President Obama Birth Certificate

President Obama Birth Certificate

While rich fodder for the wing-dizzies – has been bad news for his ratings.

According to The Observer‘s analysis of Nielsen data, in recent weeks, as criticism of Mr. Dobbs has continued to go up, his ratings at CNN have continued to go down.

Mr. Dobbs’ first began reporting on Obama birth certificate conspiracy theories on the night of Wednesday, July 15. In the roughly two weeks since then, from July 15 through July 28, Mr. Dobbs’ 7 p.m. show on CNN has averaged 653,000 total viewers and 157,000 in the 25-54 demo.

By contrast, during the first two weeks of the month (July 1 to July 14) Mr. Dobbs averaged 771,000 total viewers and 218,000 in the 25-54 demo. In other words, Mr. Dobbs’ audience has decreased 15 percent in total viewers and 27 percent in the demo since the start of the controversy.

Now, since the Loon and racist faction isn’t about to desert Faux News…

Lou Dobbs will soon have what I call his Tom Willis moment – there was an episode of the Jeffersons where the sick-of-petty-crime-in-the-neighborhood Tom was invited to a meeting that turned out to be a KKK meeting….Tom actually brought George Jefferson and Mr. Bentley (in those days, foreign-born whites were taboo to such orgs) to that meeting but was roundly condemned, especially when George let slip about Helen. Lou Dobbs has a seniorita and some brownish LITTLE kids at home (Game!!!, or Viagara???). Thats why I dont trip over Michael Savage, either – half of the right wing nuttery out there believes he’s a Zionist plant. Glenn Beck is more dangerous because he is lilly-white and has a lot of years ahead of him.

I don’t think Dobbs believes 3/4’s of the stuff he posits on his show. The guy is making one hell of a comfortable living by pandering to an issue which was a political hot-button – illegal immigration.

That is a lot easier sell, especially when there are high jobless rates – than the idea that the President isn’t the President.

Dobb’s audience is the white “everyman” who doesn’t see himself as racist, and probably has little to no contact with either black folks or Hispanics in their daily lives. There is more uncertainty there than anything.

Birthers, however – cross the line of what that audience considers racist.

Also, Lou Dobbs had a lot of old and middle-age black people cred (tight with Carolyn Swain and other black immigration restrictionists) and he probably pissed it away with the birther crap. Thats your drop in viewers right there.
