MLK III – Still Striving!

Well worth a read. The difference between what MLK stood for and Glenn Beck and the Sno’ Ho’ stand for is simple, and can be seen in current events. King’s vision was for all people, and was inclusive. Beck and Palin are merchants of hate, as evidenced in virtually every word they say. Palin’s defense of Dr. Laura, Becks declaration that President Obama is “anti-white”, the movement’s stand against the “Ground Zero Mosque”, their stand against the Constitutional rights of immigrants, and warping of the very Constitutional principles this country was founded on defines them as the antithesis of King’s Dream.

Still striving for MLK’s dream in the 21st century

This weekend Glenn Beck is to host a “Restoring Honor” rally at the Lincoln Memorial. While it is commendable that this rally will honor the brave men and women of our armed forces, who serve our country with phenomenal dedication, it is clear from the timing and location that the rally’s organizers present this event as also honoring the ideals and contributions of Martin Luther King Jr.

I would like to be clear about what those ideals are.

Vast numbers of Americans know of my father’s leadership in opposing segregation. Yet too many believe that his dream was limited to achieving racial equality. Certainly he sought that objective, but his vision was about more than expanding rights for a single race. He hoped that even in the direst circumstances, we could overcome our differences and replace bitter conflicts with greater understanding, reconciliation and cooperation.

My father championed free speech. He would be the first to say that those participating in Beck’s rally have the right to express their views. But his dream rejected hateful rhetoric and all forms of bigotry or discrimination, whether directed at race, faith, nationality, sexual orientation or political beliefs. He envisioned a world where all people would recognize one another as sisters and brothers in the human family. Throughout his life he advocated compassion for the poor, nonviolence, respect for the dignity of all people and peace for humanity.

Although he was a profoundly religious man, my father did not claim to have an exclusionary “plan” that laid out God’s word for only one group or ideology. He marched side by side with members of every religious faith. Like Abraham Lincoln, my father did not claim that God was on his side; he prayed humbly that he was on God’s side. Continue reading

Guide For Tea Baggers to Avoid Non-Whites In DC

For the Glenn Beck Klan Rally in DC, it is especially important that the Tea Baggers avoid contact with black folks and other minorities while visiting the city. Unfortunately, this threatens to temporarily turn some nice areas of the city into  low rent districts until the unwelcome Tea Baggers can be herded out of town. I have put together this handy map, based on a Tea Baggers “travel guide” and a few hints from an area native,  so the visitors can be aware of the dangers they may face. The “Anti-Christ” area includes the Mormon Temple and an area traditionally with a higher Jewish population. We can’t have any Tea Baggers running into anyone with an IQ above room temperature!

Safe Areas for Tea Baggers!

The ethnic makeup of the DC Metro Area is substantially different from Tea Bagger home towns – in 2006

As such, it is not entirely possible to avoid non-white people! Even in Fairfax and Loudon Counties, two of the wealthiest counties in the nation, the non-white population tends to hover around 20%! And no – there ain’t no Motel 6 in McLean.

Advice handed out to Tea Baggers by a local Tea Bagger includes -

Safety and Mores

DC’s population includes refugees from every country, as the families of embassy staffs of third world countries tend to stay in DC whenever a revolution in their homeland means that anyone in their family would be in danger if they went back. Most taxi drivers and many waiters/waitresses (especially in local coffee shops like the Bread and Chocolate chain) are immigrants, frequently from east Africa or Arab countries. As a rule, African immigrants do not like for you to assume they are African Americans and especially do not like for you to guess they are from a neighboring country (e.g. Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia) with whom they may have political or military tensions. It’s rare to meet anyone who gets really offended, but you can still be aware of the issue.

Many parts of DC are safe beyond the areas I will list here, but why chance it if you don’t know where you are?

If you are on the subway stay on the Red line between Union Station and Shady Grove, Maryland. If you are on the Blue or Orange line do not go past Eastern Market (Capitol Hill) toward the Potomac Avenue stop and beyond; stay in NW DC and points in Virginia. Do not use the Green line or the Yellow line. These rules are even more important at night. There is of course nothing wrong with many other areas; but you don’t know where you are, so you should not explore them.

If on foot or in a cab or bus, stay in Bethesda, Arlington (preferably north Arlington), Crystal City, Falls Church, Annandale, or Alexandria, or in DC only in northwest DC west (i.e. larger street numbers) of 14th or 16th streets, or if on Capitol Hill only in SE Capitol Hill (zip 20003) between 1st and 8th Streets, not farther out than 8th (e.g. 9th, 10th etc). (Or stay on the Mall and at the various monuments.) Again there are many other lovely places, from the Catholic University of America to Silver Spring, Maryland. But you don’t know where you are so you cannot go, especially at night, unless you take me with you.

Rejecting the Hate on the 28th

Ed hosts Al Sharpton to discuss the March to reject Beck’s KKK Rally on the Mall on the 28th of August, the anniversary of the MLK “I Have a Dream” Speech.

If you can – be there in the spirit of King and the Freedom Riders.

Now in case you missed it, or have been living in right wing hate land where the local provider doesn’t carry anything except Faux News…

Ground Zero at the Lincoln Memorial

I seriously hope the counter protesters come a million strong…

I’ll be there, if for no other reason than to deliver a 1 finger salute to these racist assholes.

I was there in 1963 as a kid when my parents took me to join Martin Luther King on the Mall.

Tea Bagger Wants to Start Internment Camps For Immigrants

Wow… Just when you though the Tea Bagger set couldn’t get any dumber!

What this woman is referring to is the “Internment Camps” during WWII which locked up American Citizens of Japanese Ancestry…

One of the darker moments of American History.

GOP candidate calls for internment camps for ‘people that snuck into the country.’

Speaking at a rally sponsored by Glenn Beck’s 9/12 Project, GOP state house candidate in Florida, Marg Baker, endorsed building concentration camps for undocumented immigrants:

We can follow what happened back in the 40s or 50s. I was just a little girl in Miami, and they built camps for the people that snuck into the country, because they were illegal. They put them in the camps, and they shipped them back. We can do that.

Beginning to believe that maybe we need to build Asylums again…

The Specter of Billy-Bob Crow And the Right’s Fright!

As pointed out in the previous post, the conservative right has adopted a tactic last seen utilized by white supremacist groups. That the white folks in this country are persecuted. Now the white supremacist variant of this was that white people were prevented from 1) getting a job, 2) going to college, or 3) wining a business contract because of 1) Civil Rights, or 2) Affirmative Action, or 3) the dumbing down of one or more institutions to make room for women, or minorities…

Damn the reality, damn the statistics – white folks is under attack, Ya’ll!

Not surprisingly in a political movement which perpetually and psychotically sees America under attack from everything from socialist peanuts to communist kumquats, fear is manufactured nightly by the avatars of white despondency with pepper fueled tears  and a “News” organization in Faux whose carnal knowledge of the news is best compared to that of the boy’s lurid adventures told over beer to his peers…

While carrying the same rubber in his wallet he acquired in a pique of dare fueled courage in High School…

Through college.

That is, that if the news were sex, Faux’s association with it would make the Virgin Mary look like a Harlot.

Black Power’s Gonna Get You Sucka: Right-Wing Paranoia and the Rhetoric of Modern Racism

Prominent white conservatives are angry about racism.

Forget all that talk about a post-racial society. They know better than to believe in such a thing, and they’re hopping mad.

What is it that woke them up finally, after all these years of denial, during which they insisted that racism was a thing of the past?

Was it the research indicating that job applicants with white sounding names have a 50 percent better chance of being called back for an interview than their counterparts with black-sounding names, even when all qualifications are the same?

Taking Aim At Tea Bagger Racism

b

There is a full frontal attack on black Americans by the Glenn Beck Tea Bagger right. Been a while coming, but it looks like forces are aligning to step up and call what is going on for what it is.

NAACP considers resolution decrying racist elements in tea-party movement

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will propose a resolution this week condemning racism within the tea party movement.

The resolution, scheduled for a vote as early as Tuesday by delegates attending the annual NAACP convention in Kansas City, calls upon “all people of good will to repudiate the racism of the Tea Parties, and to stand in opposition to its drive to push our country back to the pre-civil rights era.”

NAACP leaders said the resolution was necessary to make people aware of what they believe is a racist element within the tea party movement.

“I think a lot of people are not taking the tea party movement seriously, and we need to take it seriously,” said Anita Russell, head of the Kansas City chapter of the NAACP. “We need to realize it’s really not about limited government.”

Russell said she was “pretty certain” the resolution would pass.

Tea party leaders deny that the movement is racist and said the resolution is unfair.

“I just don’t see racism in the tea party movement,” said Brendan Steinhauser, director of campaigns for FreedomWorks, which organizes tea party groups. “Racism is something we’re absolutely opposed to.”

“The NAACP has more of a political agenda now, but I would hope that they would appreciate the fact that the tea party movement has a lot in common with the civil rights movement. I’m personally inspired by what the civil rights movement did, and I want them to know that.” Continue reading

The War in Washington – Glenn Becks MLK Day Facade

Hasn’t been this much racim walking the streets of DC since the KKK March of Aug 18, 1925. Think Beck ought to move his date up 10 days to coincide with something similar to his views -

The first Tea Baggers - Aug 18, 1925 KKK March on Washington

Beck ‘Hijacks’ MLK Anniversary for Tea Party Rally

With his critically maligned new thriller—accused by some of being a playbook for armed insurrection—perched happily at the top of the New York Times bestseller list, Glenn Beck is on to new provocations. His plans for a massive “take our country back” Tea Party rally at the Lincoln Memorial on Aug. 28, the 47th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, have caused great umbrage among King loyalists, stunned that the Parks Dept. would give the Fox host a permit for that day.

It’s not the first instance of Beck Kingsploitation, Devona Walker reports on Alternet, but usually he’s just used King’s words to promote and protect himself. “Now, he is actually hijacking King’s legacy for purposes that run counter to everything King stood for. This—even more than calling President Obama a racist—seems to be the most vindictive and spiteful move yet.” Liberal radio host Bill Press, too, pulled out all the stops, saying, “If you ask me, that’s like granting al-Qaeda permission to hold a rally on September 11—at Ground Zero. What the hell were those bureaucrats at the Park Service thinking?”

Glenn Beck Goes ‘Over the Line’ by Mocking Malia – He mimics her question on his radio show today

Glenn Beck Goes ‘Over the Line’ by Mocking Malia – He mimics her question on his radio show today.

Glenn Beck spent a good amount of time on his radio show today mimicking and mocking Malia Obama over her “Daddy, did you plug the hole yet” question, reports Media Matters. (President Obama relayed her question to the public yesterday during his Gulf press conference.) At one point, Beck uses his Malia voice to ask, “Why do you hate black people so much,” and at another he says, “That’s the level of their education, that they’re coming to—they’re coming to daddy and saying, ‘Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?’” Way out of bounds, writes Jon Bershad at Mediaite. (The site also has the audio clip.) Obama may well deserve a ribbing over his performance, but not his 11-year-old daughter. Beck “clearly stepped over the line when he began insulting and denigrating” Malia. “Considering how gung ho Beck’s been recently about protecting politicians’ home life, you’d think he’d know better.”

Typical for the right-wing -

Glenn Beck Apologizes for Mocking Malia

That was quick. Hours after a clip of Glenn Beck mimicking and mocking Malia Obama became a hot topic, he apologized on his website. “In discussing how President Obama uses children to shield himself from criticism, I broke my own rule about leaving kids out of political debates,” he wrote. “The children of public figures should be left on the sidelines. It was a stupid mistake and I apologize–and as a dad I should have known better.” Beck began taking flak for the segment—it was on his radio show, where he tends to go further than on TV—which played off her “Daddy, did you plug the hole yet?” question. The audio clip from Mediaite is in the gallery.

Another Tea Bagger Domestic Terrorist

At some point the government needs to start prosecuting the people who are egging on and giving this sort of hate and threats legitimacy. Perhaps it is time to start taking a hard look at Mr Beck as a criminal accomplice…

US Senator Patty Murray of Washington

Washington Man Charged with Threatening to Kill Sen. Patty Murray

A Washington state man was charged Tuesday with threatening to kill Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) because of her “yes” vote on health care reform legislation.

Prosecutors said Charles Alan Wilson, 64, left more than a dozen threatening messages at Murray’s office after the measure passed the Senate March 21, The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.

“I want to …. kill you,” Wilson said in one message, according to court documents.

“Kill the …. senator! Hang the …. senator! I hope somebody puts a …. bullet between your …. eyes,” he said in another call.

His arrest came after an FBI agent called the suspect, posing as a representative from a group trying to get health care reform repealed. Wilson agreed to have that call recorded and agents compared it to the messages left for Murray.

He allegedly told the undercover agents that he regularly carries a gun and that he had a concealed weapons permit, Politico reported.

Wilson was charged with threatening a federal official. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined as much as $250,000.

Tea Party Express… Self-Demolition in Texas

First the Tea Baggers paid $100.000 to listen to some inane drivel by the Sno’ Ho’, who basically self-destructed by using her Hillbilly Palm Pilot…

Debra Medina, the Tea Party candidate for the Republican nomination to run for Governor of Texas (the Texas Gun Ho’?) blew her candidacy up this morning on the uber friendly Glenn Beck Show.

Tea Party Candidate - Texas Gun Ho', Debra Medina

Debra Medina self-destructs on Glenn Beck radio show

This candidacy will self-destruct in five seconds…

Texas Republican gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina imploded on the Glenn Beck radio program this morning when she said she didn’t have an opinion on whether the US government was behind the 9/11 attacks.

Medina, who has literally come out of nowhere to quickly become a legitimate candidate in the Republican primary, first laughed when Beck said he had received emails from listeners saying she was a “9/11 truther.”

“That’s the first time I’ve heard of that accusation,” she said, not exactly denying the charge.

Government conspiracy?

So Beck asked her straight up: “Do you believe the government was in any way involved in the bringing down of the World Trade Centers on 9/11?”

Easy answer, right? Nope.

“I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard,” Medina replied. “There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that.”

That answer caused a stir in the studio. Beck quickly followed up by asking her if she would disavow any of her staff if they were “9/11 truthers.”

“Well, you know, that’s a federal issue. We’re very focused on issues in Texas, on Texas state government,” she said. “I’m certainly not into mind control or thought policing people. “We’ve got a very diverse team in this state and that’s because Texans are standing shoulder to shoulder to support and defend the Constitution. I frankly don’t have time, you know, to go through and do psychological testing on people and know every thought or detail that they have.”

Buh-bye

After that, Beck politely thanked Medina for appearing on his program and dismissed her future political hopes.

“I think I can write her off the list,” he said. “Let me take another look at [candidate] Kay Bailey Hutchison, if I have to.”

“Rick, I think you and I could French kiss right now,” he said of Texas’s current governor, Rick Perry who is running for re-election.

“Wow,” Beck continued. “Wow. The fastest way back to four percent,” he said of Medina’s one-time standing in the polls. A recent survey showed her only four points behind Hutchison with 24 percent of the vote.
