And while I agree with Cynthia’s assessment of the economic issues in this country – I think it is rather myopic to lay the gutting of the middle class in America, which started under Raygun solely at President Obama’s feet. Quite frankly, when you as the electorate can be fooled into believing that spots on a little blue dress are more important than your missing paycheck…
You deserve to get effed.

Former U.S. congresswoman McKinney speaks on state TV in Libya
A former U.S. congresswoman slammed U.S. policy on Libyan state TV late Saturday and stressed the “last thing we need to do is spend money on death, destruction and war.”
The station is fiercely loyal to Moammar Gadhafi and her interview was spliced with what appeared to be rallies in support of the embattled Libyan leader.
“I think that it’s very important that people understand what is happening here. And it’s important that people all over the world see the truth. And that is why I am here … to understand the truth,” former Rep. Cynthia McKinney said during a live interview.
She said she was invited to Libya by the “nongovernmental organization for fact-finding,” adding that she intends to bring more people to the country soon so that “they too can understand.”
NATO warplanes have been pounding military targets since March after the U.N. Security Council approved a resolution to protect civilians by any means necessary, as Gadhafi’s forces try to quash a nearly three-month revolt against the leader’s roughly 42 years of rule.
Gadhafi’s government has repeatedly urged the international community to send fact-finding teams to Libya to report what’s happening on the ground.
At one point during the interview, state TV cut to what it said were live airstrikes, hitting Gadhafi’s compound.
“Is that a bomb?” McKinney asked.
“I want to say categorically and very clearly that these policies of war … are not what the people of the United States stand for, and it’s not what African-Americans stand for,” she told state TV.
The former Georgia representative also slammed the economic policies of U.S. President Barack Obama and said the government of the United States no longer represents the interests of the American people.
“Under the economic policies of the Obama administration, those who have the least are losing the most. And those who have the most are getting even more,” she said. “The situation in the United States is becoming more dire for average ordinary Americans, and the last thing we need to do is to spend money on death, destruction and war.”
Separately, McKinney appeared on state-run Press TV this week in Iran. She was reported to be in Tehran attending the International Conference on Global Alliance Against Terrorism for a Just Peace.

1) Why is it that you appear to accept the present economic condition among “The LEAST OF THESE”………..as long as it is qualified with an attachment to Ronald Reagan?
2) Are you sure that the decline in Detroit, Newark and Gary started with Reagan?
3) If we put the “damage” that Reagan did on one side of the balance scale and then make note of the pile of PROMISES put forth by Articulate Progressives in which the “Least Of These” were told of the glories that they would soon see IF they vested their “Equal Ballot” into the favorable box…….is there a point where you are forced to say that this DUD is a more POWERFUL force in explaining the current conditions than was the “cross burning” on your lawn that you feel that Ronald Reagan did to warn you against standing on your own two feet?

What makes Qaddafi a scumbag, the fact that his citizens get a free education in Libya or abroad, that they have free healthcare, subsidized housing, or the fact that they get a profit from the oil? Who wouldn’t want to live in a country with a leader like Qaddafi?
Maybe Qaddafi is a scumbag because that’s what the media and president Obama told you, and want you to believe- and because you are too IGNORANT to seek the TRUTH just as Sister McKinney has and is doing in Libya she’s “stupid” (as many of the responders believe) to you.
When did seeking the truth become a problem?

Makheru, this is going to veer of Cynthia McKinney, but for the entire history of this country, when there is an economic downturn, it affects the people with the fewest resources the most. The recession of 2007-09 (2006-present in San Bernardino County, CA) was/is no different. If a high percentage of black people were employed in industries, occupations public agencies and private companies that downsized, the black unemployment rate can expect to spike. If a high percentage of black people were sold into predatory mortgages, a high percentage will face foreclosures.
Are you suggesting that Obama’s presidency should have created a different outcome for black people, that he was supposed to somehow protect black workers from downsizing and black homeowners in over their heads from foreclosure? Just how was that supposed to be accomplished?
Poor people are suffering. The middle class is sinking. Many formerly wealthy people are trying to hunker down and regroup. In this economy, even lawyers have fallen into the ranks of unemployment.
It is fairly inevitable in a global society that economies will seek equilibrium, and those nations with a high standard of living will decline as those emerging nations rise. This rampantly consumeristic society was bound to implode, but the implosion didn’t just begin in January 2009, and no president was going to be able to stop it.
Many have criticized Obama for not doing more for black people. If that is your opinion, please spell out what you think he should be doing.

Perhaps you can, but I can’t. As Chalmers Johnson said, you can’t have an empire abroad and a democracy at home. The two systems are diametrically-opposed to one another. As the cost of the war in Libya approaches $800 million (with no end in sight), I’m compelled as Dr. King said during the Vietnam era, to see war as an enemy of the poor, and also the struggling working class and middle class. Consequently there is a direct relationship between these wars started by George W. Bush, and continued/expanded by Barack Obama and headlines like this.

Barack Obama is what I initially read him to be—the most brilliant stroke of disguised hypocrisy (change you can believe in) in American political history. Thus, unlike Cornel West I’m not at all disappointed. I saw Obama as a fraud from jumpstreet.

Afrikan Americans are Barack Obama’s most loyal constituents. They could ask, “do you understand the challenges we face. You’re increasing military financing for Israel to record levels. What about us?”
The bottom line however is that Obama has learned from his Democratic predecessors. The Afrikan American body politic is the Democratic Party’s bottom ho. No matter how bad you treat them, ignore them, or whatever, they keep supporting that pimp.
I point out these problems from the perspective of what we should be doing. Obama is doing what he was hired to do—maintain the American empire at all costs.
If we could ever break the monopoly that the two-party system has on our minds (so afraid of one party that we’ll accept bullshit from the other) and operate purely on the basis of our collective interest, what could we accomplish?

I certainly agree with breaking up the 2-party monopoly; I’ve never joined a party and doubt I ever will. Obama’s election actually represents the first time the person I voted for won the presidency, beginning in 1980.
It is fair to see Obama as just the latest American president who is th titular head of the country that is actually controlled by unseen hands, however it is an admission that he could not have ‘done more for black people’ that he has.
I am distressed that the wars continue seemingly without end, and I note the dubious anniversary we approach where the US will have been in Afghanistan longer that the former Soviet Union. It broke that country, and the US could suffer the same fate. At a time when the funds used to operate the war machine are desperately need to repair the cities, being a wartime president seems to be the easiest path to re-election.
