Why Right Wingers Don’t Belong In Positions of Responsibility

It is a simple fact that you can’t punish your way out of a social,  or criminal situation.

If you could, there would be no crime in the world at all.

We have a situation in America where right wing types have reinstituted Debtors Prisons, and as the FBI Report on Ferguson, Missouri lays out, where the Judicial System is corrupted as a tool to drive racial punishment against the poor.

There are clowns like this Judge appointed every single day by the Chumph to our Federal Courts. This racist assh*le is probably on the Chumph’s short list.

“As a Mississippian with deep roots in this state that I love, I am deeply troubled by the many ways in which poor Mississippians, especially African Americans, are victimized by Mississippi’s legal system,” Johnson said. “We have litigated matters involving excessive bail, illegal jailing of misdemeanor offenders for unpaid fines and the refusal to provide poor criminal defendants with counsel, and now we see that not even the right to raise one’s children is beyond the reach of the injustice that befalls poor Mississippians.”

Mississippi judge resigns after barring mother from seeing her baby for 14 months over unpaid court fees

A Mississippi judge who barred a mother from seeing her newborn baby for 14 months because she hadn’t paid court-imposed fees has stepped down.

The Clarion-Ledger reports that Pearl Youth Court Judge John Shirley has resigned under pressure from local activists who decried his decision to impose a no-contact order on a resident of Jackson, Miss., who is identified in court documents only as “Mother A.”

The judge first issued the order after the woman and a friend, who were driving through the city of Pearl looking for work, were pulled over by a police officer who discovered both women had outstanding warrants for routine misdemeanor offenses. The police officer who made the arrest told the Mississippi Department of Human Services that the child who was in the car with the two women was “abandoned,” despite the fact that it was the officer’s own arrest that forced the child to be separated from the mother.

Judge Shirley awarded custody to the baby’s grandmother, while also blocking the mother from coming into contact with the child until she paid off court-imposed fees.

The Clarion-Ledger’s report does not say how much money the mother owed in court fees, however local legal justice advocates say that unpaid fees do not justify separating a mother from a four-month-old child for 14 months.

“As a civil rights lawyer in Mississippi, I am no stranger to injustice, but for a judge to prohibit an impoverished mother from having any contact with her baby until monetary payments are made is shocking and repugnant,” said Cliff Johnson, the director of the Roderick and Solange MacArthur Justice Center at the University of Mississippi School of Law. “Such orders are tantamount to judicial kidnapping.”

Teacher Attacks Black Kid for Sitting Out POA

There is no law requiring anyone to either recite the Pledge of Allegiance or stand for the flag…

Somebody needs to lock up these violent Chumph fascists.

Quite simply, faced with the Russian election of white supremacists Chumph and has selection of Sessions and their attempt to bring back Jim Crow – the is little reason to celebrate our failed Democracy.

Michigan teacher ‘violently snatches’ black 6th-grader out of chair when he refuses to stand for pledge

A Michigan teacher has been put on leave after being accused of “violently snatching” a black student from his seat because he refused to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

According to WDIV, 6th grader Stone Chaney was sitting in his homeroom class at East Middle School in Farmington Hills in his first week at the school when he was grabbed from behind by the teacher.

“The teacher consultant comes up behind me and snatches me out of my chair violently,” Stone explained to WDIV while demonstrating on his father how he was hoisted out of his chair. “I was so confused. I didn’t know what was going on.”

According to the 12-year-old, he was sitting during the pledge as he has done without incident since he was in the second grade.

“I don’t stand because I don’t pledge to a flag. I pledge to God and family,” the student explained, adding that the following day, another teacher yelled at him for the same offense.

The student’s father, Brian Chaney, said that the decision to not stand comes from his son and that he supports it. “It’s his choice to sit I don’t make him sit. And they should respect that,” his father explained. Stone’s parents are thinking of moving him out of the school.

According to the school, they are investigating the incident while the teacher is out on suspension.

“The District fully supports the right of each student to participate or not in the daily Pledge. The teacher allegedly involved in the incident has been placed on administrative leave. At this time, the District cannot speculate about the outcome of the pending investigation,” reads a statement from the superintendent of Farmington Public Schools.

If She Were Black…

Hmmm… Unwed mother of two, by two different men. Right about now, if she were black the racist right would be singing the “personal responsibility”, “welfare queen” chorus. The other Sno’ Ho’…Indeed.

Bristol Palin’s hateful hypocrisy: She’s now a mother of two, but still the biggest child in the family

It must be very strange to be a former highly-compensated abstinence spokeswoman who is now the never-married mother of two children by two different fathers. It must take a fair degree of mental reconciling to be closely aligned with a political party that is so consistently and so vehemently disparaging of single mothers — well, at least when they’re not the daughters of their own former governors. But Bristol Palin somehow makes it look easy.

On December 24, the 25-year-old “Dancing With the Stars” veteran announced she’d given birth the day before to daughter Sailor Grace, and that “my heart just doubled.” Saying that “our family couldn’t be more complete,” she also shared a photo of her Tripp — who turned seven this week — meeting his baby sister.

The whole family seems delighted at the new arrival — Palin’s mother Sarah took time out of her burgeoning comedy career to share a message declaring Sailor “The best gift ever!” and saying, “Thank you, Bristol, for your strength and good heart and your love of life. The most important people in Bristol’s life were there to witness the miracle of Sailor Grace Palin’s arrival last night. Thank you for sharing the miracle with Piper, Marina, and me, Bri! And we thank Todd for taking care of the rest of the family during this most precious beginning of a great new chapter!”

Though Bristol’s ex-fiancé wasn’t included in Sarah Palin’s litany of her daughter’s “most important people” or given a last name credit, Dakota Meyer seemed to confirm his paternity on Christmas Eve with a tweet saying, “Best Christmas present ever!! I couldn’t be more proud of this little blessing.”

Bristol Palin is likely going to have her hands full for some time now, raising her two young children. But wouldn’t it terrific if now that’s got a daughter of her own, she could spend a little time to finally get more realistic about the world our girls and women live in?

I know it’s a long shot. When she announced, back in June, that she was expecting, Palin knew she was in for a heap of accusations of hypocrisy, and she stated firmly, “I do not want any lectures and I do not want any sympathy.” She also admitted, “I know this has been, and will be, a huge disappointment to my family, to my close friends, and to many of you….Tripp, this new baby, and I will all be fine, because God is merciful.” It was a plea for compassion — but one undermined when she abruptly turned around and lashed out at “these giddy a$$holes” and insisted, “I have never been a paid ‘abstinence spokesperson.’”

That’s a claim that seems to ignore her gig with the Candie’s Foundation and her speaker’s bureau listing, which put “abstinence” as her primary topic. Palin then soon after wrote a straight up ignorant, facts-challenged blog post about a Washington state birth control program. In August, she unsurprisingly jumped on the anti Planned Parenthood juggernaut, with a post about “dead babies.” And just earlier this month, she listed “Eleven selfish excuses women give to justify ending their pregnancies.” Her Instagram, meanwhile, contains jokey retweets imploring poor people, “Instead of burning the American flag, why don’t you burn your welfare checks?”

How does she have time to pick so many fights and spew so many half truths while raising a family? On Monday morning, she found time to post a video on Facebook mocking Kwanzaa. Talk about leaning in.

In spite of the obstacles she’s faced, in spite of the unjust shaming for her private life, Palin seems resolutely determined to demand she not be judged while judging others. She seems fine with ignoring how unsustainable the abstinence she built a tidy side-career preaching is. She is no longer the teen America first met when her mother was on the campaign trail. She is a woman and a mother of two. Maybe now it’s time for her to grow up.

Louisiana Officer Charged In SUV Shooting KIlling 6 YO Boy

This one has an interesting twist, which explains the rapid charging of the officers involved…

2 Louisiana Officers Charged With Second-Degree Murder in Killing of Boy, 6

The young victim – Jeremy Mardis

Two police officers have been arrested on charges of second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy during a pursuit of his father in a sport utility vehicle in central Louisiana, the state police said Friday.

The officers, Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Lt. Derrick Stafford, who were placed on administrative leave after the chase on Tuesday, also face charges of attempted second-degree murder, Col. Michael Edmonson, superintendent of the Louisiana State Police, said during a news conference on Friday.

The father, Chris Few, who was driving, was critically injured in the shooting. Mr. Few’s son, Jeremy Mardis, was killed after the police opened fire on the S.U.V.

The coroner said the boy was struck several times in the head and chest. An autopsy was performed on Wednesday, but a final report was not expected to be ready for eight weeks.

“He didn’t deserve to die like that and that’s what’s important,” Colonel Edmonson said Friday. “That little boy was buckled in the front seat of that vehicle and that was how he died.”

Colonel Edmonson said that over the past 72 hours, investigators had studied footage from body cameras, interviewed witnesses and listened to 911 recordings. He promised a “methodical and detail oriented investigation.”

He declined to say why the police began pursuing Mr. Few’s vehicle, or what caused them to open fire.

Describing the body camera footage, Colonel Edmonson said, “I can tell you as a father it was one of the most disturbing things I have witnessed.”

Two other police officers were involved in the chase, in addition to Officer Greenhouse and Lieutenant Stafford, the superintendent said, but he declined to say whether either of the other officers was suspected of wrongdoing.

He said investigators would follow the case “wherever this takes us” and that the state police had seized guns from all officers present during the shooting.

All four are officers with the Marksville, La., police who work part time as city marshals.

Norris Greenhouse Jr., left, and Lt. Derrick Stafford.

So THAT’s what it takes to see justice when a policeman wrongly kills a citizen.

Police Office Slams Teen to Ground After Schoolyard Tiff

Another Over-the-Top reaction to what could have been handled as a “Sit down son, we are going to have a serious talk” moment in more rational times.

This is the reason Police should not be used to control kids. While I am perfectly in line with the need for a teacher to be able to bop them upside the head in certain situations, this sort of “criminalization” of a child by Law Enforcement has no benefits to society, or to the relationship between the community and its Police force.

Video shows officer grabbing student’s throat, slamming him to ground

A 14-year-old high school student says a school resource officer used excessive force when he grabbed the teen by the throat after the student and another boy were involved in a scuffle at a Texas high school cafeteria.

A cellphone video taken Thursday by a third student shows the officer placing his hands around sophomore Gyasi Hughes’ throat at Round Rock High School and taking Hughes to the ground. The video was given to CBS affiliate KEYE-TV, and can be seen in the above player.

Hughes, who was suspended for fighting but not charged, told KEYE-TV that the officer also pushed him.

Hughes’ father, Kashka, told KXAN-TV in Austin that what happened was “unacceptable” and that he plans to seek charges against the officer, who has not been identified.

“The police officer that was actually in this particular situation, he should have been trained well enough to know that this is a 130-pound child and that the action that was taken was totally unnecessary,” the elder Hughes said. The family didn’t immediately return messages from The Associated Press on Saturday.

Round Rock police said in a statement that a school administrator was unable to stop the two students from fighting and was forced to have police intervene. The officers were trying to calm Hughes and walk him to another part of the building, but the teen tried to circumvent the officers and continue the fight with the other student, according to the statement.

“Officers were forced to detain him for his safety and the safety of others,” police said, also noting that the incident is “under review.”

The family said the altercation was over prescription athletic eyewear that the younger Hughes had asked a friend to hold for him but didn’t return.

Gyasi Hughes told KXAN-TV that he later apologized to the officer for yelling at him.

His father said he lectured his son on how to resolve conflicts without resorting to violence.

“All of my family are teachers, my mother is a teacher, my father is a principal and was a superintendent for a long time before he retired,” Kashka Hughes said. “I’ve definitely seen how the guards in the schools as well as how my dad handled various situations when kids were in certain altercations.”

Hughes’ friend, Sebastian Vazquez told KEYE-TV that he was eating lunch when he heard the commotion.

“In the beginning, I heard people be like ooh and stuff, and it was Gyasi and this other kid, they were pushing each other around,” he told KEYE.

But Vazquez says it was never a full-blown fight, and things got more tense when the two school officers showed up. “Both cops got him in the corner, so I pulled my phone out to start recording because that seemed odd,” said Vazquez.

Why the NRA Needs to Die

Gun crazies have been driving American policy through fear and extortion for a long time. Americans are the most armed country in the world outside of perhaps the Congo. This has gone above and beyond people who are legitimate sportsmen to supporting mass murders and gun crazies.

It needs to stop.

And before the gun nuts start squealing, I am a gun owner, ex competitive shooter, own a small collection going back to the 1860’s… And grew up hunting and fishing.

But I never needed a machine gun to kill a rabbit. See no need to constantly run around armed… And am sick and tired of his being the only country in the world which is not involved in an internal war…

Where folks can’t even go to school, drive down the street, or go to Church safely.

Shot to Death Before She Was Old Enough to Be Shot at School

Not yet halfway to her first birthday, Aavielle Nevaeh Wakefield was too young to be the victim of a school shooting.

But on the same day as the massacre at Umpqua Community College, little Aavielle proved that no age is too young to be fatally wounded by a stray bullet in America.

“Somebody was shooting at our car as we came through a street,” reported a caller to 911 in Cleveland. “And they shot the baby. The baby dead!”

“How old is the child?” the dispatcher asked.

“The baby is only 5 months old,” the caller said.

“Five months old… Male or female?” the dispatcher asked.

“Beg your pardon?”

“Male or female? Is it a boy or girl?”

“Female! Female!”

“Is she awake?”

“No!”

“Is she breathing?”

“No!”

Screaming could be heard in the background.

“That’s her mother holding her,” the caller explained.

“christian” School Kick 5 YO Out For Having Two Mommies

So much for Christians being persecuted in the US… Come on, bigoted morons – It’s a kid!

Why exactly would you want to hurt a small child for the “sins” of her Mother?

Christian school kicks out kindergartener because she has two moms

Sadly, nationwide marriage equality simply isn’t enough to inoculate all children of same-sex couples from the cruelty and indignity that is anti-gay discrimination.

The latest example comes from San Diego, California, where a five year-old girl was recently barred from starting the first day of kindergarten after her school changed its nondiscrimination policy following the Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage, reports the local ABC News affiliate KGTV.

Mt. Erie Christian Academy, a private institution that does not appear to take any public funds, updated its handbook this summer to reserve the right to discontinue the enrollment of any student it finds “in opposition to the biblical lifestyle,” citing at least one Bible passage that calls for homosexuals to be murdered:

Mt. Erie Christian Academy is a religious, Bible-believing institution providing education in a distinct Christian environment, and it believes that its biblical role is to work in conjunction with the home to mold students to be Christ like. On those occasions in which the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home is counter to or in opposition to the biblical lifestyle that the school teaches, the school reserves the right, within its sole discretion, to refuse admission of an applicant or to discontinue enrollment of a student. This includes, but is not necessarily limited to, living in, condoning or supporting sexual immorality; practicing homosexual lifestyle or alternative gender identity; promoting such practices; or otherwise having the inability to support the moral principles of the school (Leviticus 20:13a; Romans 1:21-27; Matthew 19:4-6; I Corinthians 6:9-20).

The new policy effectively barred one of the school’s pre-school students from entering kindergarten this school year.

The five-year old’s mother, Shenna (she asked that her last name be withheld) called the policy change “heartbreaking.” The stay at-home mother said the she was unaware of the school’s extreme anti-gay attitude and insisted that she wouldn’t not have subjected her daughter to such humiliation had she known of their discriminatory policy before enrolling at the academy.

“If we knew from the beginning that this was unacceptable, they didn’t condone or believe in this, if it was such a big deal, we would have never started her off there,” Sheena said. “I would never put my child’s emotional wellbeing in an unstable setting like that.”

Shenna said that although both her and her wife, whose is currently deployed with the Navy, are Christian, they never considered their sexuality to be in conflict with the faith or the school’s mission.

“What does our family life have to do with anyone else? Like no one’s gonna be in danger.”

She continued: “I want my baby to be safe when she grows up. I don’t want her to ever have to be discriminated against because of her lifestyle. That’s not fair.”

Shenna told KGTV that she is looking for legal recourse but that her daughter continues to be out of the classroom as they search for an alternative.

“I miss my friends. I miss my teachers,” the child told the news station.
