German Robbers Blew Up the Bank... And Left the Cash Machine Intact

German bank ‘blown up by robbers in botched raid’

Suspected robbers in Germany appear to have miscalculated the quantity of explosives needed to blow their way into a rural bank.

The building housing the bank in the northern village of Malliss was largely destroyed by an overnight explosion.

The bank’s cash machine survived intact and the suspected thieves are not thought to have made away with any money, Germany’s Welt Online reported.

No-one was injured, though the blast damaged nearby cars and buildings.

Investigators were working on the assumption that robbers had placed their explosives, possibly made from petrol or acetylene, at the entrance to the bank, German broadcaster NDR said.

The presence of a delivery van near the site of the explosion indicated that the suspected thieves may have intended to drive off with the cash dispenser, local media reported.

Man Wrongly Convicted Freed After 35 Years

James Bain has a remarkable attitude after being wrongly convicted and imprisoned for 35 years in Florida.

On December 17, 2009, James Bain was freed from prison after postconviction DNA testing proved his innocence of a 1974 rape and kidnapping. At the time of his release, Bain’s 35 years spent in prison was the longest time served by any of the DNA exonerees nationwide.

The Crime

Late on the night of March 4, 1974, the victim was taken from his bedroom through a window to a nearby field and raped by an unknown male. When the victim returned home, he was wearing only a white t-shirt and jockey underwear. The police collected his underwear and sent it to the FBI for serological testing.

Not Just Black Folks – Republican Status With Hispanics Drops to Record Lows

Statistically, since Raygun 89-92% of black folks have voted Democrat.

It now appears, since “Arizona”, Hispanic voting patterns may mirror that of black folks.

NBC/MSNBC/Telemundo poll on immigration…

• 68% of Latinos approve of Obama’s job (compared with 48% of overall respondents and 38% of whites)
• They view the Democratic Party favorably by a 54%-21% score (versus 41%-40% among all adults and 34%-48% among whites).
• GOP fav/unfav among Latinos is 22%-44%.
• Latinos think Democrats would do a better job than Republicans in protecting the interests of minorities (by 58%-11%),
• Latinos think Democrats would do a better job than Republicans in representing the opportunity to move up the economic ladder (46%-20%),
• Latinos think Democrats would do a better job than Republicans in dealing with immigration (37%-12%), and
• Latinos think Democrats would do a better job than Republicans in promoting strong moral values (33%-23%).
• The only advantage they gave Republicans was in enforcing security along the border (31%-20%).

*** Dropping like a rock: It didn’t use to be this way. In 2004, George W. Bush, the former governor of Texas, won some 40% of the Latino vote. But in 2006, that percentage for Republicans dropped to 30%, and it was 31% in ’08. And check out these party identification averages among Latinos that our Hart (D)/McInturff (R) pollsters put together from our past NBC/WSJ polls; this chart puts together the YEARLY average of all Hispanics surveyed for each year (approximately 900 respondents are included in each yearly sample):

– In 2004, Dems held a 22-point edge in party identification among Latinos (49%-27%)
– In 2005, it was 24 points (48%-24%)
– In 2006, it was 26 points (50%-22%)
– In 2007, it was 30 points (52%-22%)
– In 2008, it was 35 points (57%-22%)
– In 2009, it was 31 points (50%-19%)
– And so far in 2010, it has been 36 points (58%-22%).

According to Public Policy Polling, this is beginning to have a serious impact on several races in Western States -

When we polled Colorado in early March Michael Bennet and Jane Norton were tied. Last week we found Bennet with a 3 point lead. One of the biggest reasons for that shift? Bennet went from leading Norton by 12 points with Hispanic voters to a 21 point advantage. That large shift in a Democratic direction among Hispanics mirrors what we saw in our Arizona Senate polling last month- Rodney Glassman went from trailing John McCain by 17 points with them in September to now holding a 17 point lead.

A mobile phone company has suspended the number 0888 888 888 – after every single person assigned to it died in the last 10 years.

he first owner Vladimir Grashnov – the former CEO of Bulgarian mobile phone company Mobitel which issued the number – died of cancer in 2001 aged just 48.

The number then passed to Bulgarian mafia boss, Konstantin Dimitrov, who was gunned down in 2003 by a lone assassin in the Netherlands during a trip to inspect his £500 million drug smuggling empire.

Dimitrov, who died aged 31, had the mobile with him when he was shot while eating out with a model.

Russian mafia bosses – jealous of his drug smuggling operation – were said to have been behind the killing.

The phone number then passed to Konstantin Dishliev, a crooked businessman, who was gunned down outside an Indian restaurant in Bulgaria’s capital Sofia after taking over the jinxed line.

Dishliev, an estate agent, had secretly been running a massive cocaine trafficking operation before his assassination in 2005.

He died after £130 million of the drug was intercepted by police on its way into the country from Colombia.

Since then, the number is understood to have been dormant while police maintained an open file on Dishliev’s killing and his smuggling ring.

Now phone bosses are said to have suspended the number for good. Callers now get a recorded message saying the phone is “outside network coverage.”

A Mobitel spokesman would only say: “We have no comment to make. We won’t discuss individual numbers.”

It is the root of some of the most brutal conflicts in our history, and is often used to justify genocide. While Islamic Fundamentalism gets most of the press attention due to terrorist atrocities committed under it’s tutelage – Hindu and Christian fundamentalists aren’t far behind.

In India, Village Councils enforce local religious laws. Not surprisingly, the councils are almost always made up of men, and the most severe punishments are almost always meted out to women. Honor killings are also a feature of Islamic fundamentalism.

Historically, whether a man murders his wife by dousing her in gasoline and setting her afire, or the Village Council murdered teenage girls refusing arraigned marriages by burying them alive hasn’t met with criminal punishment from the courts…

Wayne County Judge David Groner sentenced him to one-and-half to five years.

Kilpatrick was escorted out of the courtroom in handcuffs and will be transported to Jackson where he will be processed and soon learn which prison will become his new home.

Before the sentencing, Groner spent more than twenty minutes discussing what led them to this court hearing in the first place.

Republican leaders have declared open war on Tim D’Annunzio, a Tea Party-backed North Carolina congressional candidate who they fear may be insane. They’re publicizing documents from D’Annunzio’s divorce, in which his wife testifies that he called himself the messiah, predicted god would drop a 1,000-mile high pyramid on Greenland, and claimed to have found the Ark of the Covenant in Arizona. A doctor also revealed that he smokes pot almost every day, reports the AP

Years later, a judge ruled that he had willfully skipped child support payments, adding that he’d described himself as a “religious zealot” who considered the government the “Antichrist.” The chairman of the North Carolina GOP says D’Annunzio “has disqualified himself by his background, his record and his behavior.” But he might actually win; he got more votes initial primary voting than anyone else, and has plenty of cash for his runoff with local sportscaster Harold Johnson.

Governor Deval Patrick, even as he decried partisanship in Washington, said today that Republican opposition to President Obama’s agenda has become so obstinate that it “is almost at the level of sedition.”

The Democratic governor, who is close to the president, made the comments at a forum at Suffolk Law School’s Rappaport Center, where he was asked by an audience member about partisan battling in Congress.

Patrick said that even “on my worst day, when I’m most frustrated about folks who seem to rooting for failure,” he doesn’t face anything like the opposition faced by the president.

“It seems like child’s play compared to what is going on in Washington, where it is almost at the level of sedition, it feels to like me,” Patrick said.

Merriam-Webster.com, the dictionary site, defines sedition as “incitement of resistance to or insurrection against lawful authority.”

Security forces fought their way into the warren-like complex that is the slum stronghold of a Jamaican gang leader facing extradition to the United States, and sporadic gunfire could be heard late into Monday night. More than 1,000 police officers and soldiers attacked heavily armed gang members defending the western Kingston base of the gang leader, Christopher Coke, who has been indicted in the United States on drug and arms trafficking charges. The number of casualties was unclear. The authorities said two officers had been killed and at least six wounded since Sunday, and at least one Jamaican soldier was shot dead during Monday’s fighting.

This claim against me is categorically and totally false,” Haley, a 38-year-old mother of two, said in a statement. “It is quite simply South Carolina politics at its worst.” Folks is a political consultant who now runs FITSNews.com, a conservative site that features occasionally insightful commentary, thinly sourced stories of state political intrigue, and photos of women in bikinis.
