, who makes Republican candidates sign a pledge not to raise taxes. “We better get concerned. We better wake up. We better be honest,” Normand said. “We better talk about the issues because we are going to pay the price.” He continued saying that the state cannot cut its way to a balanced budget because doing so will cut the resources necessary for law enforcement officers like him to do their job safely and effectively. “We do not need to face the stupidity of our leadership as it relates to how we’re going to face balancing this budget and talking about these silly issues because we’re worried about what Grover Norquist thinks. To hell with Grover Norquist! I don’t care about Grover Norquist!” he said to audience applause. “We’re worried about the ATR report card,” he said, referencing Norquist’s group Americans for Tax Reform.

When it comes to the Republican party in Washington, D.C., Normand wants them to stop attacking. He cited Medicaid expansion which would cover the cost for things like drug addiction and mental health that officers often witness on the streets and in prisons. “And I have to listen to my Republican counterparts talk about gobbledigook. Blah, blah blah… And I’m so sick and tired of hearing: Obama, Obama, Obama. You know how much intellect it takes to blame something on somebody else? This much!” he said holding his hand up to indicate zero. “Propose a solution. Work together.” He closed by comparing politics to being married and asked how many people in the audience refuse to compromise in their marriages.

Lindsay Graham, the Republican Senator from South Carolina puts it more succinctly…

Lindsey Graham: GOP Is ‘Batsh*t Crazy’

As the five remaining Republican presidential contenders battled it out in the Houston debate Thursday night, former candidate Lindsey Graham entertained a crowd at the Washington Press Club’s annual congressional dinner with his true feelings on the 2016 race. “My party has gone batshit crazy,” Graham told the crowd. The South Carolina senator lashed out at GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, adding that he thinks the billionaire will lose in the general election “because he’s just generally a loser as a person and a candidate,” he said. Making light of his own failed campaign and subsequent endorsement of Jeb Bush, who dropped out on Saturday, Graham called himself the Dr. Jack Kevorkian of the Republican primary—before putting on a Trump hat.

Bobby Jindal Drops Out Of The 2016 Presidential Race

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) ended his presidential campaign on Tuesday.

“I’ve come to the realization that this is not my time, so I’ve come here to announce that I am suspending my campaign for president of the United States,” he told Fox News’ Bret Baier.

Jindal, who entered the presidential race in June, has remained near the back of the Republican pack since then. In recent months, his persistently low polling numbers relegated him to the smaller televised events (AKA the KIddie Table) that preceded each of the main GOP debates.

Republicans to Jindal, “We already got our Minority…It ain’t you.”

Cops Who KIlled 6 YO in Louisiana Caught In a Web of Lies

Kind of amazing how Law enforcement can suddenly police itself when the wrong sort of person is killed. This article makes a few novice assumptions, It really isn’t surprising that the level of scrutiny is extraordinarily different in this case – than say the case of the man tasered to death while in handcuffs and shackles in Virginia, I wrote about in a previous post. The difference, quite simply…Is the race of the victim.

The Death of Jeremy Mardis and the Honesty of the Police

The officers who shot and killed a 6-year-old in Louisiana had been sued multiple times, and officials have now accused them of lying about every relevant detail of the incident.

Any time police shoot and kill a 6-year-old, there are bound to be tough questions. And officers in Louisiana had answers about the death of Jeremy Mardis on November 3.

They said that Mardis’s death was a tragic accident that occurred when police tried to serve a warrant on the boy’s father, Chris Few. They said Few had resisted that warrant. When he’d been cornered on a dead-end road after a chase, they said, he had tried to reverse and hit the officers. Then there was an exchange of gunshots, and Jeremy—buckled into the front seat—was tragically caught in the crossfire.

Yet almost none of that turned out to be true.

There appear to have been no outstanding warrants for Few. No gun was found in his truck. Officials said while two of the officers had claimed Few reversed his SUV and tried to ram them, that wasn’t actually true. When officials reviewed body-cam footage of the incident, they found Few actually had his arms in the air when the officers unloaded the barrage on the car. (Few survived the shooting that killed his son.)

“This was not a threatening situation for the police,”said Mark Jeansonne, Few’s attorney. Colonel Mike Edmonson, the superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, affirmed that after watching the footage.

“I’m not gonna talk about it, but I’m gonna tell you this,” he said. “It is the most disturbing thing I’ve seen and I will leave it at that …. As a father, much less the head of the State Police, [it was] extremely disturbing.”

That’s part of the reason, he said, they were charging the officers involved. Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse Jr., who have been charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree, were working as city marshals; Stafford is also a Marksville police officer, while Greenhouse is a reserve officer. Two other marshals were also involved in the chase, and one of them was wearing the body camera that captured the shooting. That footage has not been released to the public.

The district attorney’s decision to charge them, and Edmonson’s comments, are an encouraging sign. Police are seldom charged in fatal shootings, and when they are, they are seldom convicted. There’s been a slight increase in the number of police charged this year, though experts say it’s too soon to tell whether that’s a result of closer scrutiny of police or simply a statistical blip.

Much of the attention given to Mardis’s death has been on the role of body cameras. Because the incident was caught on film, the officers’ accounts were debunked, and it’s clear from Edmonson’s comments that reviewing the footage had a strong effect on his own decision. There’s much that’s still unknown about how body cameras will effect policing and justice, and while this case is a single incident, the fact real footage can take the place of unreliable witness testimony is positive.

That’s an appropriate and important way to think about the story, but it’s not the only one. Another is about the honesty and trustworthiness of the police. Since the nation grants the police a near-monopoly on the use of deadly force, it’s important that officers be honest, reliable, and trustworthy. In the Mardis case, all signs so far suggest officers did not meet that standard.

Consider all the discrepancies in the case: the apparently nonexistent warrant, the story of Few resisting and trying to ram the marshals, the supposed threat to the officers, the suggestion that Few had hired a gun. The officers involved are alleged to have lied about the incident, and Edmonson also expressed concern about two of the officers’ refusal to speak to police. “It’s more concerning the longer it takes to talk to us,” he said. “All we want to know is what happened.” When The Guardian asked why they hadn’t been interviewed, Edmonson replied: “You’d have to ask them. We are trying to talk with them.” (It appears the shooting occurred amid a turf war between the city marshal and the police department, complicating matters.)

Both Stafford and Greenhouse had been subject to multiple prior complaints—what the Associated Press characterized as “a string of civil lawsuits.” Stafford was sued for two incidents in 2012, one in which he allegedly shocked a woman with a stun gun while she was handcuffed and another in which he was accused of breaking a girl’s arm while breaking up a fight on a school bus. In 2014, a jury awarded $50,000 to a man who said Stafford had arrested him as payback for filing a complaint against him. Stafford was indicted twice for rape in 2011. In one of those cases, he was charged with raping a 15-year-old in 2004. Both charges were dismissed, but it’s not clear why…Read More Here

Louisiana Officer Charged In SUV Shooting KIlling 6 YO Boy

This one has an interesting twist, which explains the rapid charging of the officers involved…

2 Louisiana Officers Charged With Second-Degree Murder in Killing of Boy, 6

The young victim – Jeremy Mardis

Two police officers have been arrested on charges of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy during a pursuit of his father in a sport utility vehicle in central Louisiana, the state police said Friday.

The officers, Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Lt. Derrick Stafford, who were placed on administrative leave after the chase on Tuesday, also face charges of attempted second-degree murder, Col. Michael Edmonson, superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, said during a news conference on Friday.

The father, Chris Few, who was driving, was critically injured in the shooting. Mr. Few’s son, Jeremy Mardis, was killed after the police opened fire on the S.U.V.

The coroner said the boy was struck several times in the head and chest. An autopsy was performed on Wednesday, but a final report was not expected to be ready for eight weeks.

“He didn’t deserve to die like that and that’s what’s important,” Colonel Edmonson said Friday. “That little boy was buckled in the front seat of that vehicle and that was how he died.”

Colonel Edmonson said that over the past 72 hours, investigators had studied footage from body cameras, interviewed witnesses and listened to 911 recordings. He promised a “methodical and detail oriented investigation.”

He declined to say why the police began pursuing Mr. Few’s vehicle, or what caused them to open fire.

Describing the body camera footage, Colonel Edmonson said, “I can tell you as a father it was one of the most disturbing things I have witnessed.”

Two other police officers were involved in the chase, in addition to Officer Greenhouse and Lieutenant Stafford, the superintendent said, but he declined to say whether either of the other officers was suspected of wrongdoing.

He said investigators would follow the case “wherever this takes us” and that the state police had seized guns from all officers present during the shooting.

All four are officers with the Marksville, La., police who work part time as city marshals.

Norris Greenhouse Jr., left, and Lt. Derrick Stafford.

So THAT’s what it takes to see justice when a policeman wrongly kills a citizen.

Your Police Force on KKKrack

And you have to wonder why they fired this moron? And those sheets he is wearing have nothing to do with racism!

Louisiana Police Officer Is Upset That He Was Fired for Attending KKK Rally

A Lake Arthur, Louisiana, police officer named Raymond Mott is upset that he was fired for attending a Ku Klux Klan rally and plans to sue over his dismissal, area ABC affiliate KATC reports. Mott was photographed at a rally in North Carolina in 2014 wearing Klan insignia and holding his left hand up in a Klan salute:

“The picture speaks for itself,” said Mott. “I’m standing at a rally against illegal immigration. There’s not much to be said about the picture. I’ve never denied it was me.”

From the Southern Poverty Law Center’s writeup on a piece in the local Jennings Daily News that’s paywalled:

“I have never even had a negative write-up in my file since my start in law enforcement as a reserve in 2006,” Mott told the Jennings newspaper.  “I am not going to quit my job because I made a decision to support a cause I thought was right at the time – illegal immigration not racism,” he added.

Conservatives and False Equivalencies -Bobbity Jundal Goes Splat…Again

Bobby Jindal years ago as a Congressman was a pretty good politician. Met him after Katrina as part of the cleanup and recovery effort. He helped cut through the Bush Administration incompetence and racism, and helped forge a bipartisan coalition to help his State, Louisiana. So it really wasn’t a surprise to see him elected as Governor of the State, despite his disastrous Republican reply to the State of the Union. Somewhere along the way Jindal lost it, and became an idealogue. He has been a disaster for the school system in Louisiana, which already ranked as one of the nation’s worst – he has utterly cratered the State Budget with superfluous tax giveaways putting the State more than $2 billion, and bleeding over $500 million a year…And he has jumped, both feet in – to the culture wars.

He is now regarded by many as a failure as Governor, an ineffective speaker, and a bobblehead who continuously says stupid things that alienate people.

Bobbity is so bad, his polling against the rest of the Republican Clown Bus vying for the nomination to run for President…Is at 0%.

So now he jumps into the False Equivalency game in a desperate attempt to gain even a smidgen of relevancy.

The False Equivalency game is one played almost daily in conservative press and on Faux News. You’ve heard it, I am sure…

That somehow the murder of a white woman in San Francisco by an illegal immigrant likely for financial gain…

Is the same as Charleston, where a State Congressman and Minister, and 7 others were murdered in their Church the name of starting a “race war” by a white supremacist.

That black on black murder is somehow more of an issue than the murder of unarmed black youth by Police, who are supposedly there to protect them and maintain the law.

That the killing of a US Ambassador in Benghazi under Obama somehow is indicative of a failure of the Administration, and is far worse than the killing of 17 Americans in the Bombing of an Embassy In Lebanon in 1983, and the bombing of a Marine Barracks which killed 242 Marines under Reagan… Not to mention over 20 similar attacks against American Diplomats and Trade Representatives under the Bushit.

Bobby Jindal should just shut up: His simple-minded, dishonest Chattanooga comments make things worse

Bobbity’s Duck Dynasty Base

Among the first GOP candidates to comment on the tragic shooting in Chattanooga, Tennessee, was Bobby Jindal. His response was every bit as trite and empty as you’d expect it to be. In an exclusive interview with Breitbart.com, Jindal said:

“It’s time for the White House to wake up and tell the truth…and the truth is that Radical Islam is at war with us, and we must start by being honest about that. There have been many bad things that have happened under President Obama. One that stands out to me was the horrible shooting at Ft. Hood…which was clearly an act of terrorism by a Radical Islamist. Yet the White House labeled that horrible act as ‘workplace violence.’ This is grotesque. You cannot defeat evil until you admit that it exists.”

This statement is remarkably simpleminded and dishonest. In what sense has the White House failed to “tell the truth” about terrorism? Like so many Republicans, Jindal is obsessed with the superficial; he’s intentionally oblivious to what Obama has actually done. Obama has made it fairly clear that we’re at war with terrorists, especially Islamic terrorists. He’s been far more effective, in fact, than the previous Republican administration at finding and killing said terrorists (remember bin Laden?).

What’s dishonest about Jindal’s statement is the implication that what happened in Chattanooga is a policy failure on the part of Obama. That’s not at all the case. A man decided to sacrifice his life in order to kill other people. Just as the officer at Fort Hood decided, on his own, to kill innocent people. The truth is that there’s no real defense against that. Life in a free society involves certain risks. All the armies in the world can’t stop a lone gunman before he fires the first shot. This notion that if we dropped more bombs abroad or tightened immigration standards, we’d somehow be immune from attacks of this kind is a Republican fantasy, one no thinking person believes.

When something like this happens, our response should be simple: deal with it and carry on. Terrorism is a tactic — it’s not defeatable. The best we can do is limit the conditions that breed terrorists while fighting them when and where we must, which is what Obama has done since taking office. Exaggerating every isolated attack into an apocalyptic threat plays perfectly into the enemy’s narrative. Yet that’s exactly what Jindal does. Indeed, he warned that yesterday’s shooting (again, perpetrated by one man) is a reminder that we’re being colonized by Muslims.

“What’s not acceptable is people that want to come and conquer us. That’s not immigration, by the way, that’s colonization,” Jindal said. This is preposterously stupid on every level. Yes, we’re in a real war. Yes, there are Muslim extremists that want to kill us. And yes, we have to take that seriously. But America isn’t being colonized. Suggesting otherwise is dangerous and needlessly alarmist.

The worst thing we can do, the thing Republicans often do, is blame a single person or party for a terrible and ultimately unavoidable attack. Republicans understand this when it’s the other way around. The logic Jindal uses to pin this attack on Obama applies equally to Bush during 9/11. Indeed, by any measure, the Bush administration was infinitely more responsible for that incident, as it involved dozens of people and months of preparation to which they remained blind. Can you imagine the GOP’s response if a Democratic candidate for president said, the day after 9/11, that it was Bush’s fault, that 3,000 people died because he failed to take terrorism seriously? True or not, they’d have considered that treasonous, at the very least.

Bobbity long ago crossed over into The Donald’s territory… And should be treated a Comedy (as the Donald is by a growing number of News sources) or Political Theater instead of any serious candidate.

Daring Rescue By Family in Louisiana Kidnapping

In one of those rare instances where things actually work out, members of a kidnapped woman’s family were able to save her life, after efforts by the police failed.

This one also goes under “benefits of a big family”, as over 20 of Bethany Arceneaux’s relatives joined in the search to find her after she disappeared, and kept looking after Police had given up for the day.

A bloodied and battered Bethany Arceneaux is carried from the car to the hospital by her cousin Marceus Arceneaux. Police have withheld the name of the Cousin who rescued her from her kidnapper apparently seconds before he killed her.

Kidnapped woman rescued by cousin in Louisiana, police said

A woman who had been kidnapped two days earlier was found Friday with multiple stab wounds inside an abandoned house in Louisiana — and freed by family members in a daring operation, police said.

The man who allegedly held her hostage for 30 hours in a vacant home in Duson, La., was shot and killed by the woman’s cousin as he rescued her, police said.

Authorities of the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office had been searching for Bethany Arceneaux, 29, since late Wednesday, after her car was found abandoned outside her child’s day care center, Capt. Kip Judice told NBC News.

Judice said police believed Scott Thomas, 29, the father of Arceneaux’s son, was the abductor. The two had domestic troubles, and Arceneaux had a restraining order against Thomas, Judice added.

The woman’s family decided to look for Arceneaux themselves. On Friday, about 20 relatives formed a search party and began to search on foot, Judice said.

Arceneaux’s cousin heard cries coming from an abandoned home in a sugar field about 10 miles from where the woman was last seen.

Armed with a gun, the man forced his way into the home. As the cousin made his way through the house, Thomas allegedly stabbed Arceneaux several times. The cousin then fired several shots at Thomas and then fled with Arceneaux, Judice said.

The woman confirmed to authorities that her cousin shot Thomas as Thomas was stabbing her.

Arceneaux is undergoing treatment at the Lafayette General Medical Center and is in good condition, Judice said.

Police found Thomas dead in the vacant home. He had allegedly held Arceneaux at knifepoint for 30 hours before she was rescued, Judice added.

Arceneaux’s cousin is not in police custody and has not been charged with a crime. He is cooperating with authorities, Judice said.

Under Louisiana law, a justifiable homicide statute allows an individual to defend himself as well as others he feels are in danger, which includes great bodily harm or death, police said.
