Feminists Ask FCC To Take Out The Limbaugh Garbage

Before Raygun and the Reprobates took over – Radio and TV stations had Civic Duties to support and help improve the communities which they served.

What Fonda et al are asking for here is legal – and should have been enforced a long time ago.

FCC should clear Limbaugh from airwaves

Ironically, the misogyny Rush Limbaugh spewed for three days over Sandra Fluke was not much worse than his regular broadcast of sexist, racist and homophobic hate speech:

–Women cabinet members are “Sex-retaries.”

--“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”

–The National Organization for Women is “a bunch of whores to liberalism.”

–[Said to an African American female caller]: “Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.”

These are just a few samples from the arsenal of degrading language Limbaugh deploys on women, people of color, lesbians and gays, immigrants, the disabled, the elderly, Muslims, Jews, veterans, environmentalists and so forth.

Limbaugh doesn’t just call people names. He promotes language that deliberately dehumanizes his targets. Like the sophisticated propagandist Josef Goebbels, he creates rhetorical frames — and the bigger the lie the more effective — inciting listeners to view people they disagree with as sub-humans. His longtime favorite term for women, “femi-nazi,” doesn’t even raise eyebrows anymore, an example of how rhetoric spreads when unchallenged by coarsened cultural norms.

At least this most recent incident has turned a spotlight back on the vile, damaging statements Limbaugh has been promulgating for years. His sponsors are dropping him; his stations have begun to follow suit. VoteVets, a coalition of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, released a statement by female vets, including Katherine Scheirman, former chief of medical operations in the U.S. Air Forces, demanding that the American Forces Network drop Limbaugh from its programming.

They state, “Our entire military depends on troops respecting each other — women and men. There simply can be no place on military airwaves for sentiments that would undermine that respect.”

That makes this a fitting time to inquire of his syndicator, Clear Channel Communications, whether it intends to continue supporting someone who addicts his audience to regular doses of hate speech. Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Networks Inc., which hosts Limbaugh’s program, has defended his recent comments.

If Clear Channel won’t clean up its airways, then surely it’s time for the public to ask the FCC a basic question: Are the stations carrying Limbaugh’s show in fact using their licenses “in the public interest?” Continue reading

Radioactive Drugbo

Rush Limbaugh has certainly lit the fuse on a bigger keg of dynamite than even he could have envisioned with his comments about Sandra Fluke and the Georgetown women.

Anyone has a question about who has the power in this country just needs to check out Drugbo’s example. It took COlor of Change over a year to make a definitive dent in Glenn Beck’s Faux News racism…

Looks like it is only going to take the ladies about a month to take Drugbo down.

Yeah – Cut off his supply of Viagra!

Rush Limbaugh loses 39 advertisers

At least 39 companies have pulled their ads from the “The Rush Limbaugh Show” since the conservative talk show host called a law student a “slut” on the air last week, as the social media blitz against the popular radio program showed no signs of slowing down Wednesday.

Companies are continuing to join the rapidly growing list of businesses that have ceased advertising on Limbaugh’s show, responding to the flood of grievances that are pouring in from disgruntled customers.

The list of companies that officially announced on Twitter, Facebook or in statements to other media outlets that they would stop advertising on the radio show include: AccuQuote Life Insurance, Allstate Insurance, AOL, Bare Escentuals, Bethesda Sedation Dentistry, Bonobos, Capital One, Carbonite, Cascades Dental, Citrix, Consolidated Credit Counseling Services, Constant Contact, Cunningham Security, Freedom Debt Relief, Girl Scouts, Goodwill Industries, Hadeed Carpet, JCPenney, Legal Zoom, Matrix Direct, Netflix, Norway Savings Bank, Philadelphia Orchestra, PolyCom, Portland Ovations, ProFlowers, Quicken Loans, Regal Assets, Reputation Rhino, RSVP Discount Beverage, Sears, Sensa, Service Magic, Sleep Train, Sleep Number, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Tax Resolution, Thompson Creek Windows and Vitacost.

SS Limbaugh

The SS Limbaugh appears to be going in the same direction as the SS Glenn Beck…

Down.

A Do run..run…run…

I mean – is there a virus going around that affects right wing talking heads and politicians?

On the politico side –  Michelle Bachmann, then Rick Perry, then the King of Beckistan – Herman Cain.

On the talking head side – Glenn Beck, recently followed by the timely demise of Andrew Brietbart, and now Rush Limbaugh.

One has to wonder when they are going to announce Ann Coulter has Prostate cancer.

9 Advertisers Flee Rush Limbaugh; Pro-Gingrich Super Pac Stays

Advertisers are rushing to the exits of Rush Limbaugh’s radio show after customers inundated the Internet with outrage over the conservative commentator’s widely criticized “slut” comments about Sandra Fluke.

Online media giant AOL and tax attorney group Tax Resolution Services announced today that they were pulling their commercials from Limbaugh’s program, bringing the total number of companies withdrawing their ads to nine.

“At AOL one of our core values is that we act with integrity,” the company said Monday on its Facebook page. “We have monitored the unfolding events and have determined that Mr. Limbaugh’s comments are not in line with our values.”

Limbaugh dubbed Georgetown University law school student Sandra Fluke a “slut” and a “prostitute” for testifying before a congressional committee that birth control should be covered under employee health insurance plans.

Limbaugh has been widely criticized by many Democrats and women’s rights groups, but the Republican response has been measurably more muted. The GOP presidential candidates have stopped short of all-out condemning Limbaugh’s statements. And the pro-Newt Gingrich Super Pac Winning Our Future is running a national radio ad during Limbaugh show.

The Super Pac’s spokesman Rick Tyler said the group had no intention of pulling its pro-Gingrich ads from Limbaugh’s show.

Gingrich has steered clear of criticizing Limbaugh, instead re-ocusing the issue on President Obama, whom he says “opportunistically” interjected himself into the issue by calling Fluke on Friday.

Lear Capital, a gold and silver investment firm, and LifeLock, an identity theft protection service, are both sticking with Limbaugh. LifeLock posted Saturday on Facebook that Limbaugh’s comments “in no way reflect the opinions of LifeLock” but did not say it was considering pulling their ads.

Lear Capital posted on its Facebook page that the company was “evaluating our advertising relationship” with Limbaugh and was “very concerned” about Limbaugh’s comments, which it said “blurred” the lines between “free speech and unnecessary personal attacks.”

While Limbaugh apologized for his “choice of words” on Friday, some advertisers are still fleeing his show.

The web-based flower delivery company ProFlowers withdrew its ads on Sunday. Online document company Legal Zoon and document security group Carbonite pulled their ads on Saturday.

The Internet software maker Citrix, mattress companies Sleep Train and Sleep Number and mortgage lender Quicken Loans suspended their advertising on Friday, before Limbaugh’s apology.

All nine former advertisers cited a conflict of values as the reason for dropping their ads.

Texas woman sues PD for forcing her to listen to Rush Limbaugh

Talk about your Monday from hell. Not only did Bridgett Nickerson Boyd’s car break down on her way to work, but when she pulled over to the side of the freeway, a sheriff’s deputy named Mark Goad pulled behind her, wrote her a ticket for driving on the shoulder, decided to arrest her, followed her to the hospital when her suddenly racing heart prompted a call to paramedics, then took her into custody again after she was treated by doctors and finally drove her to jail.

To make matters worse, Boyd claims in a lawsuit that the handcuffs were put on her wrists painfully tight – she claims she explained to the officer she had just had surgery on her hand – and that she was forced to listen to Rush Limbaugh “make derogatory comments about black people” all the way to the jail. Boyd is African-American.

Because of the incident, which occurred on Oct. 4, 2010, Boyd filed a federal lawsuit Monday against Goad and Harris County alleging defamation, false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, assault and battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

”Deputy Goad was aware that Boyd had not committed a crime and her arrest was without probable cause,” according to the lawsuit filed in Houston.

The magistrate who saw her while jailed apparently agreed and dismissed all charges.

A spokesman for Sheriff Adrian Garcia declined to comment on the lawsuit.

Boyd’s attorney, Troy Pradia, said she had never been in legal trouble and thought the deputy had pulled up behind her car to help her. She had moved to the shoulder along Beltway 8 near U.S. 288 after her engine started smoking.

Pradia added that he and Boyd, who works in a bank, had hoped the matter would be settled by the sheriff’s department after she filed a complaint about Goad’s actions.

”They finally said the complaint was not sustained, meaning that it was not disproved but that nothing was proved to have happened,” Pradia said. “I don’t know why. We’re not privy to that.”

Pradia said that Boyd had signed the ticket and pointed as much out to the deputy, but that he chose to arrest her regardless.

”The taxpayers pay money for crime prevention,” Pradia said. “I don’t think she was committing any crime.”

White Sheep in the Obama Family Tree

Not only is President Obama related to Dick Cheney – but his family line has several other disreputable blotches, AKA White Sheep in this case…

Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh!

That kind of stuff would make you swear you were adopted.

BTW… What’s that “once removed” part, again?

Proving once again… If you go back far enough…

You’re related to everybody.

Can Obama really be related to his top conservative foes? You betcha!

Yup _ the president has family ties to none other than Sarah Palin, according to the genealogists atAncestry.com, a discovery the family history site made when looking for connections between political foes.

And that’s not all _ Obama also is apparently related to radio host and relentless critic Rush Limbaugh. Might you want to reconsider some of your recent comments, Mr. Limbaugh, now that you’re apparently family? Continue reading

Drugbo Takes on Oprah!

Limbaugh Takes Racial Swipe at Obama, Oprah

Rush Limbaugh has taken on his most powerful opponent yet. No, not the president: Oprah. Limbaugh went on a reverse-racism rant on his Tuesday show, declaring that both Oprah and President Obama were only successful because they were black. “Somebody asked me over the weekend, why does somebody earn a lot of money? Because she’s black. It was Oprah,” Rush said. “There’s a lot of guilt out there, show we’re not racists, we’ll make this person wealthy and big and famous.”

Likewise, in Limbaugh’s mind, Obama wouldn’t have been elected if not for his race. “If Obama weren’t black, he’d be a tour guide in Honolulu or he’d be teaching Saul Alinsky constitutional law.” You can read the full transcript here.

Some Indeed Call it Treason!

The Times Joe Klein says the “S” word relative to some of the right wing media activity. He isn’t the only person saying that, as this article over at HuffPo by Andrew Reinbach points out:

Meanwhile, the Right-Wing media has been doing everything it can to whip up anger and hatred against government at every level, and the Republican Party has been pandering to the Tea Party movement by steadily moving to the Right, hoping thereby to be able to count on those votes come November.

Some of that whipping up is dangerously close to sedition — incitement to revolt against established government — even if it is cloaked in calls to defend the people’s government from Socialism, and similar fantasies.

The resulting hysteria has intensified since the 2008 election. In that one-year period, the number of Right-Wing militias has mushroomed–according to the Southern Poverty Legal Center, from 42 in 2008, to 127 in 2009.

The issue here is that the Faux News Media personalities have crossed the line from dissent into the realm of Treason and Sedition. As much as I hate the idea of repressing Free Speech, there comes a time to ask some serious questions.

I disagree with Joe Klein only based on the fact that Beck and Limbaugh are on the public airwaves – and as such, when lying or deliberately providing flase information over the public airwaves in an attempt to incite insurrection…

Are committing Sedition. Sarah Palin doesn’t have that publicly provided soap box. What she says in front of a froth mouth group of Tea Bagger idiots speaking before the nimrods…

As such, short of actually calling for and inciting violent acts – is protected.
