Color of Change, Jack and Jill Turn Up the Heat On Racist Commentator

07 Aug

This from Jack and Jill, which is cross posted at Firedoglake, Huffington Post, and DailyKos. This was authored by James Rucker

(Just in case you forgot)

Last week, after Glenn Beck called President Obama a “racist” who has a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” we asked ColorOfChange members to call on Beck’s advertisers to pull their funding from his show. More than 50,000 people have already joined the call, and today we have great news to report — advertisers are starting to listen:

Three companies who run ads during Glenn Beck — NexisLexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance — today distanced themselves from Beck. LexisNexis has pulled its advertising from Beck and says it has no plans to advertise on the program in the future. Both Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance called the Beck advertising placements an error that they would correct.

Since we released our statement announcing the news this morning, another company, S.C. Johnson (Pledge, Ziplock, Off!) told us that it was a mistake for their ads to be running on Beck’s show, and that they’d make sure it wouldn’t happen again in the future. (UPDATE: Our contact at S.C. Johnson wanted us to clarify that they have had no knowledge of their ad running on the Glenn Beck show (they wanted to verify this for themselves), and if it did happen, it was not something they requested.)

This is great progress, and it shows how effective it can be when thousands of people tell advertisers not to support this kind of hateful rhetoric. Now we need to step up the pressure on Beck’s other advertisers. While Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance were quick to respond, many others have avoided answering us, or refused to budge. We’re currently in conversations with advertisers, and the more people they see joining this campaign, the more reason they’ll have to listen.

If you haven’t done so already, please sign our petition to Beck’s advertisers, and ask your friends and family to do the same. Moving forward, we’ll keep you informed about effective ways you can pressure the advertisers to withdraw their support from Beck’s show.

If you can stomach it, here’s a half hour video of sickening race-baiting from Glenn Beck, put together by Media Matters…

For the rest of this article, please check out Jack and Jill. Also, if you, like I – are sick and tired of the racist conservative cretins spewing hate all over our airwaves…

Sign the petition – and help make a change.

Bt, I’m not getting the connection between James Rucker and Jack and Jill? Is James Rucker a diarist or contributor there? I, members of my family, and friends signed the petition via our email accounts.

James Rucker is one of the co-founders of Color of Change, who just happened to write this piece. Jack and Jill have been publicizing this among their reader base, as well as working with several other progressive sites – including Color of Change.

I think the effort is aimed at Beck’s advertisers. 4, so far have dropped the use of their ads on Beck’s show.

I think 2009 will go down as the year of the white riots. Whites in large number seem to feel the need to fight the power. Even 70 year old men in the Senate.

It is a natural progression from the Civil Rights struggle days. Most white folks haven’t really bellied up to the bar that black folks are more like them than not. It’s a function of our defacto segregated society, rather than any “racism” per se from our American brothers who are melanin deprived. I think a lot of it is driven by nothing more than fear – which the taking heads and right wingies are exploiting to the max.

Actually no, Beck does not have Freedom of Speech when using the public airwaves, and/or a government guaranteed monopoly cable system to broadcast his hateration. That probably sailed right over your head, just as the location of the Caps Lock Key would seem to be an eternal mystery to you.

He wants to go, stand on the corner on a soap box, or join one of the Town Hall Protests as a citizen – then he is absolutely guaranteed that right.

Yeah – It looks like Beck is taking a little “vacation” – perhaps with the guys in white suits in a padded room, with lots and lots of “couch time”. Now

I think I told you I had moved. To sell the old house, I pulled all the valuable stuff out and put it in those POD things to go in climate control secure storage. I also used on POD for tools (the big saws and woodworking things), and another for spare furniture, and my Stereo System. It’s (the PODs) a great system, in that they deliver the PODS right to your door, and set them up any way that is convenient for loading…

Of course I get my PODs delivered this morning – all nicely position to be a 10′ run into my new garage workspace, with the others positioned by the rec room doors – get the tool POD 1/2 unloaded…

      And it starts to thunderstorm!

So it will be a few days before I get to crank up Alicia!

I DID check the PODs contents – and the Vinyl collection made it through OK.

I love those PODs, I’ve seen them, from the outside up close. While I have no use for any of them, I think how useful they would be in under-developed Countries, considering how some of those people are living, PODs would be a solid structural improvement. It’s sounds sad, but it seems it may be true.

Bt’s you need to drive by the seven eleven and pick up some extra hands. Go early!:-)

My cat is extremely unhappy about the PODS! He takes one look out the door at those things and heads back in, pronto!

Hey – despite the iffy weather I got the worst (heaviest) one unloaded today, and started on the second. Unfortunately…

I’m averaging 1 POD per thunderstorm, and had to quit again. And I had my taste buds set on my stash of 25+ Year Single Malt I had stashed in the second POD. I loaded these suckers all by myself, complete with 3 couches in the third container. Just have to settle on a cold beer…

One of the things that is starting to be done in some countries is indeed to convert shipping containers into homes.
