To conservative bigots it isn’t about the 100 lives destroyed, because those lives were “others”, and to conservatives less than fully human. It is to conservatives about advancing their hatred of another group of “others” – in this case Muslims. There is little difference between evangelical or fundamentalist christian hatred of Gays, whether it is “Praying away the Gay” or beating it out of them – and the fundamentalist and radical Islamic. They are both rotten fruit from the same diseased tree. You don’t have to be Gay to respect human life. There is no morality or respect for shared humanity in the Chump’s vein of the right wing…Only evil. Hatred and bigotry against one – is hatred against all.

CNN commentator Charles Blow asserted on Tuesday that Republicans were allowing hate to spread by downplaying the idea that homophobia contributed to the terrorist attack on the Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

On Monday, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump suggested that President Barack Obama was complicit in the attack on Pulse nightclub in Orlando, saying, “Look, we’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind,”

Speaking on CNN’s New Day, Blow pointed out that Donald Trump had always questioned President Barack Obama’s “identity, his religion, his kind of fealty to this country.”

“If you put it into that sort of context, it is very clear that he means to question his loyalty, his patriotism, whether he has some sort of intimate knowledge of Islamic terror,” Blow said. “And that is outrageous.”

The commentator argued that it was “not sufficient” for Trump supporters to condemn the billionaire’s words while continuing to support him.

“This is a zero sum game, either you fight against hatred or you advance it,” Blow insisted. “Is it correct to say people are distorting a particularly religion, Islam, the Muslim faith? Absolutely. Is it correct to say there is a strand in the faith of people exploiting it to turn people into weapons? Absolutely.”

Blow observed that Americans who hate Muslims contribute to the radicalization of Muslim Americans. He also noted that the people who were criticizing Obama for not saying the words “radical Islam” were same people who refused to bring themselves to say that the attack occurred at a “gay” nightclub.

And then in only 30 seconds, Blow delivered a lesson on how hatred spreads:

We cannot downplay the idea of homophobia being linked to other phobias and other hatreds and other isms, that all of these things are connected, that once you allow yourself to hate one person, once you allow that into your spirit, once you allow that to become part of your and normalized in you, it allows you to hate anyone, to hate everyone, to be able to hurt anyone.”

Time to Man Up, President Obama

In Mugabe’s Zimbabwe it isn’t unusual for political opponents to find their livelihoods destroyed, to be beaten or killed, or to be summarily imprisoned to be tried before kangaroo courts on manufactured or imaginary charges…

Zimbabwe is no different from dozens of other countries wherein the government has failed, or become so corrupt as to become the enemy of freedom and sanctity of a legal system supporting justice.

It used to be America was different.

We have become like Argentina during the dark years, where the government cowered as right-wing gangs of thugs “disappeared” thousands of people who had the temerity to stand up, or were just inconveniently in the way…

Instead of the gun and billy club, gangs of right-wing thugs masquerading as media virtually “disappear” people like Van Jones and Shirley Sherrod in this country, which your administration cowers behind the locked doors of political expediency.

Your administration, through your decision not to prosecute the very criminal activities of the previous administration, and complete refusal to stand up to the criminal activities of the extreme right has failed in its role to protect the innocent, to protect free speech, or to ensure any level of justice.

You have become a shadow government, no different from that of Argentina which hid under the covers and cowered behind locked doors as thousands of their citizens were murdered in back alleys and tortured in fields.

Mr. Obama – you are an enabler.

Dear Mr. President: Time To Man Up

With all due respect, it’s time to man up. It is time, way past time for you to grow into the job you were elected to do, and promised to do. It is time to stand up and be the man we hope we elected. It is time to justify that hope, and the trust that was placed in you. It is time to pick up the mantle of history that has been entrusted to you and prove yourself worthy of carrying it forward.

Too much is at stake now. Too many people are beginning to think their faith in you was misplaced. What’s worse is you are proving them right.

Strike one was Van Jones.

Strike two was ACORN.

And now Shirley Sherrod had become strike three…

I’d like to add to that – No Criminal Charges in Firing of US Attorneys

The Bush “Justice Department” appointees and political hacks destroyed the Civil Rights Division, and made a complete mockery of both Civil Rights and impartiality – and your administration again, refuses to take a stand.

Your Administration sir, has become the embodiment of  the words of Pastor Martin Niemöller –

“THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,

Nobody is asking you to become a Robert Mugabe, suppressing free speech…

What we are asking, no demanding – is that you prosecute criminal violations of our laws impartially. And in this case impartially includes the criminal acts of Andrew Breitbart and Faux News in defaming, criminally maligning, and destroying the reputation and livelihood of innocent citizens such as Shirley Sherrod. It quite simply is time for your DOJ to live up to its ideals – and start prosecuting criminals…

Even if they happen to be criminals on the right.

Now it is true, the partisan corruption and criminal malfeasance during the Bush Administration has left both our Department of Justice and Judiciary in shambles…

But you were elected to put that to rights.

Time for you to stand up for the majority that elected you – and end this rule of thugs.

 

Conservatives New War Against Black Folks

One of the popular screeds among a sect of the conservative hegemony, is that the name of the NAACP is at issue because of the “Colored Peoples”. One needs to ask if one is to use this literal saw, if the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Sons of Confederate Veterans might not also be misnomered. Since there quite simply aren’t any daughters of American Revolutionaries or sons of Confederates alive today. To be precise, might not that be the Great-Great-great-great-Gandaughters of the American Revolution, and Great-Great-Great-Grandsons of the Confederacy?

I mean, like the term x-American, “hyphenated Americans” only became an issue and distasteful AFTER black folks claimed the term African-American to conservatives. Nary a peep about the hundreds of German-American, Irish-American, Italian-American, Polish-American etc. organizations which span the country. But African-American? Wow – to a certain racially misguided sect of conservatives – “Dem’s fighting words!”

Amazing is Glenn beck’s “discovery” that there actually is a black history in America. I suppose he believed prior to that point A-A’s appeared magically sometime between the Brown decision, and King’s 1963 March on Washington. Yeah I know – the great alien “motherships” converged over every city in America, and unlike the Movie “Independence Day”…

Instead of raining sown destruction on every city and metropolis, rained down freshly minted black folks to destroy the picture perfect urban havens!

It would seem that the “Culture Wars” promulgated by social conservatives have devolved into the war on black folks (as well as Hispanics)…

By the not so social conservatives.

“Lift Every Voice and Sing” is an uplifting spiritual, one that’s often heard in churches and popularly recognized as the black national anthem. Timothy Askew grew up with its rhythms, but now the song holds a contentious place in his mind.

“I love the song,” said Askew, an associate professor of English at Clark Atlanta University, a historically black college. “But it’s not the song that is the problem. It’s the label of the song as a ‘black national anthem’ that creates a lot of confusion and tension.”

The song and its message of struggle and hope have long been attached to the African-American community. It lives on as a religious hymn for several protestant and African-American denominations and was quoted by the Rev. Joseph E. Lowery at Barack Obama’s presidential inauguration.

After studying the music and lyrics of the song and its history for more than two decades, Askew decided the song was intentionally written with no specific reference to any race or ethnicity.

Brewer’s office later backpedaled, saying most human smuggling run by drug rings, which “are by definition smuggling drugs.” Malarkey, one Mexican senator tells theAP: “Traditionally, migrants have been needy, humble people who in good faith go looking for a way to better the lives of their families.” Border Patrol acknowledged some illegals are carrying drugs, but that most “drug smuggling is done by people who intend to do that. That’s their livelihood.” AG Terry Goddard, Brewer’s presumptive Democratic opponent, said Brewer “does not understand the difference between illegal immigration and the organized criminals who are members of the violent drug cartels who pose a very a real danger.”

Conservative talk show hosts and columnists have ridiculed an 11-year-old Washington state boy’s account of his mother’s death as a “sob story” exploited by the White House and congressional Democrats like a “kiddie shield” to defend their health care legislation.Marcelas Owens, whose mother got sick, lost her job, lost her health insurance and died, said Thursday he’s taking the attacks from Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Michelle Malkin in stride.

“My mother always taught me they can have their own opinion but that doesn’t mean they are right,” Owens, who lives in Seattle, said in an interview.

Owens’ grandmother, Gina, who watched her daughter die, isn’t quite so generous.

“These are adults, and he is an 11-year-old boy who lost his mother,” Gina Owens said. “They should be ashamed.”

James O’Keefe’s race problem

Many of the conservatives who gleefully promoted James O’Keefe’s past political stunts are feigning shock at his arrest on charges that he and three associates planned to tamper with Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu’s phone lines. Once upon a time, right-wing pundits hailed the 25-year-old O’Keefe as a creative genius and model of journalistic ethics. Andrew Breitbart, who has paid O’Keefe, called him one of the all-time “great journalists” and said he deserved a Pulitzer for his undercover ACORN video. Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly declared he should have earned a “congressional medal.”

Now an activist organization that monitors hate groups has produced a photo of O’Keefe at a 2006 conference on “Race and Conservatism” that featured leading white nationalists. The photo, first published Jan. 30  on the Web site of the anti-racism group One People’s Project, shows O’Keefe at the gathering, which was so controversial even the ultra-right Leadership Institute, which employed O’Keefe at the time, withdrew its backing. But O’Keefe and fellow young conservative provocateur Marcus Epstein soldiered on to give anti-Semites, professional racists and proponents of Aryanism an opportunity to share their grievances and plans to make inroads in the GOP.

Hannity And Fox News Still Obsessed With Rev. Jeremiah Wright

I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that Rev. Jeremiah Wright is African American but Fox News’ obsession with him has gone over the top. Even if you think the guy is a radical extremist whatever, Wright is a former Marine and Navy corpsman who attended President Johnson as a cardiopulmonary technician. And yet Wright, who has committed no crime (or you could be sure Fox News would trumpet it 24/7) other than to espouse a political philosophy Fox News finds distasteful, has been turned into the 21st Century Willie Horton – and by a bunch of self-styled patriots who who never served their country when they had the chance. With video.

“Great American” Sean Hannity sneered by way of introduction last night (11/2/09) to a meaningless video of Wright speaking of the country as being a land of greed and slavery. “(Wright) used his time at the podium to do what he does best, that’s bash the United States of America.”

As opposed to Hannity who uses his time before the cameras to bash our president, vice president, Speaker of the House, Democrats and liberals, Chicago, the media, African Americans, etc.

After the clip, Hannity said, “That’s Rev. Wright at an event hosted by a SOCIALIST (his emphasis) magazine. So I wonder how many other friends of the president are subscribers to that publication.” Not that Hannity bothered to find out. Smarmy, baseless, innuendo is, apparently, A-OK on the “fair and balanced” network.

Hannity was not the only one to focus on this non-news event. Bill O’Reilly included Wright in the “Reality Check” segment last night. “Same tune, different place. I know the Obama people hate when we show you Wright in any context because it brings back bad memories… But Wright did influence the president’s life and that still has not been fully examined.”

Sort of like that Birth Certificate “hasn’t been fully examined”?

Faux is losing. There is no sweeter sound than racist conservative whimpering.
