Arizona GOP Raffles Glock Pistol in Gifford’s District

2011-08-31-PimaCountyGlock.jpg

That’s right, the Arizona GOP is raffling a new Glock Model 23, .40 Caliber Pistol with 3 – 12 round clips…

In the District where Congresswoman Giffords was shot, and 6 people were murdered at a town hall meeting by a whacko…

With two Glocks.

Pima County Repubs Raffle Glock As Fundraiser; Same Gun Type Used In Tucson Shooting

An Arizona Republican fundraiser is offering as a prize the same type of gun used in the attempted assassination of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

On August 26 the Pima County Republican Party sent out its regular online newsletter, e-Tracks [PDF]. It contained your standard newsletterisms – an intro from the chairman, a description of local candidates, a calendar of upcoming events, and so on. But this particular issue also featured an eye-catching giveaway to raise money for GOTV (Get Out the Vote) efforts.

For just $10, readers can purchase a raffle ticket (out of 125 offered) for a chance to win a brand new handgun. Not just any handgun, but a Glock 23

Arizona Republicans surely know just how effective this particular brand of gun can be. After all, it was only eight months ago that Jared Lee Loughner used a Glock 19 in Tucson – the seat of Pima County – to shoot Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in the head. Giffords survived, but six other people, including a nine year old girl and a federal judge, were killed in the same shooting.

The raffle gun comes preloaded with adjustable grips, a case, and three 12-round magazines. Glock USA describes the model as “a slightly reduced size of a full-size handgun for easier concealment but still retains the performance on the level of a serious big bore.”

Why Isn’t This Clown Indicted? Glenn Beck Tells Followers to “Shoot Them In The Head”

I think the Nazi flag behind Glenn Beck in this video is apropos. Here, Glenn Beck calls for his followers to kill those “radicals in Washington” and “Shoot them in the head”.

Think – maybe it’s time for Mr Beck to take a long “powder” in a Federal Prison…And not the Club Fed.

Black Arizona Republican Forced to Resign After Tea Party Threats

Anthony Miller

Forer District Chairman Anthony Miller

The sole black Republican district chairman in Arizona resigned just hours after the assassination attempt on Gabrielle Giffords citing threats from Tea Party members and fear for his family’s safety.

Citing “constant verbal attacks” and other forms of intimidation District Chairman Anthony Miller resigned, along with several others active in the local party.

We have all been hearing about how the language of the Republicans and Tea Baggers isn’t really threatening…

That doesn’t hold much water when lifelong Republicans, afraid for their lives, are being blackmailed and threatened out of office.

Gabrielle Giffords’ Arizona shooting prompts resignations

Miller, a 43-year-old Ahwatukee Foothills resident and former campaign worker for U.S. Sen. John McCain, was re-elected to a second one-year term last month. He said constant verbal attacks after that election and Internet blog posts by some local members with Tea Party ties made him worry about his family’s safety.

In an e-mail sent a few hours after Saturday’s massacre in Tucson that killed six and injured 13, including U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, Miller told state Republican Party Chairman Randy Pullen he was quitting: “Today my wife of 20 yrs ask (sic) me do I think that my PCs (Precinct Committee members) will shoot at our home? So with this being said I am stepping down from LD20GOP Chairman…I will make a full statement on Monday.”

Pullen was in Washington, D.C. and not available for comment, an employee in his office said. State party spokesman Matt Roberts said he could not discuss details of the district’s disputes but, “Anthony has been a good Republican and was really involved in LD20.”

The newly-elected Dist. 20 Republican secretary, Sophia Johnson of Ahwatukee, first vice chairman Roger Dickinson of Tempe and Jeff Kolb, the former district spokesman from Ahwatukee, also quit. “This singular focus on ‘getting’ Anthony (Miller) was one of the main reasons I chose to resign,” Kolb said in an e-mail to another party activist. Kolb confirmed the contents of the e-mail to the Republic…

Miller said when he was a member of McCain’s campaign staff last year has been criticized by the more conservative party members who supported Republican opponent J.D. Hayworth. The first and only African-American to hold the party’s precinct chairmanship, Miller said he has been called “McCain’s boy,” and during the campaign saw a critic form his hand in the shape of a gun and point it at him.

“I wasn’t going to resign but decided to quit after what happened Saturday,” Miller said. “I love the Republican Party but I don’t want to take a bullet for anyone.”

Arizona – “The Mecca of Prejudice and Bigotry”

A Map Published by Palin's "Reload" Campaign, felt by Many to Encourage Assassination

The Pima County Sheriff, among others –  blames the assassination attempt on Giffords, resulting in 6 dead and 18 wounded on the heated political rhetoric employed by conservatives. This was not the first time gunfire has been directed against Rep. Giffords. Police report that her office was shot at, and vandalized during the Health Care Debate. Police now are looking for at least one other “person of interest” in connection with the murders. Police have not commented on what role, if any, the person may have played.

After the same type of “guns” and “kill the liberals” rhetoric led to the bombing of the Murrah Building by Timothy McVeigh, the Anthrax attacks on liberal news people and elected officials, dozens of mailings of “powdered substances” to government officials, and the plot by whack-jobs to assassinate President Obama

It is very difficult to give any credence to the claim that the right wingers don’t know what they are doing.

This is nothing more than Domestic Terrorism, and should be treated by Law Enforcement and the Courts as such.

Shooting throws spotlight on state of U.S. political rhetoric

The tenor of American political rhetoric became a centerpiece in the national debate over Saturday’s attack by a gunman in Tucson, Arizona, that killed six people and left local Democratic congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with a bullet wound to the brain.

Public leaders and others expressed sorrow about “a tragedy for the entire country,” as President Obama put it — a total of 18 people allegedly shot by 22-year-old Jared Lee Loughner.

But officials also voiced dismay Saturday over the possibility that highly polarized rhetoric in the conservative hotbed of Arizona may have played a role in the assassination attempt of the Democratic congresswoman, who was targeted during a meet-and-greet with constituents in a shopping center. A federal judge, a girl age 9, and four other people died in the mass killing.

While not stating a motive for the shootings, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik in Tucson used a nationally televised press conference to condemn the tone of political discourse in his state. He charged that public debate is now “vitriolic rhetoric,” which has rendered Arizona “the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”

Dupnik suggested that such rhetoric can have deadly consequences.

“We need to do some soul searching,” Dupnik told reporters. “It’s the vitriolic rhetoric that we hear day in and day out from people in the radio business and some people in the TV business. Read the rest of this entry »
