Santa… That List!

24 Dec

Last but not least, a salute to American consumerism –

To those of you who celebrate such, a Merry Christmas. To those of other persuasions, may your Holidays be Joyous, and may the road after the New Year lead you to good things.

We’ll resume posting after visits with friends and family.

Afraid my holiday spirit just got shot to hell, Taf. Just got a call that one, and probably two friends were killed in a boating accident. The body of one just washed up on the beach this morning, and the Coast Guard has not been able to find the boat – so it is presumed sunk. They left Monday in their aged 42′ Chris to try and cross the Chesapeake Bay on what normally would be an 8-10 hour run in that class of boat at cruising speed. Why this time of year I don’t know – especially having to cross one of the two most treacherous stretches of water on the east coast around Point Lookout which has killed nearly as many boats as the Bermuda Triangle, including big ships. Fortunately (hopefully) they filed a Float Plan, so if the boat is still afloat, there is a chance my other friend survives – but they haven’t found the boat yet. Which is bad news. But the Coast Guard has the Helicopters and planes out looking – so there is still hope.

Had one of those weird dreams last night, about the time I got bushwhacked by a Hurricaine off Point Lookout which was supposed to go east over the ocean but turned inland. 12′ Waves sweeping over the bow, and helm… Making the decision to run through a narrow channel where the waves were coming over the Jettys even after seeing a much bigger and heavier 65′ steel hull fishing boat swept onto the rocks, instead of turning North into the teeth of it to make the 20 mile run across to a harbor protected by high bluff – which I did in real life. I woke up just before trying to shoot the narrow channel between the stone jettys, which surely would have been a disaster.

Guess it (the dream) was telling me something.

Gee whiz…that’s awfully sad news. That really does drive home the importance of our loved ones and friends during this season. I hope that you’re somehow able to connect with all those still here as you mourn such a tragic loss. I’ll pray also.
