The Terrorist Attack Against ACORN

Defund the…

Rachael makes an important point here –

Why were Democrats in such a hurry to help Republicans with their votes to pass a bill to defund ACORN?

Surely one of the 300 or so Lawyers on the Hill knew the Bill was unconstitutional?

This smells of an End Run.

BTx3 Reunion

Between 200 and 250 BTx3′s gathered at a resort this weekend for a long delayed family get together, a great turnout considering the time of year and distance some of the attendees would need to travel.  All told, the family consists of something between 500 and 800 members (that we know about), covering 6 generations from the point we marked as “our origins”.

Family Reunion Print by Laverne Ross (

To quote Edgar Guest – “That’s a heap of livin’”.

Got several hundred requests to publish another book about the family as a companion to the one we did at the 25th Family Reunion, which was a 300 page leather bound volume of pictures, charts, stories, documents, and letters – as well as a historical account…

I started assimilating this information several times, with the help of some of the family historians. The last book took over a year of effort to assemble, edit, and produce – which was a serious commitment. Of course, we didn’t have the advantage of computerized and online publication tools that we do today (like Adobe Publisher) – nor did we have extensive access to the Internet.

I have done a brief survey of Genealogy software, and so far have found products which are infested with a serious level of “bloatware” making the products fatally cumbersome, or with serious limitations in the ability to convert the files into a printable or publishable format. I haven’t taken a look at the online “Family” sites yet to figure out if there is anything useful…

Anyone else out there have ideas or experience in this?

Marching in a Straight Line

Maher gets it right sometimes, and in this one he’s dead on -

Maher is beginning to tap into the rising tide of frustration with the inability of Congress and President Obama to get things done. Eight months into this Presidency, a lot of time, good will, and effort has been squandered.

If the Democrat Party were operated like a well run corporation, right about now, the entire contingent of elected Democrat officials in the House and Senate would be locked into one of those large conference rooms at the Hermitage for a “Come to Jesus” meeting…

And wouldn’t be let out until there was complete agreement on accomplishing a list of 5 objectives in the following 7 days.

And no – you don’t serve coffee, tea, or those cute little canapes until it’s done.

BTx3 Family Reunion

BTx3 will be gone for the weekend, to the BTx3 Family Reunion. At last count, 250+ BTx3′s are set to show up!

And NO, if I hear that O’Jays song again…

I’ll explode!

Back to posting, Monday!

Ben Jealous: Personal Responsibility Alone Won’t Fix Structural Inequalities

ColorLines is a national news magazine on race an politics, which is published bi-monthly. An Internet version is available here with some of the content, and there also is a blog, Racewire.

This opinion piece originally published in the Grio (link below) looks at the issue of social uplift, frequently defined by black conservatives as “black folks doing bad”. Bill Cosby of course, has been frequently cited by conservatives for his statement regarding that segment of the black population which doesn’t seem to be able to get traction to move into the middle class. Justifiably, Cosby defines some of those reasons as attitudes, and a twisted cultural norm which devalues success outside of a very limited scope of questionable activities.

Jealous isn’t saying that isn’t true – but he is making a clear point that a number of other things are true as well.

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to share the stage with America’s legendary television dad, Bill Cosby. In a town hall forum titled “About Our Children,” Cosby and I, along with comedian Paul Rodriguez and University of Wisconsin Professor Maria Cancian, discussed poverty, parenting and the American dream in front of a national audience, broadcast live on MSNBC. 50,000 Muslims to Pray on Capitol Hill Today

A group called Islam on Capitol Hill has organized a pray-in for the West Front of the Capitol grounds today between 1 and 2 PM. Organizers expect a turnout of 50,000 Muslims to turn out for a prayer for the soul of America.

After the Value Voters summit last week, this should be an improvement.

The event really hasn’t drawn a big reaction from the conservative blogsphere yet, but it probably will draw lots as it is reported, and if the planned numbers turn out.

50,000 Muslims to Pray on Capitol Hill: Guess Who’s Not Happy?

“There is no turning back,” Hassen Abdellah, president of the Dar-ul-Islam mosque in New Jersey and a main organizer of the event, told me on Wednesday.

Abdellah had just met with Capitol Hill police regarding security procedures and with sound technicians who will help broadcast the prayers. The organizers have a permit to gather at the West Front of the Capitol from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. but the main event will run from 1-2 p.m., the time of the principle Friday prayer service for Muslims.

“When Barack Obama ran for president everyone said that it wasn’t a good time. So what’s the difference?” Abdellah said. (“And no, President Obama is not coming,” he added pointedly. “And he is not a Muslim.”)

Abdellah argued that Muslims would be gathering to pray, not to protest — and that the audience is also beyond the U.S. borders. “We will be there to promote America to the world, to show the world that we (American Muslims) are not oppressed…We think this is a free country and we want to show that.”

Ibrahim Hooper, chief spokesman for the Council on Islamic-American Relations, or CAIR, a leading Muslim advocacy group, said he sees the Friday event as an extension of other Islamic celebrations that have been going on in Washington and elsewhere for years.

“What is significant about this event is that it is being seized upon by a cottage industry of Internet hatemongers who want to disenfranchise the American Muslim community,” said Hooper, who cannot attend the event because he will be traveling. “People shouldn’t stop doing things based on the hatred and bigotry of others. The civil rights movement did not stop moving forward just because racists didn’t like it.”

Faux News Anti Goverment Rhetoric Bears Fruit? A Lynching in Kentucky

This breaking story about a Census worker found hanged with the word FED on his chest -

Looks like all that ranting and raving by certain media talking heads may be having some consequences.

The Flooding In Atlanta – 6 Flags Underwater

Flooding the Georgia has reached serious proportions with the State being declared a Disaster Area with 7 dead due to the lingering storm. The Chattahoochee River in northeast Atlanta rose to a height not seen since 1919 -

ACORN Collateral Damage

The collateral damage from the Faux News Network attempted assassination of ACORN continues with multiple emerging news stories…

Faux played the video of the prep school pimp hundreds of times as they apparently had ACORN personnel assisting them in child prostitution and evading taxes.

Just Trying to Get a Nut

Just Trying to Get a Nut

Apparently the ACORN employee providing the helpful information reported the pimp and his supposed prostitute to the police (Hat Tip Political Carnival) -

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — Police say a worker with the activist group ACORN who was caught on video giving advice about human smuggling to a couple posing as a pimp and a prostitute had reported the incident to authorities. National City police said Monday that Juan Carlos Vera contacted his cousin, a police detective, to get advice on what to with information on possible human smuggling. Vera was secretly filmed on Aug. 18 as part of a young couple’s high-profile expose. Police say he contacted law enforcement two days later. The detective consulted another police official who served on a federal human smuggling task force, who said he needed more details. The ACORN employee responded several days later and explained that the information he received was not true and he had been duped. Vera was fired on Thursday. Continue reading

Libyan President Gahdafi Praises Obama

Fox News telecast the President of Libya, Gahdafi’s entire 96 minute speech to the UN today…

Which is one more speech than they have broadcast recently made by President Obama.

Obviously, Faux News feels whatever President Gahdafi had to say to the UN is far more important to Americans…

Than what our own President has to say.

This bit from Faux, where the reporter repeats himself 5 times in 2 minutes over Gahdafi’s reference to Obama as Africa’s Native Son (Our Son) due to his Kenyan father-

File this one under – Racism, will indeed make you stupid.

Second, don’t let conservative racism fool you into believing Gahdafi is a raving lunatic, or stupid. He has become a force to be reckoned with through investing his country’s oil money in Sub Saharan Africa,  and (belatedly) is in the process of a massive infrastructure upgrade in his country, principally being funded on Libya’s own nickel instead of begging for money like many other countries. Since deciding to re-engage with the rest of the world 5 years ago, clearing up the last of the Raygun era Islamic radicalism, the country has been making moves to try and become an economic power.

Philly Swim Club Penalized

This summer’s simmering controversy was over the action of a Private Swim Club in the Philidelphia area which contracted with a youth group for swim activities, only to withdraw them when the group arrived – because the group was majority black.

Commission penalizes swim club in Pennsylvania racism complaint

(CNN) — The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission issued a finding of probable cause Tuesday that racism was involved in the decision last June by a suburban Philadelphia swim club to revoke privileges of a largely minority day care center.
Some kids from the Creative Steps Day Care center say club members made racist remarks.

The commission ordered monetary damages for humiliation and embarrassment and a civil penalty of not more than $50,000.

The decision noted that none of the club’s 155 paid members this year was African-American.

Last year, according to the decision, there were “179 paid memberships, none of whom were African American.”

In addition, the decision noted that in 2009, the Valley Club “made a concerted effort to expand the geographic range of its membership by engaging in a marketing campaign…. The Respondent efforts were mainly directed at areas with overwhelmingly Caucasian populations…. The Respondent made no effort to direct such marketing efforts at areas with significant African American populations….”

“It’s an invitation to sit down with our staff and have the parties settle their differences,” said Stephen Glassman, chairman of the commission, of the 33-page decision. “If they don’t, it will go on to a public hearing, a trial.”

He said the Valley Swim Club has 30 days to appeal.

Uncle Mikkie the HNIC and MLK

“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane of all.”

Martin Luther King, Jr., National Convention of the Medical Committee for Human Rights, Chicago, March 25, 1966.

Watch the goon escort the young questioner out.

Now the HNIC is trying to wrap this conservative shit in the mantle of Martin Luther King…

He is a disgrace.

The Cos Weighs In

Bill Cosby, the darling of conservatives when he gives that tough-love to the segment of the black community that is falling down – is likely to draw conservative ire with his post on his Facebook -

I agree with President Carter that racism is playing a role in recent outbursts against President Obama. During President Obama’s speech on the status of health care reform, some members of congress engaged in a public display of disrespect. While one Representative hurled the now infamous “you lie” insult at the President, others made their lack of interest known by exhibiting rude behavior such as deliberately yawning and sending text messages.

Health care reform is the most important domestic issue facing America today. Disease does not discriminate. African American, White, Asian, Latino, Republican, Democrat, no one in America is immune. So it seems obvious that a debate on health care reform should not include views born solely of partisanship or bigotry.

Various polls prior to the election indicated that between five and ten percent of Americans would never vote for an African American president. That number, of course, only includes those who actually admitted to their prejudice. How many others harbored such feelings but did not respond honestly when asked the question? And how many people oppose Obama’s plan because the President is African American?

In “Birth of a Nation,” D.W. Griffith used white actors in black face to portray black legislators as having low intelligence and acting like fools. Today, we have a band of real life congressional fools seemingly bent on blocking any meaningful reform of the health care system. But if we allow even one American to die simply because he or she cannot afford treatment, we are creating a shameful scenario that could aptly be called “Death of a Nation.”

NY Governor David Paterson Wins a Big One

Been a tough week for NY Governor Paterson. Both the Obama Administration and the DNC are encouraging him not to run for Governor in 2010 based on his low poll numbers.

New York Governor David Paterson

New York Governor David Paterson

Adding to his woes has been the circus in the New York Senate, now deadlocked 31-31 votes Democrat/Republican. To break this deadlock, Governor Paterson appointed a new LT Governor to replace the seat he vacated when he moved to Governor after Elliot Spitzer’s resignation.

Republicans howled, and sued to block the appointment, which would provide a tie braking vote and make the Senate functional again.

New York court upholds governor’s appointment of lieutenant

New York State’s highest court on Tuesday ruled that Governor David Paterson has the authority to appoint a lieutenant governor, granting the embattled governor a surprise victory in a case brought by Senate Republicans.

The New York Court of Appeals voted 4 to 3 that the governor “has the authority to fill a vacancy in the office of lieutenant-governor by appointment,” the ruling said.

Paterson, who himself became governor from his position as lieutenant governor under Eliot Spitzer, has said he is running for office, despite the reports that the Obama administration is concerned he could drag down New York’s Democratic members of Congress and the Democratic-controlled state legislature.

The ruling is from the New York Court of Appeals in Dean G. Skelos et al, vs. David Paterson et al, No. 183.

Paterson is running – and he just might surprise some folks.

The Scene In DC

The Washington Post has been doing a series called “Style in DC”. While DC isn’t a big city, and doesn’t have the ethnic neighborhoods of the industrial cities to the North – each of the neighborhoods and areas discussed has a unique flavor. This first video is about “U” Street, an area which before desegregation was where the shops, theaters, and clubs were. Today, it’s still jumping -

This next one is on the Duke Ellington School of the Arts -

The Style on Capitol Hill. Lot of blue and gray suits, and a tie regimen at the Democrat and Republican Clubs, but the Hill still rocks in it’s own unique way -
