A woodworking project - A bench to watch the marsh

Me – 50(ish) Black Male, born and raised in Virginia.

One of the Neighbors - A Red Shouldered Hawk in the back yard.

Occupation(s) – Serial Entrepreneur.  When not doing that, I consult to (generally) small companies, the people who fund them – and look for new ideas. I also do a fair amount of work overseas.

Background – Hi-Tech, Engineering, Computers, and Telecom with a strong dose of Business Management and Marketing.

Hobbies – This could take a few pages.

• Photography – Worked professionally. Some of the pics here (such as the header) will be mine.
• The Beach and Fishing –  Saltwater, the header pic is titled “Out my front door”.
• Boats – It’s a really bad habit.
• Model Trains – “N” Gauge, the little tiny ones.
• Woodworking – I love to make Art Furniture and restore antiques.
• Continuing Education – I’m an amateur Historian and voracious reader.
• Cooking – Fusion, a combination of different dishes from different parts of the world. Mess with my All Clads and I make that Hell’s Kitchen dude look like a wimp.

Favorite Restaurants – Inn At Little Washington (Patrick O’Connell is simply one of the very best!), Peking Gourmet Inn (Favorite of George Bush Sr, and the best Peking Duck in the world. Tell George or Lilly I sent you!), The Battletown Inn (No it’s not a 5 star, but after a day on the Shenandoah Drive, it hits the spot), Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek (When in Dallas a 5 Star of incredible experience – bring an oil well), Joe T Garcia’s (Ft. Worth -Haven’t Been in a while, but this was serious good Tex-Mex food, fixed just like Momma Garcia used to make), Redfish Grill (New Orleans – Between the oyster bar, home brew, and Stuffed Redfish, some of the best eats in Naw’leans), Everest (Chicago – this will put your company expense account in receivership. Special occasions, indeed!) Charlie Trotters (Chicago – an institution), Steak? Mike Shannons in St. Louis.

Next place I want to try – Town House in Chillowie, Va.

Politics – To the right of Mao, and the left of Attila the Hun. I used to be what might be described as a moderate-progressive in this country, which nowadays seems to fall into the “socialistic pinko” category. I haven’t moved, but the notoriously nearsighted right has marched even further away from the Village Square, gleefully lopping the heads of their own newest heretics clinging to moderate rationality.

Did I say woodworking? Here are two of my more colorful, fun projects meant for seaside cottages. The Armoire, which wasn’t finished at the time of the picture (the bottom drawers) was a joint project with my little ones who selected the scene and helped stain the wood. The large bell to the left came out of a restoration project of an mid-19th Century black Church (they got a new bell).

This is a "modernized" Stickley Rocker, again for a Beach Cottage. I redid the wood in a (removable) Midnight Blue after totally disassembling it and returning it to it's original all peg (no nails, no screws) construction.
