Should Pat Buchanan Be On MSNBC?

Buchanan's Ideas on Who Built America Go Back to the "Social Darwinism" of the Early 20th Century.

Although MSNBC is a Progressive/Liberal outlet, they employ several conservative commentators. Most recently the network picked up Michael Steele, former RNC Chair. One of their long term conservative talking heads has been Pat Buchanan. That Buchanan comes out of the bigoted, white-right arm of conservatism really never has been an issue.

So I don’t think anyone is surprised at the white supremacist sections of Buchanan’s new book. I mean, MSNBC hired Buchanan to represent the racist side of conservatism, and to provide a world view commentary from that Republican interest group.

So I don’t get the outrage at MSNBC, when he house conservative bigot…

Writes a book including bigoted statements.

I mean Pat Buchanan is what he is. And the point isn’t his racism – the point is how that racism defines the conservative worldview.

Fire Buchanan? I can’t see it.

Color Of Change Urges MSNBC To Fire Pat Buchanan

African American political advocacy group Color Of Change has called for MSNBC to fire longtime analyst (and even longer-time lightning rod) Pat Buchanan for what it called his “white supremacist ideology.”

The advocacy group sent petition letters to its members on Tuesday. The letter said that MSNBC gives Buchanan a platform to pass off his often loaded remarks as “legitimate mainstream political commentary.”

While Color of Change cited comments made by Buchanan from as early as March 2008, the advocacy group highlighted Buchanan’s new book “Suicide Of A Superpower” and a Saturday appearance on the controversial radio show “The Political Cesspool” (whose host has described his ideology as “pro-white”) as current reasons the network should fire Buchanan.

“Buchanan has just published a book which says that increasing racial diversity is a threat to this country and will mean the ‘End of White America.’ This weekend, to promote his book, he went on a white supremacist radio show…” read the “Fire Pat Buchanan” petition letter.

Buchanan also appeared on NPR’s “The Diane Rehm Show” on Tuesday and further discussed his new book and radio show appearance on “Political Cesspool.”

He defended his decision to visit the radio show and asked “Am I supposed to go and vet all the people on these shows and get the list from [Anti-Defamation League chief] Abe Foxman on what shows I can go on to?”

He added, “The individual was very interested in the race issue…but I wouldn’t be on the program if somebody started calling racial or ethnic names. Or rather, I’d be on it, but I’d say that’s the last time we’re going on that one.”

Buchanan also told Rehm that “the argument that diversity is a strength is a canard. It is nonsense.”

Buchanan’s new book takes on the racial makeup of the U.S. and has a chapter entitled “The End of White America.” Pat Buchanan appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News show and responded to then-speculative controversy surrounding this particular chapter. Buchanan said he was “not against minorities.”

Buchanan has made headlines for other remarks in the past few months. He recently said that African Americans were living on a liberal plantation. He also referred to President Obama as “your boy” during an interview with Al Sharpton (though he strongly disputed that there were any racial overtones to those comments).

No Faux! Glenn Beck Leaving Faux News

Looks like it all has caught up with Beck…

First he lost New York, then Philly – and now his nightly psychobabble on Faux News!

Could it just possibly be the loss of advertisers on Faux caused by the Color of Change Boycott?

Glenn Beck to End Daily Fox News Program

Glenn Beck will end his daily Fox News Channel program later this year.

His departure was jointly announced in a statement on Wednesday by Fox and Mr. Beck’s company, Mercury Radio Arts.

Fox News and Mercury Radio Arts, which have clashed over the making of “Glenn Beck,” will “work together to develop and produce a variety of television projects for air on the Fox News Channel as well as content for other platforms including Fox News’ digital properties,” the companies said in the statement.

As expected, a senior Fox News executive, Joel Cheatwood, will join Mr. Beck at Mercury Radio Arts starting later this month.

The joint statement did not specify an end date for Mr. Beck’s show, called “Glenn Beck,” which has been telecast at 5 p.m. on Fox News since early 2009. Asked if Fox News had a rough end date for “Glenn Beck,” a spokeswoman referred back to the statement. Mr. Beck’s contract with Fox ends in December.

Apple Boycotts Faux News Entirely

Apple Boycotts Fox News

According to Color of Change’s James Rucker, Fox News Channel is struggling to fill advertising slots on Beck’s show as evidenced by the surge in house ads for Fox News and gold coins. But a more important result of Color of Change’s campaign against Beck may be the fact that some companies have pulled ads from Fox News entirely, including Apple.

More Tears for Beck

BeckCrying’19 more advertisers ditch Glenn Beck

Hat Tip and a Salute to Jack and Jill for leading this along with Color of Change!

Great news today in our campaign against Glenn Beck. We’re announcing that nineteen more of Beck’s advertisers have stopped supporting his show. That number includes two British companies who just announced that they’ve pulled their ads from the UK broadcast of Beck’s show after hearing from customers.

Two companies–Waitrose (the British supermarket chain) and Metropolitan Talent Management–pulled their ads not only from Beck’s show, but from Fox News in general.

Over 280,000 of us have now called on advertisers to stop supporting Beck’s show. We are keeping Beck isolated and making sure that he continues to be a financial liability for Fox. Eventually, Fox will have to explain why they are continuing to give Beck’s race-baiting and fear-mongering a platform even as it hurts their bottom line.

Here’s the full list of new companies ditching Beck: AmMed Direct, Citrix Online, Concord Music Group, Diageo, Eggland’s Best, Equifax, Eulactol USA (producer of Flexitol), GetARoom.com, Hoffman La Roche (maker of BONIVA), Metropolitan Talent Management, ooVoo, Overture Films, Scarguard, Schiff Nutrition (maker of Tiger’s Milk and Fi-Bar), Seoul Metropolitan Government, Subaru, Toyota-Lexus, Waitrose and Woodland Power Products, Inc.

A little music for Glenn…

Glenn Beck ‘Fesses Up – “I’m a Dirtbag”

Glenn Beck ‘fesses-up to being a “Dirtbag”, as well as having been financially hurt by the Boycott.

The funniest accusation is that it is the great mysterious “Powers that be” that are putting the hurt on him – when in actuality it is hundreds of thousands of consumers who have tired of his racist and anti-American rants.

Beck admits to being a recovering alcoholic. And if that is true, I can wish him nothing but success in his continued recovery. However, if this guys stopped drinking…

Why does he still act like he’s suffering the effects of the DT’s?

Glenn Beck Counter Attacks!

If you have been checking in here, or over at more leading sites such as  Jack and Jill and Color of Change who are leading the charge for responsible journalism over the nation’s airwaves – then you know about the Glenn Back Boycott.

So far, over 36 Advertisers have asked for their ads to be removed from Faux New’s Glenn Beck Show, or removed their advertisements entirely from Faux, in a response to incendiary comments made over the public airwaves by Beck threatening President Obama.

Resulting in Glenn Beck “taking a vacation”.

Seeking traction against his “Enemies”, Beck and a number of his defenders on the right searched for a “Reverend Wright” to tar and caricature as something (ANYTHING!) which might be portrayed as a “Giant Negro” …

Leading to their attack on Van Jones, who co-founded Color of Change and now is one of the President’s “Czars”. Here is yet another “Thrilla in Vanilla” -

Unfortunately for the Beck supporters, the facts get in the way of a really good right wing rant session (although that’s never bothered them in the past)…

First – Van Jones’ affiliation with Color of Change ended in 2005, four years ago, whereas the Boycott of Beck started only about a month ago. Continue reading

Color of Change – 20 Advertisers Drop Beck

This one is shaping up to the ass whuppin’ of the year!

Coming Down Around His Shoulders

Coming Down Around His Shoulders

As to today, Color of Change announced that 20 advertisers have pulled their advertisements, or specified that their advertisements not be shown during the Glenn Beck show on Faux News.

ColorofChange.org announced today that the nation’s largest retailer Wal-Mart has pulled its ads from Glenn Beck’s Fox News program. Seven other companies joined the retail giant, including Best Buy and CVS have stopped advertising on Beck’s program. This now means that 20 advertisers have left Glenn Beck since he called Obama a racist.

Allergan (maker of Restasis), Ally Bank (a unit of GMAC Financial Services), Best Buy, Broadview Security, CVS, Re-Bath, Travelocity and Wal-Mart all announced that they will no longer advertise on Beck’s show.

When you look at the list of all 20 companies that have left Beck, there are many household names there. ConAgra, GEICO, Lawyers.com, Men’s Wearhouse, Procter & Gamble, Progressive Insurance, RadioShack, Roche, SC Johnson, Sanofi-Aventis, Sargento, and State Farm Insurance have all previously dropped Beck.

GEICO just saved a bunch of money by not advertising on Fox

The boycott against companies sponsoring political hate speech is gaining traction.

Color of Change, Jack and Jill Turn Up the Heat On Racist Commentator

This from Jack and Jill, which is cross posted at Firedoglake, Huffington Post, and DailyKos. This was authored by James Rucker -

(Just in case you forgot)

Last week, after Glenn Beck called President Obama a “racist” who has a “deep-seated hatred for white people,” we asked ColorOfChange members to call on Beck’s advertisers to pull their funding from his show. More than 50,000 people have already joined the call, and today we have great news to report — advertisers are starting to listen:

Three companies who run ads during Glenn Beck — NexisLexis-owned Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance — today distanced themselves from Beck. LexisNexis has pulled its advertising from Beck and says it has no plans to advertise on the program in the future. Both Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance called the Beck advertising placements an error that they would correct.

Since we released our statement announcing the news this morning, another company, S.C. Johnson (Pledge, Ziplock, Off!) told us that it was a mistake for their ads to be running on Beck’s show, and that they’d make sure it wouldn’t happen again in the future. (UPDATE: Our contact at S.C. Johnson wanted us to clarify that they have had no knowledge of their ad running on the Glenn Beck show (they wanted to verify this for themselves), and if it did happen, it was not something they requested.)

This is great progress, and it shows how effective it can be when thousands of people tell advertisers not to support this kind of hateful rhetoric. Now we need to step up the pressure on Beck’s other advertisers. While Lawyers.com, Procter & Gamble and Progressive Insurance were quick to respond, many others have avoided answering us, or refused to budge. We’re currently in conversations with advertisers, and the more people they see joining this campaign, the more reason they’ll have to listen.

If you haven’t done so already, please sign our petition to Beck’s advertisers, and ask your friends and family to do the same. Moving forward, we’ll keep you informed about effective ways you can pressure the advertisers to withdraw their support from Beck’s show.

If you can stomach it, here’s a half hour video of sickening race-baiting from Glenn Beck, put together by Media Matters…

For the rest of this article, please check out Jack and Jill. Also, if you, like I – are sick and tired of the racist conservative cretins spewing hate all over our airwaves…

Sign the petition – and help make a change.
