James Brown’s publicist Jacque Hollander has hired a private detective to investigate the circumstances of the late soul great’s death, which she suspects was a product of foul play. Hollander also claims she has been forced into hiding because of death threats she has received after publicly announcing she had hired a private eye.
According to public record, Brown suffered a fatal heart attack on Christmas Day in 2006. However, this is a scenario Hollander will not accept; she told the Globe, “James Brown did not die of a heart attack,” stating her opinion in no uncertain terms.
Hollander is also convinced that Brown’s son-in-law Darren Lumar was killed for knowing too much. Lumar was murdered in November 2008 after appearing on a local Georgia TV show where he claimed, “There’s not a bone in my body that believes my father-in-law died from congestive heart failure.”
“He was going to tell the truth about what was done to James Brown,” Hollander opined. “Now I am living in fear of my life because I’m the one who can bring forth the truth.”
The private investigator she hired seems to agree: “There’s something fishy here,” she concluded. “The evidence speaks for itself.”
This isn’t the first weird bit of controversy surrounding the death of “Mr. Dynamite.” Last year Brown’s daughter LaRhonda Pettit claimed that his body had been taken from its crypt in order to prevent an autopsy saying, “I’m convinced his death was suspicious and I want those responsible brought to justice.”
There was also the instance in which a 70-year-old man shot his friend in an argument over the height of the recently deceased singer. We hear he was 5’5″ … just saying.
Apparently there has been an internet rumor circulating at the speed of light around the Internet that James Brown’s body is missing from the crypt where he was buried on his Daughter’s property. Like a lot of rumors on the WWW, this one got around the world 43 times – before anyone got around to checking the facts.
A “Super Bad” Internet rumor is playing “I Got You” with the British tabloids, which claimed yesterday that the corpse of soul superstar James Brown was stolen, but South Carolina cops and a funeral director say the papers are “Talking Loud and Saying Nothing.”
“I have not heard that,” said the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the area where Brown was laid to rest. “I would expect we would have knowledge of such a thing.”
Charles Reid of C.A. Reid Funeral Home, who managed the 2006 burial of the Godfather of Soul in a mausoleum at his daughter’s home, said the rumor is false.
James Brown’s daughter LaRhonda Pettit reportedly said his body was missing on the eve of an autopsy meant to prove he was poisoned. The story got picked up and traveled around the world before it landed back in South Carolina, where Reid laid it to rest.
An Apopka, Florida teenager was shot four times after he was caught having sex with the shooter’s daughter, police said.
Officials said the 16-year-old girl’s stepfather walked into the girl’s bedroom and saw her having sex with her boyfriend. That’s when Wade Edwards closed the door to load a gun and then fired at the boy, police said.
“The stepfather walked up, brandished the handgun in a threatening manner and opened fire,” a police officer said.
The boy, 18-year-old Julian Harp, limped out to the front yard and called 911. Police said Edwards also called 911 and confessed to the shooting.
Investigators said it was one of the most severe crimes of passion that they’ve worked.
“In 13 years, I’ve never heard anything like this happening in this area,” one investigator said.
Neighbors said Edwards may have “overreacted” but said they understood that he wanted to protect his daughter.
“It’s a sad story, but I would do anything to protect my daughter,” said neighbor Sean Gibbons.
Harp was in the hospital Thursday night recovering from the gunshot wounds, police said.
This Video was done for one of the Rocky movies. Regardless of the over the top tackiness – the King of Soul reigned. What’s interesting about this, is while the song Hook would indicate it’s a patriotic song – it celebrates the material society, instead of values. As such, it really isn’t a patriotic song – much as the plastic patriotism evinced by the Bushsquat administration had nothing to do with American values or valuing our democracy and Constitution.
