This from Chris Matthews discussing the recent defection of a Democrat Congressman to the Republican Party -
“Are you building the right kind of Republican Party, or are you building a party off of the discards of the Democrats, are you gonna keep building your party with dixiecrats, ex-Democrats who think the Democratic Party is too mainstream, that’s how you’ve been doing it since the 60s, since the 60s, you’ve built a political party, the Party of Lincoln has become the party of the confederacy.”
Chris hit that one…
Right out of the park.

Complete transcript is available over at HuffPo in an article by Ryan -
Q: That’s interesting you talk about the disparities in African Americans, because many civil rights leaders, to include persons in the NAACP, are upset that the Senate version does not have the public option; the House has the public option. And the Senate and the House version are very far apart. What are the fears that you have going forward with trying to get a health care reform bill together in a timely fashion?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, first of all, I think it’s important to understand, April, that the Senate and the House bills are 95 percent identical. There’s 5 percent differences, and one of those differences is the public option. But this is an area that has just become symbolic of a lot of ideological fights. As a practical matter, this is not the most important aspect to this bill — the House bill or the Senate bill. (more…)

Hat tip EUR!
As reported earlier today in EUR, Tom Joyner interviewed President Barack Obama this morning on his Tom Joyner Morning Show. You can listen here or read the full transcript from EUR here.
A bit of the Interview …
Joyner / President Obama:
Well, this is going to be a tough Christmas for a lot of Americans.
Yeah.
Especially African-Americans. So we’re going to have to really dig deep to celebrate, and we can only do that by remembering the true meaning of what Christmas is all about this year, a lot of us.
Well, listen, we’ve just gone through the toughest year we’ve had at least since 1981 and maybe since 1933. So there are a lot of folks hurting out there.
What do you have to say to the struggling people this Christmas? (more…)

Don’t know if any of my regulars have caught this guy, but Elon James White is a comedian out of New York who has created a YouTube series called This Week In Blackness. He is totally irreverent, and off the wall, sometimes offensive, and often funny – and sometimes makes his point. I’ve been following him for a while…
This, I think is his best effort so far.
Warning – Strong Language. Skip this one if easily offended.
He can be reached on Twitter at www.twitter.com/elonjames or visit him online at ElonJamesIsNotWhite.com and ThisWeekinBlackness.com.

Here’s another fun one. A video released by two (I would assume former) HP employees about their new computer’s shortcomings in facial recognition software.
HP responded on its blog.
“We are working with our partners to learn more,” HP said. “The technology we use is built on standard algorithms that measure the difference in intensity of contrast between the eyes and the upper cheek and nose. We believe that the camera might have difficulty ‘seeing’ contrast in conditions where there is insufficient foreground lighting.”
“Everything we do is focused on ensuring that we provide a high-quality experience for all our customers, who are ethnically diverse and live and work around the world,” HP continued. “That’s why when issues surface, we take them seriously and work hard to understand the root causes.”
The issue is technical, and has to do with lighting and the quality of the camera. They probably should upgrade the camera a bit, and give users some instruction on lighting.
Seems if these folks were employees – they could have found a better way to point that out to the Design Staff than posting it up on YouTube.

This one popped up on Youtube yesterday, and I think it is a bit off the wall -
This appears to be an Australian commercial for KFC. The white couple appears to be at a cricket of soccer match, sitting on the opposing teams side. Which I have to figure is probably safer than getting seated on the wrong side of the opposing stadium in some NFL stadiums in America. The premise is that sharing a bucket of KFC bridges the cultural and competitive divide the world over. The other fans happen to be black.
The folks who posted this on YouTube feel that it is racist (black folks and chicken) – not realizing the racial meme has no meaning outside of the US.
Beating up KFC on this one – is a bit off the wall.
Now this isn’t to say that racism isn’t prevalent in Australia, and the commercial doesn’t play to white Australian fears of being overwhelmed by non-whites…

This one is up there with pointing a gun at you own head and pulling the trigger…
To see if it is loaded.
Police said Hector Quinones, 44, shot and killed Carlos Rodriguez Sr., 52, and his 24-year-old son, Carlos Rodriguez Jr., then stabbed to death the younger Rodriguez’s grandfather, Fernando Gonzalez, 87, according to reports in the Daily News and the New York Post.
Police said the attack apparently stemmed from botched drug ripoff.
The elder Rodriguez’s wife, Gisela Rodriguez, 49, and her daughter, Leyanis, 28, walked in on the carnage. Quinones heard keys in the lock and opened the door for the women, police said.
He shot the mother, who was grazed on the head by a bullet but managed to run from the apartment. The killer was just about the grab the daughter when his low-slung pants fell down and he tripped, the Post said. That gave the young woman the chance to run into a back room, where she found the bodies of her brother and father.
Quinones yanked up his pants and scrambled after Leyanis Rodriguez, who climbed onto a fire escape, screaming for help to construction workers on the roof of a nearby building, the Post said. The attacker followed her onto the fire escape, but once again his drooping pants fell and he tripped, plunging three stories to his death.
Estella Carrino, who manages a street-level bicycle store in the building, said she heard the body hit the ground.
“He had no jacket on and his pants were down. He was very dead,” she told the Daily News.

Just spent the day with a snowblower clearing the driveway. We got 20″ of snow yesterday – so the side streets are impassible. Fortunately I live in the first house on the street, so I was able to plow out to the next cleared street.
Anyway – this was the view out my front door this evening (the house faces west) -
