ANOTHER SC Republican and Nekked Hiking!

Must be something in the water down there in South Carolina – the ostensible Republican Governor to be seems to have caught a case of “Nekkid Hiking”, much like the outgoing Governor Mark Sanford!

Sanford’s Would-Be Successor Denies Affair

Republican Governor Candidate, Nikki Haley

A political blogger claimed today that he had an affair several years ago with a married Republican vying to become the state’s first female governor. Rep. Nikki Haley vehemently denied the allegation, made in a post on Will Folks’ blog that contained no proof. Haley called the claim a “disgraceful smear” planted to derail her campaign, which has gained steam from high-powered endorsements, including Sarah Palin and Jenny Sanford.

“I have been 100% faithful to my husband throughout our 13 years of marriage. This claim against me is categorically and totally false,” Haley, a 38-year-old mother of two, said in a statement. “It is quite simply South Carolina politics at its worst.” Folks is a political consultant who now runs, a conservative site that features occasionally insightful commentary, thinly sourced stories of state political intrigue, and photos of women in bikinis.

Va Governor Candidate Meltdown

Robert F. McDonnell, Republican candidate for Governor of Virginia in the 2010 Election is steadil chipping away at his previously commanding lead as more and more information about the ugly side of religious conservatism comes out…

VG - r

Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Virginia voters finds McDonnell leading Deeds 51% to 42% on September 2nd. This was just after news of McDonnell’s thesis at Regent University leaked out where he blamed the cultural meltdown of America morality on working women and homosexuals. As such, it probably has not had any impact on the numbers…

Scrutiny Spreads to ’03 McDonnell Remarks

In January 2003, then-Del. Robert F. McDonnell helped gavel in one of the most extraordinary judicial reappointment hearings in Virginia history: a seven-hour, trial-like affair that led to questions about whether the future Republican gubernatorial candidate thought gays were fit to serve on the bench. Republican Governor Candidate McDowell – working women were “detrimental” to the family

Hmmmmm… Just when it looked like the Democrat candidate for Virginia Governor, Creigh Deeds was down for the count, due to an inability to get traction and name recognition…

Bob McDonnell

Republican Candidate for VIrginia Governor, Robert McDonnell (left)

His Republican opponent Bob McDonnell has a bit of his past floating up, which may well put him in the proverbial “crapper”.

According to Slate

Bob McDonnell was 34 years old when, in 1989, he wrote his master’s thesis at the evangelical Regent University. The 93-page paper, first reported by the Washington Post over the weekend, was an action plan for the religious right. Among the opinions expressed: working women were “detrimental” to the family, the government should penalize unmarried “cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators,” that divorce should be further restricted, and that family is “God-ordained government” untouchable by civil law. Twenty years later, McDonnell—now the Republican candidate for governor of Virginia after having served as the state’s attorney general—says his opinions have changed. Seeking to minimize political damage from the Post‘s discovery, McDonnell told reporters the idea “that a 20-year-old academic exercise somehow represents my 18-year career in public service is just a flat misrepresentation,” adding that he had encouraged his daughters to pursue advanced academic degrees and noting that one daughter had served in the military in Iraq. Virginia Governors Race – Founder of Black Entertainment TV Endorses Republican, McDonnell

The Gubernatorial race in Virginia this year, one of two states who schedule off-year elections has the makings of a barn-burner. Moderate Republicans and Moderate Democrats have both served Virginia well, and in that vein, Republican candidate Mitch McDonnel has steadily moved to the center.

His challenge Creigh Deeds is from downstate, and pulled an upset over Terry McCaliffe and the Clinton money machine in the primary. He doesn’t have the high tech connections a candidate from Northern Virginia or the Virginia Beach/Newport News area might have. Mark Warner is trying to rectify that.

This defection however, is a big surprise –

Sheila Johnson, the founder of Black Entertainment Television and the former chairwoman of Democratic Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine’s inaugural committee, crossed party lines Monday to endorse Republican Bob McDonnell as Kaine’s successor, arguing McDonnell would do a better job of spurring economic development in Virginia.
