Inhofe: U.S. headed toward revolution

Senator Inhofe Invades America

The overreaching of the federal government is pushing the U.S. towards a revolution, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) said today.

“People are not buying these concepts that are completely foreign to America,” Inhofe said at a townhall in Chickasaw, Okla. “We’re almost reaching a revolution in this country.”

Inhofe has been one of the Senate’s most strident opponents of climate legislation and healthcare reform.

Inhofe added that he didn’t need to read the full helathcare legislation before deciding to vote against it. Public opinion and news reports, he said, provided all the information he needed.

“I don’t have to read it, or know what’s in it,” Inhofe said. “I’m going to oppose it anyways.”

Sotomayor Confirmed

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor was easily confirmed in a 68-31 vote. Nine Republicans joined a unanimous Democratic caucus in supporting her nomination.

She will be sworn in at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice John Roberts on Saturday. Sotomayor was confirmed after senators spent a final day of debate rehashing the main arguments for and against her.

President Obama, who selected Sotomayor on May 26, said he was “deeply gratified” by the Senate vote.

Republican colleagues have now called her boycott illogical and illegal.

“Every elected representative in this country should feel a responsibility to encourage full participation in the census. To do otherwise is to advocate for a smaller share of federal funding for our constituents,” Reps. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), Lynn Westmoreland (R-Ga.) and John Mica (R-Fla.) said in a statement.

Seems to me he good folks of Minnesota should be mounting a recall petition…

SCGOP Activist Posts Remark Disparaging First Lady

A prominent S.C. Republican Party activist is in hot water after describing an escaped gorilla at a South Carolina zoo as an “ancestor” of First Lady Michelle Obama.

The exchange occurred after Trey Walker, an advisor to S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster, posted an innocuous Facebook update about this morning’s escape of a Western Lowlands Gorilla from Columbia’s Riverbanks Zoo.

Walker’s harmless update, however was followed by a highly-questionable comment from longtime SCGOP activist and former State Senate candidate, Rusty DePass.

“I’m sure it’s just one of Michelle’s ancestors — probably harmless,” DePass wrote.

An early South Carolina supporter of former President George W. Bush, DePass has been active in Republican politics in South Carolina for decades.
