Black Liberation Army Hijacker Caught After 40 Years

Considering the number of active criminals in the US – Sans the murder conviction, I’m not sure why spending time and resource chasing this guy down in Portugal after 40 years makes much sense (Where in the world is D.B. Cooper?)…

George Wright

Fugitive in hijacking case caught after 40-year hunt

Reporting from New York— The FBI agents wore swimsuits — the better to ensure they were unarmed as they delivered $1 million in cash to the hijackers. The criminals wore beatific looks, traveled with young children and were “polite as possible,” a passenger on the ill-fated Delta flight recalled at the time.

For one man, it was the perfect crime — for nearly 40 years.

But on Tuesday, the FBI said it had caught up with the last hijacker, a convicted killer named George Wright who had escaped from prison in 1970 and resurfaced two years later when he joined members of a radical black nationalist group in forcing the jet to fly to Algeria.

Wright, now 68, was picked up outside his home in Portugal as he headed to a neighborhood cafe, said Michael Schroeder, a spokesman for the U.S. Marshals Service in New Jersey.

“Can you imagine?” Schroeder said, envisioning Wright’s surprise when Portuguese police, who had Wright under surveillance and were working in collaboration with U.S. officials, captured the fugitive. Read the rest of this entry »

Not sure what this republican thought he was doing hijacking a Greyhound Bus…  “Yo! I got a gun! Drive me to Cuba!”

Highway hijacking: Gunman seizes Greyhound bus

An armed passenger hijacked a Greyhound bus Thursday night along a North Carolina highway, police said.

The suspect was arrested after police surrounded the vehicle when the driver pulled into a gas station, authorities said. No one was injured.

The bus with 35 passengers was headed south on Interstate 85 from Richmond, Va., to Raleigh, Greyhound spokeswoman Maureen Richmond said.

The suspect pulled a gun and ordered the driver to relinquish the bus. The driver slowed down and got off an exit, where she let off all the passengers except two, Richmond said.

North Carolina Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Gordon said troopers started following the hijacked bus at around 10:17 p.m.

The driver pulled into a gas station off U.S. 1 Business near Norlina, which is about 60 miles north of Raleigh. The remaining passengers were released and the suspect was taken into custody after he was hit with a stun gun, Gordon said.

Gordon said the passengers were taken to a nearby fire station until another bus could be dispatched to pick them up.

The Vance County Sheriff’s Office sent a bomb unit to the bus after the suspect claimed that there was a bag with an explosive device on board, Gordon said. The search was continuing late Thursday.

The suspect’s identity was not immediately released and authorities hadn’t determined a motive.

“Uhhhhh… What’s the gas mileage on this bad boy? Gimme $250 of low lead!”
