Black Man Attacked By 5 White Supremacists in Charlottesville – Felony Charge for Fighting Back

Let’s see…Young black guy standing in a garage watching the “festivities” between protesters in Charlottesville a month ago, get jumped by a gang of KKK/neo-Nazi types, beaten with stick and flagpoles…And the black guy gets charges with a “Felony” for defending himself by striking one of his attackers.

Yeah…Must have been because the half dozen KKK/neo-nazi types were so vastly outnumbered by one black guy.

What possibly could be wrong with this picture?

Black man attacked at white nationalist rally in Charlottesville faces felony charge

A black man brutally beaten at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville is now facing a felony charge related to the August attack.

A local magistrate on Monday issued an arrest warrant for DeAndre Harris on an unlawful wounding charge after an accuser, whom police did not identify, claimed to have been injured by the 20-year-old during the brawl, authorities told local media.

S. Lee Merritt, a civil attorney for Harris, told The Washington Post the charge was “clearly retaliatory” and described the accuser as a member of a white supremacist group. He maintained that Harris did not instigate the fight.

“We find it highly offensive and upsetting, but what’s more jarring is that he’s been charged with the same crime as the men who attacked him,” he said.

Merritt added that it was “highly unusual” for the warrant to come from a magistrate rather than police, and suggested that the accuser had previously tried to implicate Harris in the violence without success. He said his client would turn himself into police in the coming days.

In a statement provided to WVIR, the Charlottesville Police Department said the alleged victim went to the magistrate’s office in person to explain what happened. After discussing the accuser’s story with a detective, the magistrate issued the warrant.

Harris was marching in opposition to the rally on Aug. 12 when a scuffle broke out between a group of white supremacists and several counterprotesters at a downtown parking garage.

Videos from the scene showed a white supremacist thrusting a Confederate flag pole at a counterprotester and Harris swinging a flashlight at the man. Six white supremacists then descended on Harris, kicking him and striking him with wooden sticks as he lay curled up on the pavement, as The Post has reported.

Images of the brawl and Harris’s bloodied face went viral, prompting a frenzied campaign on social media to identify his attackers.

Two men were later arrested in the attack on Harris, who said he suffered a concussion, a head laceration that required 10 staples and other injuries. Both were charged with malicious wounding, a felony…

Another Unarmed Man Murder by Cop in Utah

I guess in Utah they don’t issue throw away guns to be planted on victims – so the bad COps have to make do with pen knives.

Let’s see, a guy 15′ away, running away from you is a real danger! That 2 1/2″ knife (which he probably didn’t have before it was planted) sure is dangerous 15′ away.

Uber Driver Boots Racist Trumpazoids

Another calm brother ends a bad situation of racists acting badly

WATCH: Uber driver calmly boots ‘white privilege’ boasting bro for calling him a ‘b*tch-ass n**ger

In a video uploaded to YouTube, a black Uber driver boots a group of young white people out of his car after they begin boosting about “white privilege.” The ride ends with one man calling the driver a “b*tch ass n**ger.”

In the video, flagged by The Root, the driver can be seen patiently waiting while the group climbs in and scrambles for seats. One man bizarrely states ”white privilege” as a woman carrying a beer bottle is relegated to the back seat and knocks open a video screen on the car’s ceiling.

After some back and forth with one rider who took the front passenger seat, the driver asks if he’s okay, because “you’re sweating like crazy.”

The driver then insists his passenger put his seat belt on as he begins to drive, before asking the same passenger to not touch his belongings that are in the front, which gets some unintelligible push-back.

“I need you to get out,” he states as he pulls over.

“Me?” the front seat passengers asks, to which the driver politely states, “Yes. Please I need you all to get out.”

“You’re a f*cking joke,” the passengers replies.

“No, I’m not. White privilege, leave” the driver shoots back.

“Get the f*ck out, bro,” the man replies. “You’re a f*cking — f*cking b*tch ass n**ger.”

That is when the driver leaves the car and the passengers exit, where a contentious argument can be barely be heard with the driver accusing them of being racists.

A typical racist, violent Chumph supporter threatens anti-Trump protesters with a knife in Berkley

‘Major Trump supporter’ accused of fatally stabbing black man following bus stop political argument

Police say an argument about sports and politics led to a fatal stabbing in Oakley on Saturday.

Phillip Wade, 38, of Antioch was arrested for allegedly stabbing 57-year-old Anthony Johnson of Pittsburg multiple times at a bus stop in Oakley on Saturday afternoon. According to police, Johnson and Wade were arguing over sports and politics on a Tri Delta Transit bus.

The argument continued after both men got off the bus on Main Street near Charles Way.

Wade then allegedly produced a knife that he used to stab Johnson multiple times. A witness passing by stopped his vehicle and pulled out a gun and told Wade to get on the ground until police arrived.

Without knowing who was who, the police took the witness and the suspect into custody, but later released the witness.

Johnson was transported to the hospital, but later died from injuries sustained in the assault.

Johnson’s brother, James Johnson, said that “Tony” was not a violent man, but that he liked to socialize a lot and was well-known in Pittsburg.

“He just talked a lot. He could talk to anybody and sometimes he would talk loud,” James Johnson said. “He socialized a lot and he talks, but he wasn’t a man to be violent like that.”

Tony’s brother said that Tony had moved from Alabama back home to Pittsburg three years ago  after his wife passed away.

Lavonda Harts, Anthony Johnson’s niece, said her uncle was passionate about life and loved to talk about sports and politics.

“He was very quick with his words and everyone always has a joke that he’s told them,” Harts said. “He left some funny jokes with anyone he ever met.”

The incident marks the third stabbing in six years for Wade.

In March of 2011, Wade stabbed 23-year-old Justin Garza in the Brentwood BART park-and-ride after an argument on the train carried into the parking lot. Garza survived the incident.

Then in August of 2013, Wade fatally stabbed 49-year-old Kann Cendejas, a homeless veteran, at a Chevron gas station in the 3200 block of Delta Fair Boulevard in Antioch.

Antioch police did not return calls for comment on this case, but Wade’s friend, Gabriel Desta, said he was released after a few days.

“He’s had many altercations over the years and it’s gotten more severe,” Desta said. “He was never like this before. He’s been very vocal ever since I met him, but lately he was getting paranoid. Unusually paranoid.”

According to Desta, Wade had been taking a lot of medication for seizures and started telling Desta that people were talking about him, even when the people in question were too far away to be heard.

“The other day at Mel’s Diner, he told a waitress that he would stab a group of black guys there, saying they were talking bad about him, but they weren’t talking about him,” Desta said.

Wade’s Facebook page outlines increasingly hostile statements and threats towards Muslims and African-Americans. On May 19, Wade posted a threatening racist statement concerning former president Barack Obama along with the gun emoji and the emoji of a man wearing a turban.

Desta said that Wade could be prejudiced at times, but described him as “more of a follower,” who became a “major Trump supporter.”

The victim in Saturday’s fatal stabbing was black.

On Monday, Oakley police chief Chris Thorsen said they do not believe the incident was racially motivated, but continue to investigate.

“Alt-Reich’ Hater Murders Black ROTC Grad on U-MD Campus

Another one of those Dylaan Roof types randomly attacks and kills a black man waiting for a cab. Another racist Trumpazoid…Another murder.

Black ROTC cadet stabbed to death by member of ‘Alt-Reich Nation’ racist Facebook group

A black ROTC cadet set to graduate from Bowie State University this week was stabbed to death by a white University of Maryland student who’s a member of a racist online hate group, the Baltimore Sun reports.

Richard Collins III, 23, was visiting UMD this graduation weekend when he was attacked by Christoper Sean Urbanski, 22. Collins and two friends were awaiting an Uber ride around 3 a.m. Saturday morning when an “intoxicated and incoherent” Urbanski stabbed him. Authorities who reviewed videotape of the incident described the attack as unprovoked.

Police charged Urbanski, a member of the Facebook group, “Alt-Reich Nation,” with first-degree murder Sunday. The FBI is investigating the stabbing as a possible hate crime.

“Making a determination of motive especially if it’s a crime based on hate it’s something that has to be done with the totality of the circumstances,” FBI Special Agent Gordon Johnson told ABC News. Johnson also described the victim as a “national treasure.”

“This is a terribly, terribly dark time for [the family], and we can’t forget about that,” Johnson said.

Family spokesman, the Rev. Darryl L Godlock, said Collins will be remembered as a bright and funny family man who hoped to follow his veteran father’s footsteps. Last Thursday, Collins was commissioned into the Army as a second Lieutenant. He was set to graduate from Bowie State on Tuesday.

“He wanted to make his parents proud of him so he went into the military to serve his country,” Godlock said. “It was a great opportunity for him to advance forward and make the most out of his career.”

“[Collins] wanted to be a general of the United States Army, that was his ultimate goal,” friend and classmate Vidal Adams said. “He was the definition of a leader.”

Police originally said there was no indication race played a role in Collins’ murder, but University of Maryland Police Chief David Mitchell told the Root they’re investigating the Facebook group “Alt-Reich Nation,” of which Urbanski was a member.

“When I look at the information that’s contained on that website, suffice it to say that it’s despicable, it shows extreme bias against women, Latinos, persons of Jewish faith and especially African-Americans,” Mitchell said at a press conference Saturday.

“It never gets any worse than this,” Mitchell added. “When I sat with the victim’s father, who is a military veteran, and his pastor and we shed tears together.”

“I can tell you, it rips your heart out,” he concluded.

A funeral for Collins will be held Monday.

A black Samurai in Japan? The Hidden Story of Yasuke

A black Samurai in Japan in the 16th Century? Truth is stranger than fiction as the story of Yasuke is planned to hit the Big Screen.

Forgotten Tale Of Japan’s First Black Samurai Bound For The Big Screen

The Japanese revered the African former slave in the 16th century.

There is very little recorded history on Yasuke, the young African man believed to be Japan’s first black samurai, but his story may soon be told on the silver screen.

Lionsgate has asked screenwriter Gregory Wilden, the creator of the 1986 film “Highlander,” to write a script for an action drama based on Yasuke’s centuries-old story, according to the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline.

The Lionsgate film “is based on the true story of an African whose journey to Japan comes with conflicting background stories,” Widen told Deadline last week. “The one I’ve chosen is that he was a slave soldier after the fall of Abysinnian Bengal, a black kingdom run by Ethiopians.”

In that story, Yasuke was sold into slavery and “found himself in the care of Alessandro Valignano, an Italian missionary,” Widen explained.  “They formed a bond, and when there were complications in Rome, he was sent to Japan and took Yasuke with him,” he added.

Yasuke was an African slave in his early 20s when Valignano brought him on a missionary trip to Japan in 1579, according to historical accounts that Oxy reviewed. He stood out there because of his tall stature and dark skin and he soon became a local celebrity. His real name is unknown, but locals called him Yasuke in Japan ― likely a Japanese version of his birth name.

When Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga learned of Yasuke and his impressive strength, he hired the young African as a feudal bodyguard. Under Nobunaga, Yasuke quickly rose in the ranks to become a well-respected samurai warrior who spoke fluent Japanese.

“They presented him with a blade, and he went to work,” Widen told Deadline.

Parts of Yasuke’s story lived on in a 1916 Japanese children’s book called Kuro-suke, about a young, black samurai who often dreams of his parents in Africa.

KKK Members Renounce Membership After Meeting Black Musician

The amazing story of Darryl Davis, a well known black musician who reached out to KKK Members – and through taking and developing relationships has caused a number of KKK Members to renounce the KKK, and their racist beliefs. Proving you can deprogram bigots from the constant stream of racism from Fox News and Brietbart by showing them the truth.

Darryl Davis, a renowned black American blues musician, took the initiative to reach out to members of the Ku Klux Klan, the US white supremacist organisation, which has led to more than 200 leaving the group.

Klan members leave the KKK after befriending black musician

He has travelled across the country, sometimes with ex-KKK members, to give lectures aimed at curbing racism.

Davis has written a book on the KKK called Klandestine Relationships. And an award-winning documentary about his unique efforts to combat racial hatred – Accidental Courtesy – is set to be aired across the United States in February.

Hate acts have been on the rise in the US since president-elect Donald Trump, who made many statements against minority groups during the election campaign, saw a drastic rise in popularity last year.

Davis talked to Al Jazeera about his journey in confronting the KKK, and what Trump’s election means for the country.

Al Jazeera: What inspired you to reach out to the KKK? Davis: My parents worked in the US foreign service so I was an American embassy brat. I spent a lot of my youth in the 1960s living overseas and when I attended schools abroad my classmates were from around the world.

At that time there was not that kind of diversity at home in the US. When I would come back to the US I would be in all black schools or black-and-white newly integrated schools.

When I was overseas I felt like I was living 12 to 15 years ahead of my time, and when I came back home I did not understand why people had a problem with skin tone.It was the norm for me, but not my country.

One time I was attacked because of the colour of my skin. And that made me ask: How can you hate me when you don’t even know me? No one had been able to answer it.

So who better to ask that question than those who hate others that do not look like them? I reached out to Klan members all over the country. Right here in the state of Maryland where I live, I would put out these questions, but was never set out to change anybody and never under the impression they could be.

I wanted to know why they made a judgement on my ability to learn and work … and why they assumed we all sold drugs, raped white women, or were on wellfare.

Over a course of time, a number of them began shedding their racist ideologies and left the Klan.

I have changed a number of hearts and minds by having these conversations. They started to see me as a human being, as someone who wants the same as them.

If you sit with your worst enemy for five minutes, you will find out you have something in common and if for 10 minutes, you will discover more similarities.

If you build on those commonalties, the things you do not have in common matter less and friendship can be formed. Even if you disagree – and this has to do with all matters, whether its about abortion or whatever – when two enemies are talking they are not fighting.

They may be yelling and fighting to make a point. But without talking the ground may be fertile for violence.

The problem is that in the US media, people talk about each other or at each other but not with each other. People refuse to do that. Many will hide behind social media, but they will not sit and meet with the person.

Al Jazeera: How many KKK members left the group because of your efforts? Davis: I know that I have directly been the impetus for up to 40 Klan members leaving and indirectly for about 200 others.

I continue to get emails from those who I don’t even know after they hear me speak or read my book.

The leader of the KKK’s Maryland branch and I became friends. After he and his top members quit, their group fell apart here.

There is no more organised racist organisation in Maryland.

Al Jazeera: What type of conversations would you have with them and what did you learn from that? Davis: I would find out why the joined the Klan, what their goals were, and what their educational background was.

And what you find out is this that the common thread is hatred and ignorance. In terms of education and jobs, they are all over the board.

They come from all walks of life: college dropouts, lawyers, and doctors. We even had presidents who were KKK members.

Al Jazeera: What do you think about Donald Trump’s impact on racism in the country?Davis: I think Donald Trump is the best thing that happened to the country. He is not the best choice for the presidency.

But as a residual effect of the election all these racist people are coming out and making themselves known.

America is hypocritical because we deny racism exists. Now they can no longer deny it. Now we are seeing “KKK” spray painted on peoples cars. Talks on racism have been taboo, but now more conversations about it are starting.

You can not solve any problem unless you see it and then you can talk about it. This country did not want to address racism. Well, now they are seeing it and are obligated to address it.

Fort Worth Again – Cop Shoots Man in Back Who is Walking Away

Yet another over the top Cop in Fort Worth Texas, shooting a man in the back from 30′ away, walking away, who supposedly had a box cutter…

Texas officer shot black man as he walked away, dashcam video suggests

A police dashcam video appears to show a Texas officer shooting a black man as he is walking away from the officer and not posing any immediate threat.

A lawyer for David Collie released a copy of the video showing the July encounter with a Fort Worth officer and a Tarrant County sheriff’s deputy. The officer and deputy were off duty at the time and working a security detail together at an apartment complex, attorney Nate Washington said on Wednesday.

He said Collie was shot in the back, leaving him paralyzed.

This release of dashcam footage comes on the heels of another recording involving alleged police misconduct in Fort Worth posted on Facebook Live last week. It showed an officer aggressively arresting a woman and her two daughters.

Washington said he released the video to show that last week’s incident was not an isolated case.

“Many members of our community have been assaulted, handled roughly by Fort Worth police officers,” Washington said. “To be clear, we believe the vast majority of police officers are good and decent people.”

Police at the time were searching for two shirtless black men who they believed had committed a robbery near a gas station, Washington said. Authorities said in a news release they issued at the time that Collie had pulled a box cutter from his pocket and pointed it at the officers.

Collie was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant but a grand jury declined to indict him.

Fort Worth police told NBC 5 that they would not comment until an internal investigation was complete. “In order to abide by state law, there is a process that we have to follow for the fairness of all the parties involved,” the department said. “Once the investigation has concluded, we will provide you with the results.”

Collie, 33, was walking from work to a friend’s apartment when the officers approached him in the patrol vehicle, Washington said. It was the Fort Worth officer who shot Collie, Washington said, and the video appears to show the officer firing his weapon about 10 seconds after exiting the vehicle, as Collie walked away.
The video was obtained about three weeks ago from the Tarrant County district attorney’s office through an open records request, Washington said.

The attorney also said he released the video on Tuesday at a news conference at Collie’s insistence because Collie was tired of comments made to his mother by people assuming he must have done something wrong.

Washington said Collie wanted to make clear he “didn’t do anything to threaten an officer”.

In the incident that prompted Washington to release the video, cellphone footagecaptured a white Fort Worth officer last week wrestling a black woman to the ground and then arresting her and her two daughters. The officer appeared to be argumentative and escalate the encounter with the woman, who had called police following an encounter between her son and a neighbor. The video has been viewed millions of times.

‘I don’t want to sit next to black people’: NY woman stabs black man in face after he offers his subway seat

A woman has been taken into custody after allegedly stabbing a transgender black man in his face when he offered his seat Sunday night on the subway, only to have her say, “I don’t want to sit next to black people.”

According to PIX11, Stephanie Pazmino, 30, was taken into custody and charged with assault as a hate crime, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon after assaulting Ijan DaVonte Jarrett.

According to Jarrett, he offered his seat to Pazmino who refused before turning to her companion and saying in Spanish that she didn’t want to sit next to a black person.

“I got up anyway and said to her that she didn’t have to sit next to me,” Jarrett, told the New York Daily News. “I took a seat across from her and just forgot all about it.”

According to Jarret, the woman attacked him by punching him as attempted to get off at his stop, and that he didn’t know he had been stabbed until bystanders stepped in to help.

In addition to being slashed in the face by Pazmino, Jarrett was also stabbed in his left arm. The police recovered the two inch knife Pazmino used to stab Jarrett when she was arrested in the street.

Jarret was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.

Did Black Man Burn Down Church And Blame it on Trump?

The “motive” being in Mississippi…They beat he hell out of the accused. Have some questions about this one.

Congregation Member Charged With Burning Black Church In Mississippi

A motive has not been released in the case.

The man who was arrested in the burning and vandalizing of a black church in Mississippi is a member of its congregation, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Authorities charged Andrew McClinton, 45, of Leland, Mississippi, with first-degree arson of a place of worship. A motive has not been released in the case.

There were no reported injuries in the incident, which took place just a few days before the Nov. 8 election. The majority of the damage was to the main sanctuary of Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville. The words “Vote Trump” were also spray-painted along the side of the building.

Even though pro-Donald Trump graffiti was found on the church, officials “do not believe it was politically motivated,” Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney told the AP.

“There may have been some efforts to make it appear politically motivated,” Chaney said.

Police released a photo of McClinton on Wednesday:

Greenville Mayor Errick Simmons said last month that the incident was “an attack on the black church and the black community.” A GoFundMe page was set up to raise money to repair the church amid national outcry, and secured more than $200,000 in two days.

Michigan Police Abuse Disabled Black Man

Un-freakin-believable! And the usual cover-up by Police authorities…

A disabled black man, with leg braces to be able to stand up, a walker, and a cane, pleads with officers to give him his walker as they drag him brutally to an awaiting police car, and then refuse to unlock his leg braces so he can get in the seat.

‘I can’t get up without my walker’: Black disabled man pleads with officers forcefully arresting him

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQjs1C2QbYs

Police in Battle Creek, Michigan have opened an investigation after a video circulated of a man being brutally arrested on Thursday, Dec. 15, WZZM 13 reports.

The victim of the abuse is 28-year-old Dawan Gordon, a black man described as paraplegic in reporting from the Free Thought Project. Gordon was arrested after a patrol officer tried to stop him. Reportedly, the officer knew that Gordon was driving without a license and had arrest warrants.

Even so, the footage of the arrest show that Gordon’s arrest was not carefully handled; instead, he was forcefully dragged by police, who also did not listen to the man’s pleas to unlock his leg braces.

The officers are heard yelling at the man, who is shouting that he is unable to get up after being dragged from his car.

“You dragged me out of the car bro. Look what you just did to me,” the man shouts. He says, “I can’t get up without my walker.” He pleads with officers to help him, but the officers forcefully drag him to the squad car as he shouts in pain.

According to a press release from the Battle Creek Police, the incident, which shows “inappropriate” treatment of the driver by police, is being investigated.

On Friday afternoon, police Chief Jim Blocker said of the incident, “There was no use of force by the officers. He did have to be lifted and he had to be carried and he was using a cane and walker and he didn’t want to use those and officers had to assist him to a patrol vehicle.”

Blocker added, “Right now we don’t see any policy or procedural violations.” Both of the officers involved in the incident will continue working.

The driver was taken to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo where he received medical services before being released to police custody. Gordon is presently being held at Calhoun County jail where he awaits arraignment.

Black Man Literally Gets Arrested for Walking Down the Street

UN-freaking believable. This sidewalks in this section of the road were closed while under repair. A cop pulls up and arrests a black man for walking along the white lane to get past the construction.

Video Shows Black Man Being Arrested For Apparently Walking In Street

The NAACP has since slammed the police officer’s actions as “dehumanizing and degrading.”

Cell phone video of a black man’s arrest is drawing outrage with footage showing the man being handcuffed after allegedly walking in the street where a sidewalk was under construction.

In the seven-minute video, posted to YouTube Wednesday, the man is first seen arguing with a white Edina, Minnesota officer who tightly holds the back of his jacket in an apparent attempt to prevent him from running away.

“You’re walking down the middle of the street,” the officer says in the video, as he appears to forcefully pull the man toward the center lane and around a parked car.

“I’m on the damn white line!” answers the man. “You can’t just put your hands on me like that!”

The woman filming the incident is repeatedly heard suggesting to the police officer that, instead of arresting the man, he show him where to walk.

“He’s scared, sir. It’s scary,” the woman calls out during the heated scene.“It’s because he’s black,” she adds, in a lower voice. The Minnesota NAACP identified the woman as Janet Rowles.

The city, responding to the video in a statement Friday, confirmed that one of two surrounding sidewalks were closed because of construction but said that the video only captured a portion of the incident….

“Watching that video and seeing a black man being manhandled and emasculated by Edina Police was not only painful and humiliating, it was a vivid reminder that blacks are still too-often seen as second class citizens in the State of Minnesota and in this nation,” stated Nekima Levy-Pounds, a civil rights attorney and president of the Minneapolis NAACP. “It is sad to say, but that man in the video could easily have been the next Philando Castile or Jamar Clark, two unarmed black men who were killed by police within the last year.”

Rowles, the woman who filmed the scene, also spoke out against the man’s treatment, which she called “overzealous.”

“There was absolutely no reason for the officer to stop him from walking. I easily passed him in my vehicle because he was hugging the right side next to the construction, literally walking on the white line that marks the shoulder,” she said in the NAACP’s release. “I have no interest in vilifying the police, but obviously I got out of my car in the first place because I perceive the pedestrian might not get treated fairly because of his ethnicity.”

In addition to asking for an apology, the NAACP has asked that an outside investigation be conducted into the incident and that the officer be suspended without pay.

The police department could not immediately be reached for comment Sunday; nor could the man whom the NAACP identified as the person arrested.

Police Murder of Terrance Sterling in DC

This one in DC three weeks ago. The officer fired from inside a patrol car into moving traffic in a direct violation of DC Police rules, There was no threat to the officers, Sterling was unarmed.

Black Lives Matter DC raises questions about DC Police Union chairman

It has been three weeks since a D.C. police officer shot and killed Terrence Sterling. Despite the release of the police body camera footage and the officer’s name, there are still questions about what is going on behind the scenes of the investigation, especially since his death was ruled a homicide. Now, the Black Lives Matter movement is questioning the D.C. Police Union’s chairman and the impact his past will have on future proceedings.

Representatives for Black Lives Matter DC said a closed door meeting was held on Tuesday after the D.C. Police Union reached out to them. The meeting lasted about an hour and a half, but the group said they came out of the meeting with even more questions.

“I wanted him to know that this was bigger than just this case,” said April Goggans of Black Lives Matter DC. “That this case was indicative of all things that we’ve been saying – the way that it’s being handled.”

Black Lives Matter DC continues to question transparency in the Sterling case. Following the closed door meeting, the group’s words towards D.C. Police Union chairman Matthew Mahl are personal.

Black Lives Matter DC said in a news release that “Sergeant Mahl is no stranger to criminal behavior on the job,” citing a use of force incident back in 2015.

Documents, including the use of force report, obtained by FOX 5 confirmed, “Sergeant Mahl struck a handcuffed prisoner in the face after he was kicked in the groin by the prisoner.” Two separate review boards found Mahl’s use of force was unjustified and recommended a suspension that could have meant his termination from the force.

But sources confirmed to FOX 5 his suspension was quietly overturned by D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier just days after Mahl became police union chairman. Sources said it was an unprecedented move.

“To dismiss his case of police brutality the same week that he becomes president, I think that merged the solidarity between the [police] department and the [police] union,” said Goggans. “I think his idea of doing that is to build power.”

According to sources, disciplinary action against Mahl includes a police-involved shooting in 2007 and two unpaid suspensions in 2013 and 2015.
