Tiger Caged!

Not good for Tiger Woods…

Tiger’s perp shot – definitely not on the green.

Tiger Woods Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI In Florida

Early Monday morning in Jupiter, Fla., Tiger Woods was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Booked for DUI in a Palm Beach County jail at 7:18 a.m. ET, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the golf legend was released on his own recognizance at 10:50 a.m.

Jupiter police spokesperson Kristin Rightler did not immediately offer further detail about the arrest.

The 41-year-old golfer has won 14 major tournaments and 79 PGA Tour events — which is enough to rank him second on the list of all-time winningest golfers, The Associated Press reports — but his most recent major win came nearly a decade ago, in 2008.

Since then, Woods has struggled with a raft of headline-grabbing off-the-course incidents, which Sports Illustrated details here.

More recently, health concerns have kept him off the links. Just last month, Woods underwent his fourth back surgery in about as many years.

“I could no longer live with the pain I had. We tried every possible non-surgical route and nothing worked. I had good days and bad days, but the pain was usually there, and I couldn’t do much,” he wrote in a blog post last week. “Even lying down hurt.”

Still, Woods expressed optimism about the results of the surgery and his chances to get back to the game.

“All I can do is take it day by day. There’s no hurry,” Woods wrote last week. “But, I want to say unequivocally, I want to play professional golf again.”

You are More Likely to Die Violently … Outside the City

Whooops! Did I really say that?

That’s right, despite all the caterwauling by the racist right about “black on black crime”, the simple fact of the matter is that drunk white folks in Wyoming kill more people percentage wise than black folks in many cities.

Those who said they have driven within two hours after drinking any alcohol report an average of 11 such trips in the past year (males 14.4 vs females 5.9 trips). Whites account for 84 percent of all monthly trips, while this groups comprises 77 percent of the 16 to 64 year old population. The percentages for monthly alcohol trips and population are: Blacks — 5 and 9 percent; Hispanics — 5 and 7 percent; Asian Americans — 1 and 2 percent; and Native Americans and Eskimos — 3 and 2 percent. About 3 percent of whites, 2 percent of Blacks, 2 percent of Asian and 7 percent of American Indian/Eskimos age 16-64 report being stopped by the police for suspicion of drinking and driving.

What this feeds isa high DUI rate in rural and suburban areas.

You’re More Likely to Die a Violent Death in Rural America Than in a City

In one popular explanation for the mass exodus from urban America over the last several decades, people left the city because the city wasn’t safe. In suburban and rural America, by contrast, the cars drive slower down cul-de-sacs, random crime is less common, and gunfire is scarce. You’ve probably heard this before.

Here, however, is the data: Yes, homicide-related death rates are significantly higher in urban parts of the country. But that risk is far outweighed by the fact that you’re about twice as likely to die in a car crash in rural America than you are in the most urban counties. Nationwide, the rate of “unintentional-injury death” car crashes, drownings, falls, machinery accidents and the like is about 15 times the rate of homicide death. Add together all the ways in which you might die prematurely by intentional or unintentional injury (as opposed to illness), and your risk of death is actually about 22 percent higher in the most rural counties in America than in the most urban ones.

All together, your risk of injury death actually goes up the more rural the community where you live.

This finding comes from a new study by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, published in theAnnals of Emergency Medicine. The study looked at every injury death in America between 1999 and 2006 (excluding death by terrorism the researchers considered Sept. 11 too much an outlier to contribute to our understanding of these public-health patterns). That number totaled 1,295,919 deaths. Each was tagged to the county where the injury took place, with counties classified on a 10-step continuum from urban to rural.

The main finding inverts many of our assumptions about danger and place: “When considering all mechanisms of injury death as an overall metric of safety,” the authors write, “large cities appear to be the safest counties in the United States, significantly safer than their rural counterparts.”

On the below two illustrations from the paper, the map of population density by county (top) directly contrasts with the map of death rates (bottom):

Across the whole population, the top three causes of death were motor vehicle crashes, firearms and poisoning. But start to break these numbers down by region, age group and even race, and the picture gets more interesting. Motor vehicle crashes, for example, lead to 27.61 deaths per 100,000 people in the most rural counties. But that number is just 10.58 deaths per 100,000 people in the most urban counties.

Other risks you might expect are more common in rural areas, like injury from machines and environmental events like flooding, animal attacks or exposure to the cold. As for guns, the risk of firearm-related death is actually pretty consistent across the country, population-wide. But firearm deaths are significantly higher in rural areas for children and people over age 45. In the city, they’re much higher for people aged 20 to 44.

Race also played a curious factor. Rural counties with large black populations had lower risk of injury death than rural counties with fewer blacks. For Latinos, the pattern was the opposite.(BTx3 thinks it’s the crazy white folks on Youtube effect)

Racist Republican Wants Congressional Hearings on Obama’s Uncle

You would think that, with the country in it’s worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, millions of Americans out of work losing their homes and falling into poverty…

That Congress could find something better to do with their time than spend millions of taxpayer dollars investigating Obama’s Uncle for his DWIs.

Obama’s Uncle is an alcoholic… Big freakin’ deal. Most families, if you dig deep enough have one or more members with “problems”. Nobody is going to deport a sitting President’s relative. Bush’s felonious brother Neal was made to “disappear” during his term – despite a number of questionable business dealings with folks who wound up in jail. In this country, sans capital murder or some other violent crime – the President’s family is pretty much immune in this country from persecution for petty crime or stupidity…

And especially Congress using them as a political weapon. Obama’s Uncle needs to be taken care of by local authorities by being sentenced to a rehab facility or jail – just like any other miscreant.

The real question is why does Congress let a racist Piece of Shit like King continue to serve?

Talk About Distracted Driving!

You can see some strange sites on the Washington Beltway. Not only folks driving at 75 trying to simultaneously read their email and text but…

On the Beltway, a claim of drunken sex at 85 mph

…in the Fairfax County courthouse, a lawsuit about a crash on the Beltway last year is dropping a few jaws as it makes the rounds and heads toward trial next week. Among the latest allegations in the lawsuit pending in Fairfax County Circuit Court:

Paragraph 10. “At the time of the collision, Defendant was going 85 miles per hour.”

Paragraph 12. “At the time of the collision, Defendant was having sex with a female.”

Paragraph13. “At the time of the collision, Defendant was driving admittedly drunk.”

Paragraph 14. “At the time of the accident, Defendant was partially or totally in the backseat of the car.”

Wait, WHA? 85 miles per hour? The backseat? And what happened to paragraph 11?

Records show the defendant, from Woodbridge, was convicted in Fairfax district court of drunken driving near Telegraph Road in May 2010. But now he denies he was driving. (What?) He was coming from his 21st birthday party in Baltimore, court records state. The woman involved has been dismissed from the case. There was someone ELSE in the car too, and HE denies driving as well.

The defendant’s lawyer, Frank Prior, said there was “no statement by anyone that they were driving on the Beltway having sex” and “no facts on it.” The plaintiff, a 28-year-old cab driver, is seeking $75,000 in damages and is represented by Douglas R. Stevens, who declined to comment beyond his court filings.

But Stevens sought punitive damages against the defendant and the friend, arguing in a pleading that “having sex at 85 miles per hour while drunk on a freeway is willful and wanton negligence.” A Fairfax judge threw out the punitive damages claim.

The case is set for trial next week.

“You see, Your Honor – the reason we had the accident is that I wasn’t really driving…”

Another Right Wing Hypocrite!

Fresh on the heels of several Democrat scandals, the Republicans continue to be the gift that keeps on giving in terms of their ability to self-immolate.

Yet another in a very long line of right-wing hypocrites has been outed by his own actions. California state Sen. Roy Ashburn, who reportedly has voted against every gay rights measure since he took office eight years ago was charged with driving under the influence on Wednesday, reportedly after leaving a gay nightclub in Sacramento. This particular metro-sexual Republican is married to a woman, and the “father” of 4 children.

California senator says he’s gay, defends his anti-gay votes

Republican, anti-gay State Sen. Roy Ashburn in his booking photo

California state Sen. Roy Ashburn, whose personal life became the subject of rumors in the wake of a DUI arrest last week, announced Monday that he is gay, but he defended his numerous votes against gay rights bills.“I am gay . . . those are the words that have been so difficult for me for so long. But I am gay,” Ashburn told conservative radio talk show host Inga Barks in an on-air interview.

A Sacramento TV station last week reported that unnamed sources saw Ashburn at a gay bar the night before his arrest last Wednesday on suspicion of DUI. The speculation set off a media frenzy, rekindling rumors that Ashburn lived a closeted life.

Gay-rights advocates seized on the news to point out Ashburn’s votes against gay rights legislation and his appearance several years ago at a rally in support of a proposed constitutional amendment to prohibit gay marriage.

I guess gay people suffer the pestilence of people like Sen. Ashburn, just as black folks suffer the pestilence of that segment of self-hating black conservatives, who spin their wheels, and work themselves into a frenzy defending conservative racism… Gay people have the likes of Senator Ashburn…

We have the likes of Clarence Thomas.
