Anderson Cooper Gets It on Haiti

I arrived in Haiti for the first time, shortly after the major News organizations had left to pursue other stories. They were still digging up bodies,

Now, I have travelled quite a bit on business to places I am sure are on the Chumph’s “shithole” list. Met some good folks, as well as some really bad folks.

What impressed me about Haiti is the people. You watch them and they are constantly moving. An automobile is a luxury item, so they walk. You don’t see guys standing on a street corner with a bottle of wine… They are poor as hell, but to my experience hustle to make a dime. Being poor isn’t a crime, and often is due to circumstance in the Third World.

Turns out Baby Doc, the last, late Haitian Dictator laundered money through Trump Towers.

Cornell Belcher Takes on Herman Cain’s Rhetoric on CNN

Cornell Belcher unloads on Herman Cain’s “brainwash” statement…

Bad quality – but the enitre broadcast segment. Good back and forth with Ari Fleischer.

Belcher hits the nail on the head – but I wish he had come at it a little differently. The real issue is WHO Cain is playing to and WHY. And why would that audience support Cain’s regurgitation of racist right wing talking points?

Street Battles Between Pro and Anti Mubarek Supporters. Anderson Cooper News Crew Attacked

Egypt appears to be descending into Civil War. Pro and anti Government groups have been battling in the streets, with reports of over 400 injured in Cairo and 1 dead in the violence. This report from Anderson Cooper whose News Crew was caught and attacked by pro-Mubarek forces…

So far, the Army does not appear to be taking sides.

At one point riders on horeseback and camel charged the crowd swinging whips –

This situation is increasingly touch and go.

President Obama apparently has directly told President Mubarek that he needs to leave now.

Spike Lee – “BP, Oil Companies, the Government – They All In Cahoots”!

Mr President –

“One time, go off!” director Spike Lee urged on CNN’s “AC 360°.” “If there’s any one time to go off, this is it, because this is a disaster.”

Here’s the deal. This United States ship of state has been reduced to a leaky old scow by years of mismanagement, “Starve the Beast”, the fallacy of smaller government, and disastrous deregulation. At this point in time, to keep it afloat – EVERYBODY needs to be rowing, bailing, or patching the holes.

It isn’t just BP you need to “go off on” Mr President…

It’s those Republicans who keep trying to drill more holes.

Back after Katrina, Republicans argued it wasn’t the Federal Government’s job to help the states. This from Uncle Tommie Sowell after Katrina

“The Federal Government should not give bail out money. People should get private insurance. Because the government causes people to live in dangerous areas. If the market could decide without government intervention, people would be less likely to live in disaster prone areas.

He lives in an earthquake prone area and feels if his house is destroyed, that he does not have a right to have taxpayers in other parts of the country paying to rebuild his house.”

The states in the Gulf region have encouraged oil development with low (or no) taxes, favorable laws, and have turned a blind eye to the risks and environmental damage…

By Uncle Tommie’s logic – the taxpayers in other parts of the country aren’t responsible for the Gulf States foolishness…

That IS after all – what “small government” means.

CNN Reporters Move From Reporting to Rescuers

One of the rules of being a News Reporter is to stay clinically detached enough from the news to report it. This calls for walking by some really heartbreaking things.

CNN’s reporters, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, and Anderson Cooper haven’t been able to entirely do that during the scenes from hell due to the Haitian earthquake. Yesterday Anderson Cooper rescued a young Haitian boy, who was bleeding suffering from injuries in a food riot…

Dr. Gupta has performed surgery, held the fort at a field clinic after aall the other doctors left – and participated in treating Haitian patients.

Something you’ll never see someone from Faux News do.
