Police Officer Shootings Reach Epidemic Proportions

24 Jan

I think almost everyone recognizes that the job of the Police is dangerous. But in the last few days nearly a dozen officers have been shot, with several killed in the past 48 hours…

Two Cops Dead, One Wounded in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Lincoln City Police Officer Shot; Manhunt On
4 Detroit police officers shot, gunman dead in ‘horrifying’ attack
Indianapolis police officer shot in face, in critical condition
LA school officer shot near campus, saved by vest
2 officers, suspect killed during Miami shootout
2 dead, 2 deputies hurt in Port Orchard shootings

This is going beyond crazy.

What was it you said about the proliferation of guns? Oh, that was me…

Yeah – I don’t know if the gun thing is headed for some sanity or not. I just don’t see ANY Republican, or many Democrats for that matter with the cajones to stand up to the NRA.

That ticking you hear at a deafening level is the time bomb exploding; I think we’ve finally reached critical mass.

I hope so. The system has swung too far in the favor of the crazies.

Did you hear about the woman in Indiana who shot her three kids to death, shot the family dog, set her house on fire, then shot herself to death? To get even with her husband is what authorities suspect.

Gun control or no gun control isn’t going to stop someone like that woman. Remember the woman in Texas a few years ago who drowned her kids?

What it can stop (or at least slow down) the sort of street violence and mass killings we see nearly every day in America.

The problem isn’t guns – it’s that the gun crazies have control of the argument.

Two incidents of wilding in NYC, we asking for a clampdown, it bothers me to my bones. No one can tell me that F.F. alive today, would not ask for controlling these hand guns in our nation. Selling a f_kin 30 clip? Even us crazy Nam Vets, know a 22 rifle and a shotgun is not weapons that are easily concealed, and demands in reality group training and safety lessons.

SALT LAKE CITY – State lawmakers are debating whether to designate a semiautomatic pistol as the official gun of Utah, despite protests from people who believe it’s inappropriate because of recent mass shootings.

The bill to make the Browning M1911 the official gun breezed through a committee hearing this week and is scheduled to be debated by the full House as early as Wednesday.

Republican Rep. Carl Wimmer said the state should have the gun as one of its state symbols to honor John Browning, a Utah native who invented it in 1911.

That Browning sucks, complex barrel travel and other issues to boot. There are a number of compelling reasons the military replaced that POS with the Beretta…,

Actually I believe they replaced the Browning 1908 with the Colt 1911 (designed by browning) through WWII – and through the 1990’s. They tried 38’s in Vietnam, which were too light. The Beretta 92 is very nicely put together and the design of it’s slide makes it very smooth. It is also, unlike the 1911 easy to take apart and clean without winding up with that little cap thingie in your eye. However, in my experience it suffers from accuracy issues because of the “floating” barrel. Seems a number of folks in the Military are moving over to the Sig 228 (M11). The Sig 226, of which the 228 is a compact version is about the best off-the-shelf autoloader out there…

But if the objective is to reach out and touch…A full frame 1911 with a 11-13 twist barrel, and a few mods to smooth the “rough edges” will get you there – a lot further away than the 9’s….Very reliably.

And no…I don’t see the need for civilians running around with 30 round clips.

Yes compact makes more sense; I disliked the 45 and didn’t use it in the Nam. Blop guns (grenade shotgun) were the best for short range. Yet I find it makes sense from a state that was taken over by Mormons, it fits their history from persecuted to oppressor. They deny their role in genocide in the Utah. Necessity demands inventions. The meme among Euro-America is creepy

The 45’s used in Nam were the smooth bores. Couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn door with them. Guy by the name of Randall began making knock offs in stainless with rifled barrels in the early 70’s. That put the reasonable accuracy out to about 75 yards – about 40 yards further than I’ve ever seen a 9mm shoot. That caught on big time, and pretty soon there were a lot of companies making them. They still kick like a mule, though.

Have met a few black gun smiths in my time. One built me a custom sporterized 300 off of a .365 1918 Argentine Mauser Frame, complete with hand carved, scrolled and inlaid stock, and some beautiful inlay work on the receiver. It’s a showpiece, too pretty to scratch up by use in the field. I have fired it a couple of times – and it worked just fine out to 500+ yards. That guy was a specialist in Weatherbys which are pretty serious high end rifles.

I used to enjoy hunting, and still occasionally enjoy shooting at little paper targets. I just don’t agree with the guys who think guns designed around urban warfare and not sport uses, and these “junk guns” serve any purpose except carnage. I think the gun lobby is totally off the rails.

    Mr BT –

Is this “ANALYSIS” of the situation to your satisfaction?

Why is it that when Black People were murdered by the “Red Coats” in the Reconstruction South no one called for GUN CONTROL? (except against Black people to deny our ability to defend ourselves)?

On Democracy Now I heard leftist radical Angela Davis tell of BLACK MALES IN BIRMINGHAM doing neighborhood patrols just after the Birmingham Church Bombings. They DREW THEIR GUNS to defend their communities from any further molestation from outsiders.

UNFORTUNATELY today – because of the consciousness that has been festered by the BENIGN NEGLECT of having our people focused on POLITICS – our young people are DEFENDING THEMSELVES…….against a person who looks like them. Some use their weapons offensively.

        It’s “Himself” but I understand.

Why is it that those who pegged their “social justice” upon the wanton killing of Black people back in the day – seem to avoid this subject TODAY when the killer is not of an exploitable quantity?

By the way – the other day you said that the “Abortionist in Philly” was treating mostly OUT OF TOWN , “Non-Black” patients. This is not true – according to the (Black) District Attorney of Philadelphia who noted how “Poor Women Of Color” from the area were his “victims”.

Porch – “wanton killing” is bad whoever does it, and whoever is the victim…

When you understand that – you might even evolve from Simian to something with opposable thumbs that walks upright.

The Grand Jury report is online relative to the Philly Murderer. Suggest you read it and free yourself of your delusions.
