Politicians and Cell Phones

Yet another narcissistic sanctimonious political clown blows himself up taking selfies with his mistress!

I mean, damn! I will whip out my cell phone and take a pic of my significant other person – at the winery sipping a glass of wine, or on a day out on the water…With their clothes on!

Being in the high-tech business I know damn well that anything you take on that phone is public property. That phone is connected to the world, and anything on it can be taken off of it from 10,000 miles away by a curious hacker. Even worse, some guy on the down low has got to know that at some point their significant other, or kids might just get curious…

Anthony Wiener (D), Ted Courser(R), Cindy Gamrat (R)Nebraska Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy,…

Sometimes Karma will just spin around and kick the sanctimonious right in the cajones.

“Family Values”…Indeed.

Indiana GOP’s House Leader resigns after texting sexually explicit video of himself cheating on wife to everyone on his “Contacts” list

The controversial House Majority Leader in Indiana — he cosponsored the state’s “religious freedom” law — resigned suddenly on Tuesday after a sexually compromising video was sent to all of the people on his “Contacts” list, the Advocate’s Bil Browning reports.

After news of the mass-texting began to circulate, Representative Jud McMillin (R) claimed that his “phone was stolen in Canada and out of my control for about 24 hours. I have just been able to reactivate it under my control. Please disregard any messages you received recently. I am truly sorry for anything offensive you may have received.”

But his “Canadian girlfriend stole my phone” defense apparently didn’t convince many of his “Contacts” — or at least, not the ones who mattered — and so Tuesday night he released a statement in which he said that the “time is right for me to pass the torch and spend more time with my family.”

During his five years in the legislature, McMillin has crusaded to “protect the integrity of the institution of marriage,” but the Advocate reported that the woman on the video he texted was not, in fact, his wife. According to his campaign website, he claimed that “the family has always been the foundation of our strength of community” and that “[i]n these times of turmoil the rest of the country could learn something from our example.”

It’s unclear what the rest of the country could learn from his example at this time, other than — perhaps — opposing LGBTQ rights across the board could have karmic implications for conservative Republicans with a proclivity for taking videos of themselves cheating on their wives.

Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Wisconsin… And Indiana

The battle in Wisconsin is getting ready to go nationwide, as Koch funded Republican Fascists try and destroy Unions…

Long past time to fight back.

Empty seats reside where the Democrats normally sit as Republicans filled their seats inside the House chambers at the Indiana Statehouse on Tuesday.

Indiana State House Missing Democrats

Indiana Democrats trigger Statehouse showdown over anti-union legislation

Seats on one side of the Indiana House were nearly empty today as House Democrats departed the the state rather than vote on anti-union legislation.

A source tells the Indianapolis Star that Democrats are headed to Illinois, though it was possible some also might go to Kentucky. They need to go to a state with a Democratic governor to avoid being taken into police custody and returned to Indiana.

The House was came into session twice this morning, with only three of the 40 Democrats present. Those were needed to make a motion, and a seconding motion, for any procedural steps Democrats would want to take to ensure Republicans don’t do anything official without quorum.

With only 58 legislators present, there was no quorum present to do business. The House needs 67 of its members to be present.

House Speaker Brian Bosma said he did not know yet whether he would ask the Indiana State Police to compel the lawmakers to attend, if they can be found.

Today’s fight was triggered by Republicans pushing a bill that would bar unions and companies from negotiating a contract that requires non-union members to kick-in fees for representation. It’s become the latest in what is becoming a national fight over Republican attempts to eliminate or limit collective bargaining.

Gov. Mitch Daniels had warned his party late last year against pursuing so-called “right to work” legislation. While he agreed with it philosophically, he said it was a big issue that needed a state-wide debate and noted no Republican had run on this in the November election.

But now that his party is pursuing it, Daniels has not spoken against it. He has so far issued no statement, has held no news conference and has not been interviewed by any Indiana reporters in the Statehouse. Daniels did do a radio interview Monday with National Public Radio in which he discussed the labor fight which has caused a government stalemate in Wisconsin — where Senate Democrats have fled to Illinois to prevent a vote on a bill that limits collective bargaining –a now, apparently, his state.

Racist Soap??

This one is strange. Products like this were in their heyday in the 19th and first half of the 20th century. You can find them in many antique shops, and a number of black collectors collect them fetching serious prices. A book, published in 1907, in my own collection along with a mid 19th Century McGuffey’s Reader Collection is this one:

Major corporations utilized what would today be considered racially insensitive advertising –

So… is it any wonder someone has come up with replicating those products, much the same way other products are replicated?

Not sure it is racism… But it is commercialism…

Suspected Militiamen Charged With Plotting to Kill Officers

Nine alleged members of a Michigan-based Christian militia group were indicted by a federal grand jury in Detroit in an alleged 17-month plot to attack and kill local, state and federal law enforcement officials.

On the heels of weekend raids in Michigan, Ohio and Indiana, the FBI unsealed an indictment today revealing charges of seditious conspiracy, attempted use of weapons of mass destruction and teaching the use of explosive materials. The charges were filed against nine alleged members of the Hutaree militia, which writes on its Web site that it is preparing for battle with the anti-Christ.

The indictment also charges all the defendants with carrying a firearm during a violent crime on at least one separate occasion.

According to the FBI and the Michigan U.S. attorney’s office, the defendants planned to “kill an unidentified member of local law enforcement and then attack the law enforcement officers who gather in Michigan for the funeral,” using improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which are considered weapons of mass destruction.

The indictment said the plan, allegedly hatched in August 2008, was to take place next month.

“Because the Hutaree had planned a covert reconnaissance operation for April which had the potential of placing an unsuspecting member of the public at risk, the safety of the public and of the law enforcement community demanded intervention at this time,” said U.S. Attorney Barbara L. McQuade.

The defendants include a family of four: David Brian Stone, 45; his wife, Tina Stone, 44; his son, Joshua Matthew Stone, 21, of Clayton, Mich.; and his other son, David Brian Stone Jr., 19, of Adrian, Mich.

Also charged in the five-count indictment were Joshua Clough, 28, of Blissfield, Mich.; Michael Meeks, 40, of Manchester, Mich.; Thomas Piatek, 46, of Whiting, Ind.; Kristopher Sickles, 27, of Sandusky, Ohio; and Jacob Ward, 33, of Huron, Ohio.

If convicted, the nine could get maximum sentences of life in prison.
