SC Governor Mark Sanford… And Naked Hiking Day

23 Jun

SC Governor Mark Stanford, fresh from his “principled” stand to refuse Federal money to fix majority black schools which were literally falling down around the heads of school children…

Decided to ditch the family, and his security patrol and take a hike.

Naked Hiker. NOT Governor Sanford... as far as we know.

Nekked Hiker. NOT Governor Sanford... as far as we know.

Sanford disappears to hike Appalachian Trail on Naked Hiking Day

South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford (not pictured) seemed to have disappeared over the last few days. After causing an uproar, his spokesman finally divulged that Sanford has been hiking the Appalachian Trail. Coincidentally, one of the days he was hiking was also Naked Hiking Day. The annual event is celebrated on the first day of summer.

And –

The Mark Sanford story just gets stranger. Late last night, Sanford’s staff came clean about the South Carolina governor’s previously undisclosed location: They say he’s hiking the Appalachian Trail this week—although they won’t say exactly where. But this has done little to appease his critics who say Sanford should have let people know where he was going in case of a state emergency of some kind. Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer tells Politico that he believes his office was misled by Sanford’s staff, who he says didn’t actually know where the governor was despite their claims. According to Politico, Bauer called Sanford’s office Monday and requested an “immediate phone conversation with the governor.” “That request was denied because the governor’s chief of staff does not know where the governor is and has not communicated with the governor since he left South Carolina last Thursday,” Bauer told Politico. “I cannot take lightly that his staff has not had communication with him for more than four days and that no one, including his own family, knows his whereabouts.”

Let’s see… Conservative religious Republican… Naked Hiking Day…

Coincidences that make you go “Hmmmmmmmmmmm”.

Not sayin’ that the Guv was involved… But what is it with white folks running around nekked in the woods?

I mean, I know those hills of the Appalachians and Shenandoah pretty well from tramping through in my youth, as well as having relatives who live there. This time of year with the amount of rain we’ve had, the mosquitoes are of a size and quantity to take on a Mexican Drug Cartel and all their guns…

Bug Bites on the arms or legs are one thing – but what makes a man want to hang his “Johnson” out there like a juicy hot-off-the-grill bacon double cheeseburger?

Not to mention the impact of strong sunlight on the melanin deprived…

Saw this first hand some years ago while in a training school. We were billeted in 3 BR apartments, 3 to an apartment for the duration of the school. One of my roommates, a melanin deprived guy from back east decided to join a group of other like skinned folk for a day of beer at a Nude Beach (You KNOW why, so don’t ask) – where the effects of a bit too much beer and the warm sun resulted in them falling asleep…

The two of us roommates who didn’t go were making runs to the local convenience store for 20 lb bags of ice for 3 days – because our errant, now lobster red, room mate couldn’t only not get his pants or underwear on to go to class…

But couldn’t leave the bath tub filled with ice water!

The plot thickens, as apparently Gov Sanford has contacted his staff…

But not his family!

I wonder was he writing up papers to success from the union? I don’t know how Artur Davis is going to fit into the brotherhood of southern governors.

Hey, this is off the subject of this story. but, just read it.

Yeah, I know about Jefferson County. They would have been better taking the money and buying 500 Church’s Fired Chicken and Bojangles Franchises in Wyoming.

How big of a history buff are you? I have a uncle that went to St. Paul College in Virginia. He is a bigger history buff than me.

BTW.. When you go on Conservative Black Woman blog; ask her: Why did African American leave the Republican Party? Most people thought the reason was the new deal and FDR. Wrong!

That’s funny! My mother graduated from St Paul, prior to getting her Masters at Virginia State, Yes. . I believe her graduating class was only 8 or 9. I have a picture album of her college years there.

She taught at several schools during segregation in different parts of the state. You will find on this site a piece on Jenny Dean and the Manassas Industrial School for Colored. As I recall I wrote a piece on Louise Archer back in the early days of my blogging, discussing black community schools opened up by black families – some before the Civil War.

Been thinking about an article on Maggie Walker, but haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Insofar as CBW – I don’t waste my time.

This is a new one on the WWW – might be fun:

My Uncle graduated in the late-1960’s and crossed Omega Psi Phi-old school. He sent me a book about “the history of Blacks in shaping Washington D.C.” The book is pretty nice.

I have a serious numorous book collection; I have Truman’s biography by David McCullogh(miss-spelled).

One of the books I inherited was –

The National Capital Code of Etiquette, combined with Silas X. Floyd’s Short Stories, Dedicated to the Colored Race by a Edward S. Green, printed in 1920.

Which includes pictures of high society black folk in Washington DC at the turn of the century. If I get my scanner working again I may post a few of these up!

My Mother finished St. Paul in 1940 or 41.

Great! I also have five siblings on my mother’s side to graduate from HBCU’s including myself.

Have you ever heard of the author by the name of Paul Kennedy? I read of his called: Preparing for the 21st century.” The book projected a ton of issues that would affect global powers.

BTW… I see you are a car fanatic. Do you like the 1972 Gran Torina. Also, do you think China will upgrade the gas milage on the Hummer

      Don’t know Kennedy.

Preferred the Chevy Chevelle SS, or the ’72 GTO, or the Rivera (if you could affor dit) to be honest.

By ’72 car makers had pretty much screwed the pooch on muscle cars, making them too big, and too heavy.

The reason they bought the Hummer was for the Chinese Military.

Thanks for another informative web site. Where else could I get that type of information written in such a perfect way? I’ve a project that I’m just now working on, and I’ve been on the look out for such information.
