Republican Governor Candidate McDowell – working women were “detrimental” to the family

01 Sep

Hmmmmm… Just when it looked like the Democrat candidate for Virginia Governor, Creigh Deeds was down for the count, due to an inability to get traction and name recognition…

Bob McDonnell

Republican Candidate for VIrginia Governor, Robert McDonnell (left)

His Republican opponent Bob McDonnell has a bit of his past floating up, which may well put him in the proverbial “crapper”.

According to Slate

Bob McDonnell was 34 years old when, in 1989, he wrote his master’s thesis at the evangelical Regent University. The 93-page paper, first reported by the Washington Post over the weekend, was an action plan for the religious right. Among the opinions expressed: working women were “detrimental” to the family, the government should penalize unmarried “cohabitators, homosexuals or fornicators,” that divorce should be further restricted, and that family is “God-ordained government” untouchable by civil law. Twenty years later, McDonnell—now the Republican candidate for governor of Virginia after having served as the state’s attorney general—says his opinions have changed. Seeking to minimize political damage from the Post‘s discovery, McDonnell told reporters the idea “that a 20-year-old academic exercise somehow represents my 18-year career in public service is just a flat misrepresentation,” adding that he had encouraged his daughters to pursue advanced academic degrees and noting that one daughter had served in the military in Iraq.

Regent University? Regent University is televangelist Pat Robertson’s school… Most recently made infamous by the destruction wrought by it’s graduates at the Department of Justice

(Monica) Goodling is one of 150 graduates of Regent University who have served in this (the Bushit) administration, as Regent’s Web site proudly proclaims. Pretty impressive for a 29-year-old school. The university says that “approximately one out of every six Regent alumni is employed in some form of government work.” And that’s precisely what its founder desired. The school’s motto is “Christian Leadership to Change the World.” Former attorney general John Ashcroft teaches at Regent, and graduates have obtained senior positions in the Bush administration. The express goal is not only to tear down the wall between church and state in America but also to enmesh the two.

Now, I’ve never met Mr. McDonnell, and can’t honestly say he’s a racist, bigoted ass like the previous Republican who held the Governor’s office. However, it’s pretty clear that Robertson’s school is a training ground for bigots and racists wrapped in the American flag and cloaked under the increasingly dubious heading of “christian”. It’s also pretty clear that a substantial portion of Mr. McDonnell’s support comes from that fanatic right wing “evangelical” fringe of Virginia’s electorate…

In which “moderating” his views is akin to Hitler installing gas chambers on humanitarian grounds because they are more merciful…

Than beating people to death.

Looking for that “Macaca” again to cover for your political deficiencies – aren’t you?

Why does there have to Maccaca, when what was said is fodder.

Why does there have to BE maccaca when his other words are damning enough? Did you want him to implode, completely?
