Sarah Palin’s announcement of her resignation as Governor. This is strange political theater, as Palin is gasping out her resignation. The nature of the speech, her uncharacteristic nervousness, her allusion to “politics of destruction”, and demeanor all scream that there is another pretty major shoe to drop here.

Rumors have been circulating in Alaska the past 2 months that there is a major criminal indictment pending. According to several sources, including Brad Blog, MSNBC, and the Post Chronicle Federal Investigators may be looking at a Ted Stevens like scandal involving embezzling funds meant for the Wasillla Sports Complex to build Palin’s house. Since there has been no formal announcement by the Feds – this still is in the area of conjecture.
The embezzlement scandal revolves around the large, $12.5 million sports complex that Sarah Palin pushed through during her last term as Mayor in Wasilla.
Federal investigators believe the cost of the sports complex was inflated to provide free building materials and labor for the Palin home being constructed close by. Both structures, it is said, feature the “same windows, same wood, same products.”
The sports complex’s architect and contractors reportedly have strong links and ties to Palin.
Spenard Building Supplies is the largest building supply company in Alaska – and they were also the supplier and contractor for ex-Senator Ted Stevens cabin.
Federal investigators have been looking into this since last October and now indictments on charges of public corruption and embezzlement appear to be imminent.
Several things are apparent. First, the decision to resign happened in the 36 hours preceding the resignation. According to several News outlets, the Palin children were not aware of her intention to resign until the moment she announced it during the speech – which seemingly contradicts her claim of a “family vote”.
To be fair, there may indeed be another, more personal reason for the resignation, with the possibilities running the gamut from an illness in the family to some other, as of yet not publically known personal crisis.
The Sno’ Ho’ may also have chosen to put the Public Speaking “feed bag” on, recognizing that she could make millions speaking to the right wing faithful – who have never been too picky about critical thinking skills amongst their heroines and heroes.
Then again, she may just have been jealous that SC Governor Mark Sanford was getting all the press and wooing away the base with his serial confessions and biblical justifications.
Did Sanford make any trips to Alaska?
