Republican Off the Reservation! Grassley Slams Trump/Sessions

Oh Yeah!

This joint is on fire. Senator Grassley of Iowa hammers the Chumph cabal for denying information requests by Democrats.

It is a violation of The Separation of Powers clause in the Constitution, and in itself may be an Impeachable Act.

GOP Senator Slams DOJ Legal Opinion As ‘Nonsense’ That ‘Floods The Swamp’

Charles Grassley’s letter is another sign of Republicans’ growing frustration with Trump.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley (R) blasted President Donald Trump’s White House legal team this week for attempting to limit Congress’ ability to obtain information from the Executive Branch of government.

“This is nonsense,” Grassley said in a 7-page letter dated June 7 that accuses the White House’s legal handlers of violating the separation of powers and attempting an end run around the checks and balances that allow the co-equal branches of the U.S. government to function.

The letter is a scathing denunciation of a May 1 opinion issued by the White House’s Office of Legal Counsel (OLC) that would allow the president, vice president and their respective staffers to ignore any requests for information that do not come directly from the chairmen of Congressional committees.

The opinion was authored by Acting Assistant Attorney General Curtis E. Gannon and Grassley said it “completely misses the mark.”

“It erroneously rejects any notion that individual members of Congress who may not chair a relevant committee need to obtain information from the Executive Branch in order to carry out their Constitutional duties,” Grassley said. “It falsely asserts that only requests from committees or their chairs are ‘constitutionally authorized,’ and relegates requests from non-Chairmen to the position of ‘non-oversight’ inquiries — whatever that means.”

The senator continued, “For OLC to so fundamentally misunderstand and misstate such a simple fact exposes its shocking lack of professionalism and objectivity. Indeed, OLC appears to have utterly failed to live up to its own standards. You are being ill-served and ill advised.”

All members of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate should have the power to make requests and to obtain whatever information they need from the Executive Branch, Grassley said, in order to maintain accountability.

“The powers vested in the Congress — both explicitly and inherently by the Constitution —
impose significant and far-reaching responsibilities on the people’s elected representatives,” he said. “They include the authorization and appropriation of federal funds, the organization of federal departments, the enactment of laws executing the enumerated powers, the confirmation of nominees, the impeachment and removal of officers, and the investigation of the execution of the laws and of waste, fraud, and abuse in federal programs. These responsibilities are all forms of oversight, all mechanisms that support the legislative check and balance of the executive power. All members participate in deciding whether, when, and how Congress will exercise these authorities.”

By selectively deciding who it will and will not respond to, Grassley said, the Executive Branch is striking a blow against transparency, discouraging bipartisanship and hurting the American people’s representatives’ ability to do their job. Furthermore, he said, information requests are not just subpoenas and hostile inquiries. They are how Congress gets the materials it needs to make decisions about budgets and other matters.

He concluded by asking that the OLC rescind its May 1 request “and any policy of ignoring oversight request from non-Chairmen. It harms not just the Members who happen to be in the minority party at the moment, but also, Members in the majority party who are not currently Chairmen. It obstructs what ought to be the natural flow of information between agencies and the committees, which frustrates the Constitutional function of legislating.”

President Richard Nixon – American Racism Will Put the World in Russian Hands

58 Years ago then Vice President Richard Nixon wrote a letter in which he claimed America’s biggest weakness was racism, and it would cede control of he world to Russia…

He was right.

He just didn’t count on his own Party’s Treason.

Former Vice President, and later President Nixon

Newly discovered 1959 letter: Nixon feared American racism would drive world into the arms of the Russians

The history of United States’ relationship with the Russians has been marked by a delicate balancing act between internal political ramifications and external international relations goals.

In the last hundred years, the US and the Russians fought two world wars as allies and waged a long Cold War as adversaries. Following the Bolshevik Revolution, there was a Red Scare domestically and a second Red Scare following the end of World War II.

A newly surfaced letter from Richard Nixon was written against such a backdrop. The 1959 letter was written on official Office of the Vice President stationary and was addressed to Mrs. M. S. Richardson in La Grange, North Carolina on the subject of school integration.

In the letter, Nixon made the case that domestic American racism could help the Russians win the Cold War.

“I am deeply concerned with the impact of racial division in terms of world power,” Nixon wrote. “Most of the people of the world belong to the colored races. They deeply resent any slurs based on race.”

“If we of the United States are considered racists, then we may lose to the Communist camp hundreds of millions of potential friends and allies,” Nixon explained. “That would leave us disastrously isolated in a hostile world.”

The letter will be auctioned off on Tuesday, May 9 by Alexander Historical Auctions. The auction house estimates a sale of $4,000 between $5,000.

At the time, Nixon also focused on his moral opposition to racism.

“Praise or blame, acceptance or rejection, should be personal matters based on individual achievement and not the accident of color or birth,” he wrote. “I could not accept Hitler’s idea of a master race. I cannot accept the equally false principle of an inferior race.”

Between his unsuccessful 1960 presidential campaign and his successful 1968 presidential campaign, Richard Nixon famously embraced the “Southern Strategy” of exploiting racial divisions for reasons of political expediency.

Last year, the New Republic published a piece explaining how decades of Republicans embracing a Southern Strategy led to Donald Trump’s domination of GOP primaries.

“Goldwater’s Southern Strategy, inspired by National Review, set a pattern for the next half-century—and more. The party had changed so much in 1964 that even Nixon, who had been liberal on civil rights before the Goldwater takeover, adopted the Southern Strategy in 1968 and 1972, “the New Republic contextualized. “Dixie would be the new heartland for the Republican Party, which would stoke white resentment over African-American advances.”

Since Nixon’s 1968 campaign, Sourthern racism has been integral to conservative political ideology.

Notorious Republican campaign consultant Lee Atwater famously explained the dog whistle politics that defined the 1968 campaign.

” You start out in 1954 by saying, “N*gger, n*gger, n*gger.” By 1968 you can’t say “n*gger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract,” Atwater told Alexander Lamis, a political scientist at Case Western Reserve University. “Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N*gger, n*gger.””

Nixon’s shift on racism, from moral opposition to political expediency, foretold the trend we have witnessed in the last year as Republican moral opposition to the Russians has shifted to a position of political opportunism.

Nixon’s 1959 letter is a powerful data point in the story of how the Republican Party has reacted to both racism and the Russians.

Threats Begin in Response to Trump Fascism

The problem with encouraging a culture of violence by your supporters as a politician…Is at some point it comes back to bite you in the ass. At this point it is impossible to tell whether the threat to Trump’s grandchildren came from the left or right.

Trump Family Threatened

Threatening letter sent to Donald Trump’s son, Eric

The Secret Service, FBI and New York Police Department are investigating what sources tell CBS News is a threatening piece of mail sent to Donald Trump’s son, Eric Trump.

The mail, sent to Eric Trump at his posh Manhattan residence at 100 Central Park South, also known as Trump Parc East, was opened by his wife Thursday.

A source close to the investigation said the letter had a Massachusetts postmark and warned that if Donald Trump doesn’t withdraw from the race for the Republican presidential nomination — paraphrasing — harm will come to the kids.

A source familiar with the matter said the envelope contained suspicious white powder that’s been sent to a lab for testing. The source said a preliminary field test indicated the substance didn’t appear to be hazardous.

No injuries were reported.

Women in the STEM Disciplines

As a guy who has a daughter pursuing advanced degrees in one of the Science-Technology-Engineering-Math (STEM) fields, and having spent most of my professional career in Hi-Tech – I can appreciate this one from a male Mechanical Engineering student, Jared Mauldin, at Eastern Washington University, which was published in the school paper…

Black females (as well as black males) also face the additional burden of race, and low expectations, in terms of academic performance and ability. Good to see recognition of some of this.

Ghadaffi Thanks His Supporters in the US Congress… Republicans

Ghadaffi Gives a Shout Out to His Biggest Supporters

Qaddafi Writes to Congress

No surprise here that Quadaffi knows which side his bread is buttered on. The GOP marched in lockstep once again to sell out America for a foreign dictator with oil.

Bend over, America!

Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi has written to members of Congress thanking them for criticizing President Obama last week over his involvement in the NATO-led military campaign in Libya.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for your thoughtful discussion of the issues,” Colonel Qaddafi wrote in the letter, a copy of which was supplied to The New York Times by a person seeking to defend the administration’s policy. “We are confident that history will see the wisdom of your country in debating these issues.”

Colonel Qaddafi did not refer specifically to a resolution passed by the Housethat rebuked the administration for maintaining an American role in the campaign without the consent of Congress. But he expressed hope that the lawmakers would continue to pressure the administration.

“We are counting on the United States Congress to its continued investigation of military activities of NATO and its allies to confirm what we believe is a clear violation of U.N. Security Council resolution 1973,” Colonel Qaddafi said in the three-page letter, which was not addressed to any particular lawmaker.

A spokesman for Speaker John A. Boehner, Republican of Ohio, who introduced last week’s resolution, said his office had received the letter but was not able to vouch for its authenticity. The letter was received by the administration through the same channels that Colonel Qaddafi has sent other letters, another official said.

“If authentic, this incoherent letter only reinforces that Gaddafi must go. There’s no disagreement about that,” said the spokesman for Mr. Boehner, Brendan Buck. “That’s why so many Americans have questions – which the White House refuses to answer – about the administration committing U.S. resources to an operation that doesn’t make his removal a goal.”

Iran State Sponsored Terrorisim and Mass Murder

This one could rip Iran apart, further adding fuel to the firs that the Islamic Fundamentalist Government has not only participated in International Terrorism, but committed mass murder against it’s own citizens.

A letter rumored to be written by opposition leader Mir-Hossein Mousavi 20 years ago has resurfaced and is lighting up Iran’s blogosphere. Omid Memarian on why the letter could open decades of dark secrets and bitter rivalries.

BS Top - Memarian Mousavi LetterHidden away for more than 20 years, a mystery letter suddenly reappeared last week.

The letter, supposedly written by a Tehran insider turned opposition leader, was explosive: it alleged that Iran sponsors terrorism abroad.

Like a middle manager ignored by his bosses, the letter writer expressed frustration that he was kept in the dark about Iran’s involvement in events that he described as “operations abroad.”

“After an airplane is hijacked, we are informed; After a machine gun opens fire on a street in Lebanon and its sound is heard, we learn about it; After explosives are found on our pilgrims in Jeddah, I am informed of it,” said the letter, allegedly written by Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the leader of the Green Movement that sparked massive protests after last year’s fraudulent election.

The letter is an embarrassment for the Iranian government, which has always denied involvement in terrorist attacks beyond its borders. And no matter the origin of this mysterious letter or why it suddenly reappeared, it quickly set the Iranian blogosphere on fire. And for those outside the country, it became a window on the secretive world of Iranian politics.

Mousavi was prime minister when the letter was first published and some say this was his resignation letter. After it was initially published in 1988, he disappeared from politics for decades, reinventing himself last year as the leader of the strongest opposition movement the Islamic Republic has ever seen.

Neither Mousavi nor people close to him have questioned the letter’s authenticity which was reposted by websites including, the Iranian version, making it a viral sensation.

The original recipient of the letter was President Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, who has tried to quell the demands of the so-called Green Movement that protested the results of the Iranian elections last year as fraudulent.

The letter was first published in a newspaper by the first president of the Iranian republic who today lives in exile in France. Abolhassan Banisadr re-published the letter on his website, Jomhoori Eslami (Islamic Republic), last week.

“This letter has historical significance now,” Banisadr told The Daily Beast in a telephone interview. “At the time of its initial publication it was significant, too, because it clearly stated that the Iranian regime was involved in terrorist activities abroad; that these actions were not sporadic, but that it was the Iranian government that was engaged in terrorist activities.”

Neither Khamenei nor President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has commented on the letter. But people in Iran speculate that the letter re-emerged at this moment because Mousavi was threatening to reveal secrets in connection with the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s, having been accused by current Iranian authorities of losing the war. And some hope that Mousavi’s secrecy standoff with the government might cast light on another dark moment in Iran’s history–the mass executions of political prisoners in 1988, which reportedly cost the lives of thousands of people. Within Iran, the executions are a taboo subject. But last month, Mousavi alluded to them, suggesting that his cabinet was kept in the dark.

Wife Drops Note to President Obama – Husband Gets Arrested

Bureaucracy is a monster! This poor couple got caught up in complex immigration legal wrangling…

Just for asking for help.

Man arrested after wife writes to Obama asking for help

Hervé Fonkou Takoulo and Caroline Jamieson Were Married in 2005

Not everyone expects a response when they write a letter to the president of the United States. But Caroline Jamieson got much more than she expected when her husband ended up in jail and afraid he would be deported.

Jamieson, vice president of marketing at a new-media advertising company, wrote President Barack Obama in January because her husband, Hervé Fonkou Takoulo, was facing deportation to his native Cameroon. Takoulo failed in a bid before political asylum almost a decade ago, and a judge issued a deportation order after they were married.

After he and Jamieson married on 2005, Takoulo applied for a green card based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen. But immigration law requires that the deportation order be lifted before the couple can appear before immigration officials to argue their case that the marriage is legitimate and not a ploy to legalize Takoulo’s presence in the United States.
