Black Deaths Matter

Police overreach, brutality, and killings are just one part of black American frustration with their Police Departments. The other is the massive ineffectiveness in solving or stopping violent crime.

Black Deaths Matter

On the morning of March 11, 2008, shortly after the bus picked up his twin brothers for preschool, Emill Smith stopped by the house of his mother, Valerie Maxwell, in Chester, Pennsylvania. At 22, he was stocky and athletic, with dark eyes, faint facial hair, and a cursive tattoo on his right hand: “R.I.P. James,” in memory of his father, who died in his sleep when Emill was 12. They talked for a while, and he asked if he could pick the twins up from school that afternoon so they could spend time together.

That afternoon, Emill took the four-year-olds to McDonald’s and his place before dropping them off at Valerie’s: “They almost set the apartment on fire,” he joked. “Here, you can have them.” As he walked out, he stopped.

“Mom.”

“Yes?”

“I love you.”

“I love you more.”

At 7:15 p.m. that night, Valerie dialed Emill’s number to make sure he was home in time for his 7:30 curfew, part of his probation for disorderly conduct in a domestic dispute. No answer. A few minutes later, one of Emill’s friends rushed in and collapsed.

Emill had been to a neighborhood bar, where a security camera recorded him dancing, hanging out by the pool table, and kissing an old friend on the forehead before leaving. As he got into his car, someone walked up and shot him several times. No one was ever arrested in connection with the crime, and odds are no one will be. That’s because, while Chester has one of the nation’s highest homicide rates, it has a far lower than average “clearance rate.” Not even one-third of last year’s 30 homicides have been solved, a rate less than half the national average. Since 2005, 144 killings have gone unsolved.

FOR GENERATIONS, BLACK frustration with policing has been best described in a two-part statement: Cops don’t care enough to solve crimes in our neighborhoods—they just come and harass our kids. NovelistWalter Mosley even built a best-selling detective series around a tough private investigator who does all the serving and protecting that cops won’t do on the black side of town.

The bitter irony is that it was this same complaint that helped spawn the aggressive policing tactics now under attack from Ferguson to New York City. In the 1980s, when crack and heroin syndicates swept through black neighborhoods, black parents and pastors were some of the first and loudest voices to demand a war on drugs. What they got was “broken windows” policing—an emphasis on curbing petty offenses to prevent more serious crime.

What they also got were mandatory minimum sentences for shoplifters, indiscriminate stop-and-frisk sweeps, and deadly choke holds on men selling loose cigarettes. There’s little evidence that these tactics contributed much to the national decline in crime. But they did erode trust in law enforcement across many communities—leaving places like Chester increasingly bereft of the protection they badly need. With residents both fearful of police and worried about being targeted for talking to them, detectives can’t find the witnesses they need to solve crimes, breeding further distrust and a vicious cycle of frustration. A 2014 New York Daily News investigation found that in 2013, police solved about 86 percent of homicides in which the victim was white. For black victims, the number was just 45 percent. And in high-minority communities like Chester, says David Kennedy, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, clearance rates for murder—and even more so for nonfatal shootings—can get “pathetically low. They can easily fall down to single digits.”…Read the Rest Here

When It’s Not Black-on-Black Crime

Check out the following chart. It track the number of Mass Shootings per day in the US for Calendar Year 2015 –

Now – Most (not all) Mass Shooters are white, and most (not all) of their victims are white. They can occur anywhere, from the shopping mall, in Church, or at the Movie Theater. They are not based on economics or limited by location. The biggest threat to white, middle class America is one of their own, walking into a school and blasting away at everyone in sight – not a pair of black gang-bangers, within 7 miles of an urban center, going at it Gangsta style on the street.

So why the conservative interest in black-on-black crime?

Just another way racism makes conservatives stupid.

And why is the FBI covering up for this?

Virginia killings: America is now averaging more than one mass shooting per day in 2015

August 26 is the 238th day of the year. And with the fatal shooting in Virginia — in which a gunman shot himself after killing two reporters and wounding one more person — plus the shooting of four during a Minneapolis home invasion, the number of mass shooting incidents in the US has risen to 247 for the year.

These numbers are compiled by the moderators of the GunsAreCool subreddit, a sarcastically named community that tracks gun violence in America. They define “mass shooting” as any single incident in which at least four people are shot, including the gunman. The tracker comes in for some criticism because its definition is broader than the FBI’s definition, which requires three or more people to be killed by gunfire. But the broader definition is nonetheless a useful one, because it captures many high-profile instances of violence — like the recent Lafayette theater shootings — that don’t meet the FBI’s criteria.

Some gun rights advocates — like John Lott of the Crime Prevention Research Center — object that the broader definition includes a lot of gang killings and domestic disputes that the average person wouldn’t necessarily consider a “mass shooting.” But there’s an uncomfortable assumption here that some crime victims’ lives should be valued differently — or are less worthy of  attention — than others.

A more expansive definition of “mass shooting” underscores the extent to which firearms make it relatively easy to hurt large numbers of people in a very short time. With a gun, you’re able to inflict bodily harm on a person once they’re in your line of sight. With something like a knife or your hands, you need to get right up close to a person.

There’s no easy fix to gun violence in this country. As gun rights proponents are quick to point out, municipalities with strict gun laws, like Chicago and D.C., see more than their fair share of gun crime. But it’s nevertheless a fact that the level of gun violence we see in the US is like nothing seen in other wealthy Western nations.

Mitch Landrieu, Mayor of New Orleans Effort to End Gun Violence

Katrina didn’t just rip apart the City of New Orleans, it’s aftermath exposed it’s issues with corruption and violence for all to see. Mitch is the son of former New Orleans mayor and Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development,Moon Landrieu and the brother of the former U.S. Senator from Louisiana, Mary Landrieu. He has the genes for the job, and is a welcome departure from former Mayor Ray Nagin, who now spends his days in prison.

He has some interesting things to say.

It’s Mitch Landrieu’s mission to curb the spike in fatal shootings among African American men in his city.

About 6,000 African American men have been murdered in the city of New Orleans since 1980. As Jeffrey Goldberg writes in the September issue of The Atlantic, Mayor Mitch Landrieu has made it a priority to curb the violence. In this video, Landrieu speaks with Goldberg about his belief that black lives don’t matter only when they’re taken by police—they matter when they’re taken by anyone.

Mayor Landrieu and Ta-Nehisi Coates…

Beatings, Beat Downs, and Just Plain Murder

OK – I’m going to go there, to the playground of black conservative race pimps…

I’m sure this one is STORY ONE, not only on every single black conservative site, every white supremacist site, and good majority of the the bleeding hearts black folks sites…

So why go there?

Simple. More black babies will die in Chicago due to inadequate, unavailable, or poor neo-natal and post natal care in the first year of their lives than are killed by these street thugs.

So where’s the outrage?

The yearly murder rate for young black males was 152 for every 100,000 people (between the ages of 14 and 29) between 1987 and 1989. Hispanic males were slain at the rate of 102 per 100,000, six times the 17 per 100,000 rate of whites that age.

According to a 2006 report from the Chicago Department of Public Health, the infant mortality rate (from birth to 1 year old) in Chicago stood well above the national rate at 9.6 deaths per 1,000. That converts to a figure of 960 per 100,000. When you add in the number of babies who die before they are born – that number doubles.

The next argument you are going to hear from black conservative race pimps is that we are in a “crime wave”. That’s a crock as well.

Black Murder Rates 1976 to 2007

Black Murder Rates 1976 to 2007

According to U.S. Census data, the number of blacks aged 15 to 19 rose by about 15 percent between 2000 and 2007.

So even if any individual black teen’s propensity for crime was unchanged over this time period, the aggregate amount of black-teen crime would have risen by 15 percent. In other words…  just based on changes in population, the number of perpetrators would have been expected to rise from a little over 800 to nearly 1,000. Knowing that, the actual rise to roughly 1,150 doesn’t seem that noteworthy.

The Mortality rate for teens – 15-19 in Wyoming, 85 per 100,000 due to automabile accidents, the majority of which are fouled by DUI is the same as the black murder rate in Chicago for the same age group.

The crack epidemic, fueled by the availability of cheap crack cocaine was a crime epidemic – not what is going on today.

Now, to make the conservative race baiters happy – there is this video –

This thug officer has been fired, and charged with 4th Degree Assault, and is on trial currently…

Just like the black thugs who murdered Darrian Albert.

Real SOB when the system works like it’s supposed to in getting criminals off the streets, or off our Police Forces.

Now, about reopening Devil’s Island…
