An update to this post is available under Burkini Wars

Apparently the latest salvo in the culture war in France is Moslem women wearing “Burkinis” ….

Now – it’s common in France for women to go topless at the beaches – so apparently the complaint, is Moslem women are…

Wearing too much!

A Burkini

A Burkini

Now, BTx3 enjoys the sight of a finely shaped woman in a swimsuit as well as the next guy – and admittedly the Burkini leaves a lot to the imagination…

But, at the same time you have to respect someone else’s beliefs.

Apparently in France, with the first salvo being an order to ban head scarves in 2004s – a woman with clothes on…

Just isn’t French!

French Muslim woman wearing ‘burkini’ banned from Paris swimming pool

France’s struggle with Islamic dress has moved into the swimming pool after a 35-year-old woman was banned from bathing in her “burkini”, a head-to-toe swimsuit.

The woman, identified only as Carole, was making her third outing in a burkini to the town pool at Emerainville, on the eastern outskirts of Paris, when the chief lifeguard ordered her to leave.

She was said to be breaking hygiene rules, but her ejection has become the latest episode in a battle between fundamentalist Muslims and a state that has banned head-cover from schools and may curb face-covering in public.

Carole accused the pool officials of illegal discrimination and went straight to the police and the media. “Quite simply, this is segregation,” she said. “I will fight to try to change things. And if I see that the battle is lost, I cannot rule out leaving France.”

The police refused to accept the complaint on the grounds that the lifeguard was just enforcing a rule that applies at all French public pools. Women must wear swimsuits and men must wear brief trunks rather than shorts, which are said to be more likely to harbour bacteria.

Carole, who was born in a traditional French family and converted to Islam at the age of 17, said she bought her attire on holiday in Dubai. The burkini, designed by Aheda Zanetti, a Lebanese-Australian, has become a hit in the Gulf and caused trouble in public pools in Europe and North America.

Despite the allusion to the Afghan burka, the swimsuit leaves the face uncovered. The body is clad in a track-suit-like tunic and coat and the head and neck are covered with a cross between a hijab and a diver’s balaclava helmet.

“I thought that it could enable me to enjoy the pleasure of bathing without uncovering myself, as Islam recommends,” she told Le Parisien newspaper. “I understand that it might shock people, but I am annoyed because I have been told that it is a political matter. I didn’t set out to cause a stir. My only aim was to be able to go swimming with my children.”

First off – Kudos to Aheda Zanetti for a brilliant design idea.

Second… You mean French men wear those itty-bitty band aid suits for “hygine”? You gotta fold your Johnson 4 times to fit in that…

Anyway, I see the Burkini as fair revenge for the French afflicting the rest of the world with their spring and fall “fashion shows” with clothing so ridiculous they are now having to hire ugly women to model it…

Dang! I really must have kicked off something here with this post. The number of hits keeps climbing exponentially – although there haven’t been any comments.

I gotta figure my next bottle of Chateau Margeaux is going to be vinegar – and I’d better head for the hills if I see a group of tall skinny white women approaching…

Just what I need, a Fatwa from the fashionistas.

Comments are welcome. This blog after all is located in America, hosted by an American…

In that Great American Tradition – the last guy I shot, probably deserved it. 🙂

I don’t understand the objection to this ‘burkini”. The woman’s face is exposed, so their identity isn’t hidden. The material looks like it’s the stuff used to make most traditional swim suits. (And what’s all this “in the name of hygiene” crap?)

They don’t look all that different than the long line suits worn by the Olympic swimmers either. The top is a “swim dress” with sleeves. The bottoms are like the long swim suits worn by the likes of Michael Phelps. The top looks like a wetsuit hood.

Sounds like the French need to look into updating their rules. You know someone will do some scientific research and prove the whole “hygiene” thing ridiculous.

      No – they won’t do the research…

And if they do it won’t disprove anything.

This is a culture war – and it’s got nothing to do with reality. And believe me, I understand both sides of it, including the Euro side of it to assimilate…

      Or leave.

They killed Jews for a lot less in Europe in centuries past – no different form anywhere else in the world where cultures clash.
